Goodmorning, Guys! It’s Ib’s 6th year anniversary! Just look how this game has gone far!
Going to post some art later on after choir practice but I’m going to talk about the game for a while. Just to appreciate it, probably might add a break line here later, since I’m on mobile.
Ib has been the first Pixel RPG Horror game I’ve come across (Around 2013-2014?), I’ve seen art and videos of it in the past but It didn’t catch my interest at first, and I regret finding about it so late. Basically, the game made me love pixel rpg games. The game’s setting is on an Art Gallery which immediately makes me weak because I love art galleries/museums. I love the scenery of the game even if it’s just rooms with paintings and sculptures. Kouri really did an effort with making the artworks in the gallery which I appreciate because they’re so cool! The puzzles are simple, not much chase scenes but the game’s atmosphere can keep you on your toes during your first gameplay, watching it and playing it are two different experiences.
The characters: basically the story and characters of the game brought us in. They’re such lovable characters in their own flawed ways. I’ll talk about them below, I’ll save Ib for the last, because she’s the best.
Garry, our blue rose screamer. He’s quite the fan favorite and I can see why, although some art portrayals sadden me because most people overlook the fact that he uses feminine pronouns in the Japanese game, but don’t let my words discourage you, do what you like! I like him a lot as well as a character and I appreciate the way he treats Ib so kindly like a little sister. His reactions to the gallery are hilarious. He’s willing to trade his own life just so Ib can live, and he’s just an overall sweetheart, best brother ever.
Mary! The sweet yellow rose painting. The fans are divided in either hating her or loving her because of her hatred for garry but honestly, I like Mary a lot as well. She’s a painting by Guertena, all alone in that world with no one to talk and play with, she’s the most human painting in there, she’s friends with the paintings but they’re not as human-like as her, so she desires to leave the Fabricated World, she’s hostile but there’s a reason for that. She wants a friend, which she saw in Ib. Together, Forever is the ending where Mary truly gets what she wants, and I found it cute that the two became sisters. Because I headcanon that Ib really wants to have siblings, being an only child, obviously. But I adore Mary, but it’s just a wrong move for her to use hostility in order to get what she wants, but I see her reasons. It made me sad to see her fade into ashes.
And Ib, our glorious red rose child. The protagonist who’s often overlooked because of her silence, but out of all the characters of the game, she’s my absolute favorite! I was learning what kind of person Ib was, not through her speech but through her language and the actions we choose for her to do, so seeing as Promise of Reunion is the true route for the game, we can see Ib being a polite, curious, kind and strong child. On the first few rooms in the gallery, Ib was brave enough to go through them alone. And due to her problems with understanding difficult words, it seems that’s she curious enough to learn what they are and what they mean, by asking Garry a lot. And when Mary asked her the “If there were only two” question, Ib has the option to say that she’d surrender herself, which basically means she believes that none of them deserved to be left behind, and if the event would happen, Ib would let both of them leave while she stays behind. whyisntthesacrificeendingcanon?!? which strikes a very kind personality of Ib. I always adore child protagonists in books, movies and games because, everything is so different in their perspective, hence why Ib tops the cake. I adore her so much, I just wished that the fanbase before gave her enough recognition by herself, and not of the shipping.
I had a lot of words unsaid because it’s a school day and I don’t want to be late and I think this sums it up momentarily. I love this game very much, I appreciate it, despite the fanbase being low currently since a lot of years passed since this game was released. Please, if you haven’t played Ib, please experience this heart crusher.
Happy 6th anniversary to this game once again!
