Orion had just finished making dinner for Rosa. Three hours, a total scrap of the entire meal because his mom called and kept him on the phone for fifteen minutes crowing about safe sex and telling him to have fun. Pulling the puffs from the fridge, he wiped his brow and smiled. A candle was lit on the dining table and he may or may not have actually worn cologne. No shirt yet, but cologne.
He and Rosa had a strange and loving relationship, and even though publicly they crucified the other, it was nothing like that in private. He loved being around her and she was a breath of fresh air from everything that was going on. A knock on the door and Ry jumped up, adjusting his shirt and beamed. “Oh, you look so pretty…” Rosa was wearing the dress he’d given her. “So I know it’s mushy but I got you something.” Pulling a small, ornate box from his back pocket, he presented it. He’d gone to the store and found the least flashy piece of jewelry he could find to give to her. Simple and lovely. “If you don’t like it I’ll take it back.” Taking her coat, he smiled and kissed her on the cheek. “Happy Valentines Day.” Walking to grab his shirt off the couch, he grinned cheekily. “Sorry, I kind of got sweaty and scrapped dinner once soo..”
Rosa put on the dress Orion had picked out for her. Though she rarely wore them, she found the gesture oddly... sweet. The dress was simple enough, yet flattering. Well, she supposed she could put up with it for one night. Yeah. Just for tonight. Settling on a simple makeup look, she twirled once in front of the mirror before throwing on a jacket and, begrudgingly, the black high heeled shoes.
Before leaving, Rosa grabbed a bag packed with warmer clothes, her skates, and comfortable shoes, in case they decided to go skating at the festival. Though, if she was being honest, she wasn’t even sure they’d make it that far. Not that she minded, it was Valentine’s day after all. The only person she wanted to spend it with was Ry. Regardless of their attitude in public, they weren’t always picking at each other. When they were alone, it was nothing short of loving.
Finally arriving at Orion’s place, she knocked on the door. Sometimes Rosa wondered why she bothered. They’d been dating so long she might as well just walk in. Though, still, she waited for Orion to answer the door. When he did, she couldn’t help but giggle at his under dressed appearance. Well, at least he smelled good. “Only because I’m wearing what you chose for me,” she said, before stepping inside.
After a moment, he was pulling a box from his back pocket. She nearly had a heart attack at the implication, but her worries were quickly dismissed when Ry opened it. Just a simple necklace, nothing flashy. “Oh Ry no, don’t return it, it’s beautiful,” she said, letting him take her jacket. “Oh God Ry, I feel so bad. I should have gotten you something more than just cheap wine” she continued, taking the bottle from her bag.
Of course, it didn’t end there. Of course he’d made the perfect dinner too. “What did I do to deserve so much?” she asked, honestly a bit in disbelief he’d managed to prepare all of this under her nose. “You really didn’t have to, honestly, I would have been happy with take out. As long as we’re together, it’s perfect,” she said.
“Happy Valentine’s day,” she repeated to him, taking the necklace out of the box, “Put this on for me?” Rosa asked, turning around and handing him the necklace before turning around and sweeping her hair out of the way. Once it was placed around her neck, Rosa turned around and kissed him, “So love, sh’all we eat?” Food was her third favorite thing, after Ry and hockey of course.
“I mean, you could just leave the shirt off...” she said, letting her eyes wander down his chest a little before laughing. “Juuuust kidding! If I have to dress up then so do you,” she continued, before trotting to the kitchen to find the wine glasses, “Let’s have a classy night for once, yeah?”
