He couldnât deny how much Rory had been on his mind lately. Theyâd always been close - she was one of the few to stand by him even when he had a kid in high school. Of course, she was far out of his league, and always had been. Not that he was thinking of her in that way⊠right? All potential of overthinking vanished as she turned around.
His smile widened as she played into his charade. âI couldnât stop myself from asking the most beautiful girl in the room to dance.â He held out his hand and giving a slight bow. He had leaned into character now, even if he wasnât an expert as masking his smile. He straightened, looking over at her. âTruth? I was kind of hoping to run into a certain someone. I owe her a few dance or  two.â He believe that, too. He hadnât asked Rory to keep him company all those high school years - sheâd just done it. He wanted, now more than ever, to make up for that. âBetter late than never, right?â
Upon hearing his answer Rory almost let out a laugh. She certainly wasnât lacking confidence but she wasnât quite sure that with all these people around that she was the most beautiful. Still it did make her stomach flutter to hear Reed say so. âYou are too kind,â she murmured her tone low as she pretended to look coy. She couldnât help but let out a giggle when he bowed. He looked damn handsome but it seemed so silly in the moment.
âYes better late than never,â Rory agreed after he explained his true reasoning for being there. âI never missed the whole dancing part though. It was totally overrated back then,â she admitted before reaching to take his hand. âStill you wonât be getting out of it now,â Rory concluded, pulling him towards the floor and then turning to face him. The song was a slow one so she held his hand in hers and placed the other on his shoulder.
