finally wrote out a lil timeline of wol rose's story...wah wah
-200 years previous A group of the disparate A'kan tribe discovers a voidgate and begins studying it. Eventually this leads to them slowly being warped by it, their aether subtly becoming aligned to darkness. The group calls on the other members of the tribe and the entire tribe congregates around the voidgate to pool their resources and knowledge together, unwittingly seeling their fate as a voidsent finally makes contact with them, hungry for aether. In exchange for the voidsent's knowledge of the occult, they begin feeding it aether until one of them secretly begins to research a way to bind the voidsent and force it to give all of it's knowledge and power to them and them alone. However, the voidsent discovers this before they're finished developing the spell and curses the whole tribe for their slight. However, because of the long spell of proximity to the voidgate, the curse takes a stronger hold than intended, and transforms all the A'kan into quasi-voidsent vampires. Those who are nearby kill and feast upon the voidsent before turning their gaze outward to the rest of Xak Tural. They established a reign of terror that lasted for years before the Vipers of Yok Tural finally manage to curb their dark hold over the region. At this point the A'kan mostly faded into myth, the few remaining hid in caves and sustained themselves off of what few scraps of blood they could get their hands on, mostly feeding upon livestock and the occasional traveler who went too far into the inky dark of night.
-60 years ago Roughly 20 years after Gulool Ja Ja establishes Tulliyolal and unites the disparate peoples of Tural, rumors begin to spread of missing peoples. Some even say that the A'kan have returned to re-establish their rule over Xak Tural. In order to protect his people, the Dawnservant gathers some of his followers and moves to strike at the heart of the problem. Upon finally discovering the source of the rumors, he finds the A'kan in a vast cavern network converted into a grand archive where the remaining bloodsuckers have lived for the past 140 years of exile. Desperate and feral, they attack Gulool Ja Ja and try to take the Dawnservant's blood. With his prodigious strength he easily fends off their attack, weakened as they are. With this the head of reason begins to understand that the A'kan are not only real but also a desperate people, driven by hunger and fear. With this, the head of reason convinces his brother to offer up some of their blood to a few of the A'kan in the hopes of establishing a parley. With a small truce established, the Dawnservant then begins researching alongside the A'kan for a way to lessen their curse and bring them back into the light. After several years of testing different methods eventually a way is found that removes many of the negatives of the curse. In exchange for losing their prodigious voidsent magics and undying nature, the A'kan are successfully reintegrated into society and begin to spread outward across the continent once more, in search of occult knowledge as they did long ago. Along the way they discover that while they have lost much of their power they do retain heightened physical strength and long lifespans in comparison to most people, as well as still requiring blood on occasion as regular food does not sustain them as much as it should.
-Pre-1.0 (Job: Viper) Rose A'kan is born as her family unit travel through eastern Xak Tural, and they settle there for a time to raise her. However when she's merely 10 summers old her family are taken from her by a vicious vampire bat tural vidraal. Taken into care by the Viper who ultimately slew the beast, he trains her in the combat form in order to honor her parents who were also Vipers once upon a time. She eventually learns that her mentor had in fact set up her parents to be killed by the tural vidraal as his ancestor was killed by them before Gulool Ja Ja rehabilitated the A'kan. Sick of the cycle of killing, and fearing the repercussions of her actions, she escapes to Sharlayan. While waiting for the boat to Eorzea in Sharlayan she meets a Turali doctor who her mentor had helped and feels indebted to her by proxy. As a result he offers to take care of her transitional care, in part out of repaying a debt and in part as a way to further his studies. She agrees and stays in Sharlayan for a bit longer than intended, and ends up learning about the various healing magics employed in eorzea and decides that she'd rather take up the role of a healer than a warrior.
-1.0 happens. (Job: Scholar) Rose is technically part of the WoL party but essentially as a side character. She's basically a trust party member. When the calamity hits she is the sole survivor and being flung into the future erases all her memory of these happenings (and she initially fails to pick up on the fact that five years have passed since she got on the boat to eorzea)
-ARR (Job: Scholar) Mostly the same but she only narrowly avoids the scions discovering her status as a vampire due to Y'shtola keeping her secret. Y'shtola discovers her vampirism by being tackled by Rose after she fights titan and is completely exhausted by the battle, leaving her starved for aether and desperate to drink blood. At the same time, Nero and Grynewaht witness this and report it to Gaius who then informs Lahabrea of this fact.
-pARR (Job: Scholar) Rose and Y'shtola fall into a mildly tense yet oddly comforting dynamic where Rose visits Shtola's room in the middle of night once or twice a month to take blood and then afterwards when tending to Y'shtola's wounds they discuss the happenings of what's been going on.
-HVW (Job: Scholar) As part of offering sanctum to the remaining scions, Haurchefant ends up discovering Rose's vampirism and offers to keep her needs met while she recovers from the trauma of the banquet. She abstains for as long as possible and only takes blood from him a few times across the whole of HVW. Ysayle finds out by catching Rose in the midst of a hunger pang and is nearly drained before Rose begins healing her back to health (and then feeding her so she can recover). Ysayle is upset but ultimately forgives Rose as drinking blood is something she's no stranger to with her cult. Once Ysayle leaves the party after meeting with Hraesvelgr, Rose drinks Haurchefant's blood for a short while until the scions meet back up with Y'shtola who once more offers to let Rose have her blood. The scions still remain unaware of her status as a vampire.
