Yes I do know that and I think it’s great!! He is, 100%, only interested in dudes, but still shies away from labels and I LOVE delving into why that is.

Could it be that, since he was raised on the Internet, Dirk saw only the absolute shit heap that is the online-based queer community and, unable to join any actual real life queer communities, believed online gay groups or (shudders) tumblr to be the norm? Online queer communities have fairly high levels of gatekeeping and toxicity to them, and it would be very very very easy for Dirk to become disgusted and want to throw the whole thing out when he sees how online gay dating (no fats/blacks/femmes), online gay interactions (bisexuals and aces are just cishetties who want to feel special), and online nomenclature ended up.

Was Alpha Dave Kinda Homophobic? Dirk idolized his brother, and while Beta Dave had a chance to re-examine his internalized predjucies and heal and grow, Alpha Dave might not have. He could very, very easily be on the record laughing at something stupid and saying “that’s gay.” It’s hardly uncommon terminology, and Beta Dave himself has used the exact phrase in early acts, prior to realizing that why he lashed out as hard as he did against queer men was because he himself was one, and he’d been raised in a toxic, masculine, and heteronormative household that would’ve gotten his ass beat for that. If Alpha Dave was in any way demeaning towards male homosexuality, I don’t think Dirk would want anything to do with that label, despite being pretty comfortable in the fact that he experiences attraction to guys and guys only.

And like, what if it’s something else? Dirk doesn’t like labels because the more he thinks about it, the further down the rabbit hole his brain goes until finally he gets to the conclusion that both gender and sexuality are actually Super Fake™ and everything is fake and nothing matters and how can you even claim a label when the landscape of identity is a constantly shifting, ambiguous nightmare. Dirk doesn’t like labels because labels are for preps. Dirk doesn’t like labels because he feels a massive weight of guilt since he cannot return Roxy’s affections and grant her a “normal” intimate relationship with him and so even though he knows he’s only interested in guys and Roxy isn’t a guy he holds out a perverse and twisted hope that maybe he isn’t, maybe someday he’ll just be mostly into guys and Roxy will be an exception and he can love her the way she wants him to. Dirk doesn’t like labels because he saw the “what if I don’t fit in the box/there is no box” video one time and immediately adopted it as his life philosophy. Dirk doesn’t like labels because each label has years and years of history and connotations to it and that’s just too much time to invest on an identifier when there are only three other human beings in existence and one cute alien and her bastard brother.

There are SO many cool reasons why Dirk might not like labels and like feel free to add onto this post and chat w me.

It doesn’t even have to be canon mlm or wlw, I’ve seen people get torn apart for headcanoning a character of ambigious/unconfirmed sexuality as aspec or pan or bi or nb. Like it’s not even confirmed or canon! People’s headcanons are as valid as yours! And yet they still tear down aces and aros and bi and pan people and nbs for “stealing” a character we don’t even really know the identity of!

I’m getting sick and tired of people still saying Rose could be a lesbian. They cite that they don’t count an incestuous relationship, but forget said relationship was in a doomed timeline and before they knew they were siblings. She actually is canon bi. She implies that she and John would make a cute couple and flirts with Dave early on. I understand that Homestuck is long and many people likely forgot about this, but I’m not going to erase canon bisexuality just because people forgot. That is final.

There are actually people who are upset about Rose Lalonde being confirmed bisexual by Andrew himself.

There are people claiming that him stating she dated Dave in the doomed timeline erase her being interested in women (which spoiler alert: it doesn’t because she ended up with Kanaya anyway and a bi/pan person being with a guy doesn’t remove their attraction to women). Never mind that it was at least heavily hinted they flirted with each other before the events of the comic happened.

There are people saying him hinting in the new book about RoseJohn is gross and “wlw erasure”.

Anyway, Rose Lalonde is bisexual, she has been this whole time, and all the antis can die angry. And if you have a problem with that, you’re a fucking biphobe and I want nothing to do with you.

Edit: Okay, so I have other thoughts about this that I want to get out and want people to see.

If the whole “Dave and Rose dated in the doomed timeline” thing squicks you out, that’s fine! That’s totally understandable. Though Andrew did state that he hadn’t thought up of the idea they were related at that time and had been hinting at them prior to that point in the comic. So really, it’s a case of the incest being accidental anyway and Andrew later made it clear in the comic how both of them felt uncomfortable about the whole thing.

But that isn’t the only way that Rose was confirmed bi. Andrew hinted strongly at JohnRose in the same book. So if you want to ignore the whole DaveRose thing because it squicks you out, then that’s fine. But don’t discredit her being bi and claim that’s the only evidence when Andrew mentioned her having feelings for John, which is totally fine and has no squick involved. And don’t get on the cases of people celebrating her being bi as people being incest supporters.
