“Now that sounds like a big lapse in judgement, Gilmore-” he replied with ease a little bit of disbelief etched on his features. It had been some time since the last time he saw her, the denial of running away with him in college had bruised his ego, almost as much as the run in with her blonde, rich boyfriend. But things seemed like they had began to settle, visiting Luke turned into a run in with Rory to his surprise. Home from yet another journalistic adventure and he had just decided to see his uncle.
Fate had a funny way of working itself out.
“I mean, you’ve got your mom and Luke and whenever your grandparents aren’t acting completely bonkers,” Jess’ shoulders shrugged, taking a short drink out of the coffee cup in his hand. “You got people on your side. More than you think, Rory. Sometimes you just gotta cut your losses.”
She ignored his first comment, letting herself take a drink from her own coffee mug. “It’s not that I don’t have people on my side. I know they love me and will support me, but you on the other hand have helped me be confident in who I am as a person. I wouldn’t be a journalist, or even a college graduate if you hadn’t knocked sense into me. I was in such a bad spot and you helped me find the right track.”
Rory turned her head to look at him fully. “I trust you because you don’t sugarcoat anything and you tell me what I need to hear, even if I don’t like it.” The admiration she had for Jess never left, he has been a really good friend to her over the years. “Thank you for turning my life around.” There is no telling where she would be now, if he didn’t.