-pHVW (Job: Scholar) Pretty much the same. At this point Y'shtola and Rose have fallen into a routine and are rather comfortable with their small moments of conversation and drinking, though it's marred somewhat by Rose still being in mourning over her crush on the fallen Ysayle.
-STB (Job: Scholar) Rose flies off the handle and tries to tear out Zenos' throat when he cuts Y'shtola down, but is ultimately defeated. With her battle against Zenos being the first time she's majorly injured in battle, Rose is forced to reveal her condition to the scions (and the doctors taking care of her). Lyse offers to take over for Y'shtola as blood donor as she recognizes the scions still need Rose even if the rest are a bit cautious towards her following this reveal. Y'shtola becomes jealous but ultimately relents when Rose begs her not to give blood while she's recovering. Otherwise the same.
-pSTB (Job: Dark Knight) While visiting the Fortemps manor, Rose discovers Fray's dead body and goes along the DRK storyline, finding that the powers of darkness come quite naturally to her as her aether is already somewhat dark-aligned due to the lingering remnants of the A'kan curse. A difference is that rather than simply killing immoral temple knights, the slain victims are found entirely devoid of blood…With Rose mysteriously feeling quite full on the night of the attack. In the main plot, with Y'shtola recovered she once again takes over as Rose's blood bag, seemingly a bit defensive about the fact that Lyse had to be the one to do it in her place. This however doesn't last long as soon after the scions are pulled into the first. While Y'shtola's gone Rose abstains from drinking blood…Or so she thinks, until Fray reveals himself to her as Esteem. On the first, Y'shtola is told by Thancred and Urianger to hide Rose's status as a vampire from the Exarch. Already fed up with the secrets surrounding him she struggles with whether or not she can keep the secret or if she should at the very least make sure that this one thing is clear and spoken, if only to prove her point that there's too many secrets. Ultimately she decides she values Rose's trust in her too much to reveal the truth and holds the information back from the Exarch. Soon after she goes to stay with the night's blessed and cuts off contact with the scions out of a mixture of rage and guilt. The rest of Stormblood is the same (including the stb drk questline).
-SHB (Job: Dark Knight) Almost entirely the same however Emet-Selch makes use of the information Lahabrea told him about the vaunted Warrior of Light as an in to earn her trust, by offering up his blood to her in private. With the only other choice being to continue preying upon the Crystarium's people in secret, she accepts his deal and finds that (due to his being an unsundered) his blood tastes incredibly rich and is sickeningly filling. She hates him a little more for it. He's smug about it. Y'shtola feels guilty about mistaking Rose for a sin eater and is unable to confess how she feels. Rose tells Y'shtola about her background and admits to being from Tural, much to Y'shtola's surprise as she was under the impression Tural did not have Au Ra.
-pSHB (Job: Dark Knight) With Hades gone, Rose attempts to sate her bloodlust on the wayward waitress of the wandering stairs only to be beaten back by her. Soon after the role quests have her reveal her status as the shadowkeeper and she offers Rose her blood as penance. Both of them feel strange and upset over the situation but can't quite put their finger on why. Rose finds Cyella's blood to be delicious, due to her aether being tinted heavily towards dark.
-5.2 (Job: Dark Knight) Y'shtola and Rose finally confess their feelings for each other and get together. Yippee :D She still can't drink her girlfriend's blood again yet though. UN-YIPPEE D:
-5.3 (Job: Dark Knight) She uses the crystal of azem for the first time but only uses it to teleport back, not yet realizing it's power to channel dynamis.
-Post 5.3 (Job: Sage) Pretty much the same. They sleep together for the first time after a celebration of the scions returning home. In her research of curative magics, she begins practicing somanoutics and realizes she can use somanoutics to adapt hemomantic techniques the A'kans used to control blood to enhance her healing. Combining her vampiric nature with sage magic and her knowledge gained as a scholar, she invents the Blood Sage job.
-Endwalker (Job: Sage) Pretty much the exact same from here on out. She finally realizes the full power of the crystal of azem and uses it to battle endsinger, culminating in her unlocking a super form a la super sonic. She will use this transformation any time she's pushed to the edge from here on out.
-Post Endwalker (Job: Sage) Rose gets jealous that Zero gets to have some of Y'shtola's aether but Shtola makes it up to her by proposing (but not before they mutually tease each other about the times they get jealous). They can't figure out a good time to have the ceremony though because of all the void shenanigans. And then Wuk Lamat shows up soon after and they have to put it on hold again.
-Dawntrail (Job: Warrior of Light. Combination of SCH/SGE/VPR/DRK) Rose gets a new weapon that allows her to rapidly swap between Sage, Viper, and Dark Knight by combining the brand new Variant Nouliths into different shapes. She channels faerie magic through the nouliths when they're in sage-form.
Y'shtola comes with them but is otherwise not a part of the main plot as she's too busy studying her notes on travelling across the rift. Rose visits very often. Soon after Wuk Lamat takes the throne, Rose and Shtola have their wedding ceremony in Xak Tural. Also Wuk Lamat and Rose have small dates on occasion with Shtola coming along and the three of them hit it off. She uses the crystal of azem to transform in order to fight Sphene, and lends some of her power to Wuk Lamat when she arrives on the scene, so that she can deal the final blow.
