why would you tag a bunch of minors in series of posts detailing graphic descriptions of rape, abuse, or suicide baitings and not think there was anything wrong with that? not all antis send death threats or suicide bait or rape threats. in fact, the vast majority of antis are minors who would never do that. ALL anti antis ship problematic material. you say theres nothing wrong with it, but that begs the question: what is appealing about shipping two brothers together? or a dad and his bio kid?

The trigger warnings were there. But if they don’t want to look at the damage their community has done, maybe they shouldn’t be a part of that community. They’re not babies. Being a minor doesn’t spare them a wake-up call for what’s been going on in their community. Being a minor should spare you from sexual advances from adults. It should spare you from debt or extensive legal responsibility. It should spare you from being forced to work a job, or forced out on the streets. It should not spare you from being told you are making yourself part of a group that has told Jewish people to burn alive, queer people their identities aren’t real, survivors their abuse was deserved, disabled people they’re homebound, unwashed freaks who should wet themselves, and middle schoolers they should be raped.

The worst bullying and suicide baiting I’ve ever seen was coming from minors. A person who told me my parents and my friend’s therapist need to kill themselves “as soon as possible”? 13. A person who said my mother needs a terminal illness? 17. A person who started writing to relatives of my another friend, a lgbt person in a conservative family? 15.

Minors make the majority of the bullies. That’s not surprising, because a lot of them also go through the stage of being a school bully, and later grow out of it. But this issue needs to be addressed.

Second: Teenagers in my country at least are taught about the horrors of what Nazis did in concentration camps. Most of us have visited an old concentration camp during their school time and it made me feel sick to my stomach to see and read about all the cruelties.

when i was 15 a new teacher came to our school, she was maybe 24/25, her first job after she finished her training. the kids in my class spotted her inexperience instantly. the boys started to say obscene sexual things to her constantly, write obscene things on the blackboard. the girls loudly ridiculed what she wore. i knew this was wrong and horrible, but also not a popular kid, i was terrified to be next so i sat quietly. the woman had a mental breakdown after 2 weeks and quit. she had never done anything to anyone in that class.. she couldn’t have, she had not been there long enough. it was an attack with a weak excuse that she was a teacher, and weird… she wasn’t weird just shy and very well spoken.

many antis pretend like words can’t hurt adults… bullying, mocking, harassment there is no cutoff point. it’s not 18, people who turn 18 and legally become adults don’t stop having emotions, don’t stop being vulnerable, people who turn the magical age of 25 when the brain “stops developing” don’t stop having emotions, don’t stop being vulnerable, and so on…

incessant group attacks, suicide baiting, death threats, threats of harm, stalking, mocking and gas lighting it affects people as much when they are 13 as when they are 53. it may affect them slightly differently and maybe a 53 might need more to break, because they may have worked out some defenses by then. but everyone has a breaking point. and no stranger online knows where it is, and what will trigger it. if you’re in a group that believes some people don’t have emotions and can’t be hurt then you’re stripping these people of their humanity and that’s a really messed up thing to do.

not to mention that from what i’ve seen anti behaviour is in most cases for fun, or for clout and fully based on made up accusations.

ive been reading a book that basically explains how so-called “brain differences” between the genders is the result of gendered socialization and not the cause of it. i honestly expected the book to be very cis-centric but its actually the opposite, the author stresses that testimony from trans ppl is actually indispensable because we’ve, in a sense, “lived both experiences”

1) A woman she worked with at the hospital who had a baby with one of the ambulance drivers. When work found out they fired her (he kept his job). She tried to self-abort with a knitting needle.

2) The sister of one of her neighbours who wasn’t able to rent a room because she was a ‘fallen woman’.

3) A girl who got sent to a convent house and scrubbed floors until the day she gave birth. Her baby was given up for adoption without her consent.

4) Girls who had babies with priests.

5) Women who were on their fifth, sixth, seventh child, who had been pregnant for the best part of a decade, begging for sterilisation because their husbands wouldn’t wear a condom.

Banning abortion has never ever stopped it from happening. It’s just meant more stigma, more prejudice, more risks and more deaths.

In 1962, my mother was going thru a divorce, got pregnant and knew this fact would be used to deny her divorce (they used to do that, in case you didn’t know).  

My mother was given a “shot”; she lived 3 blocks from the doctor.   He never told her what it was, likely an “overdose” of progesterone, which is how they used to “induce menstruation” in a hurry (i.e. abortion off the books).  She was about 7-8 weeks by her estimation.  He said, GO STRAIGHT HOME, go to bed and stay there.  She walked fast, but nearly collapsed at the curb and my grandmother went out to guide her into the house.  She went to bed, stayed there and bled steadily and heavily for 3-4 days.  She said it was like being very very sick, headaches, nausea, vomiting… and then, gone.  

She never let me forget this and took me to my first NARAL meeting when I was 15 yrs old.  And here I am today, in my 50s–and I still remember my grandmother’s scary account; my mother swaying, literally, at the curb, and nearly falling, under the strength of that one shot.  

How did she get the doctor to do it? She told him, “If you don’t, I will do it myself”–and if you knew my mother, you knew she meant it.  She would have.  After all, lots of women she knew had.  

This is what they want to take us all back to, the fucking middle ages.  Please remember.

I didn’t figure out that I wasn’t straight/cis until my 20s (for a variety of reasons), but I’ve been clearly masc-leaning since I was a kid - teen!me wouldn’t in any way have been out of place marching with Dykes with Bikes in terms of aesthetics, despite the fact that I had no idea that I wasn’t straight. I can only imagine how crushed I’d’ve been at 17/18 to be told that the label I thought I’d finally found that fit the way I wanted to present, the way I hadn’t grown out of being a tomboy like everyone said I should, wasn’t for me unless I was willing to commit to an orientation that I wasn’t sure was right. That I really was a freak, because if I was dressing that way I had to be attracted to women, even though I honestly wasn’t sure I was attracted to much of anyone.

(Also coming from a rural community, like. I know lots and lots of women who are happily married to dudes, with kids and a picket fence, who nevertheless are pretty fucking butch. We’re talking no make-up, trucker hat, short hair, plaid shirt and mens jeans, throwing lumber into the back of their half-ton truck wearing work gloves, showing up to community events in a slightly cleaner pair of jeans with the plaid shirt buttoned up.)

Literally the only reason I identify as female and not nonbinary is because I do so by rural working-class Canadian standards of femininity. Because FOR THAT CULTURE, it is entirely normal to use power tools, get a postsecondary education, wear flannel and jeans, have short hair, drive a big truck, play rough contact sports, swear, use guns, pitch in with farmwork, participate in municipal government, and drink beer.

If I hd to fit suburban middle-class femininity, I’d riot.

So I read Tumblr debates about what femininity is and how women attracted to men “perform femininity for men” and I just feel so alienated and confused because this is not the femininity I recognize at all…

…and then I go down into the basement of a small town United Church of Canada congregation and immediately fall into a common rhythm with other women putting out coffee and cookies and making knowing eye contact behind the back of a man who acts like he is An Hero for washing one (1) plate, and I’m like, “Okay yeah, I recognize myself among other women.”

But God forbid we talk about how gender is socially constructed and therefore context-dependent, not a pure emanation from my biological spiritual womanhood or something.

Abled people have seriously skewed the meaning of “recovery” and i am Not About That. 

Whenever I hear the word mentioned (both on this site and in real life), the conversational subtext is usually “when will you/they recover enough to meet the standards of abled society?” As if I, a nuerodivergent person living with chronic pain will one day get up and fit seamlessly into a society not made to accommodate me. (Or as if I have any interest in doing so, which,, HAH. Nope!) I’m basically resigned to hearing this from abled people by now, but I’ve noticed fellow spoonies getting frustrated about not being able to do stuff that Abled Society says they should and falling into the pit of “when I’m recovered I’ll meet those standards”. That is not okay!!

For one, chronically ill and disabled people’s lives fit a different pattern than abled people. There is no magical point where all our symptoms vanish and we return to mainstream society — the hint is in the keyword “chronic”. It means that our condition or illness is a) going to stick around for a long, indeterminable length of time, possible lifelong, or b) recurs frequently or consistently. For example, my autism will never go away and I am completely fine with that, but fluctuating circumstances may mean that I manage the traits better at some times than others. My RLS will never go away either, but unlike autism it isn’t constant — I can have weeks, even months, with no symptoms and then suffer for the next six months straight. If I say that I’m recovering, what I mean is “I just had a symptomatic flare-up that knocked me off my feet but I’m managing the fallout better and getting back to my version of normal” NOT “i am now Fully Functioning and able to do bed-linen laundry without pain and suddenly capable of stuff i couldn’t do before.”

Secondly, recovery is a personal experience that nobody else can define. I’ve said it already but boy is it worth reiterating: recovery for chronically ill/disabled folks means getting back to OUR individual version of normal, not ANYONE ELSE’S version of normal. This definition is particularly important when talking about anyone who used to be (more) abled because in those cases, recovery can mean finding a NEW version of normal. 

If someone is in remission for a disease — let’s say cancer, since that’s a Big Thing — they could end up symptom-free, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they’ve recovered. Cancer (both the illness and the treatment of it) puts a huge about of trauma on both the body AND the mind, and they may need to adjust their lifestyle because of that. Expecting your life to go back to 100% normal after an illness/accident is harmful to your mental and physical health and I am SICK of abled society encouraging it. 

Recovery means understanding what your body and mind needs and learning how to provide it so you can live comfortably/manage your symptoms; NOT so that abled people approve of how you live your life! Just remember that
