The same can be said about her and her mother, but she would not admit that at this point in her life. “I am sorry.”, she apologized once again when she saw the negative feelings that she caused her cousin to have. “Of course you can’t, but I think it would be worse if you don’t give him the choice to stay or not. The two of you had a relationship, a good one, and not everyone is lucky enough to have had that. Please don’t let all of that go to waste.”

“Hasn’t she already done that with my mother?” An inappropriate joke that she sort of regretted making right away. That is why she apologized. “I’m sorry. I still don’t think that your arranged engagement should have gotten in the way of the relationship that you actually wanted to have. You, of all people, deserve the chance to have the latter.” And having that chance taken away from Sabina when she was already happy was worse than anything Luciana experienced. She did not think that was fair because she deserved to experience a bad thing like that more than her cousin did. “If I were you, I would not bother trying to convince me of that anymore.” She shrugged at that thought then focused on unlocking the door of her villa.

                𝐖𝐇𝐈𝐋𝐄 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐉𝐎𝐊𝐄 𝐖𝐀𝐒  perhaps ill timed, she couldn’t help the agreement with her cousin’s words. ❝ it must be a family tradition. let’s decide to let it go. ❞ though, the more she thought about it... the more she agreed. both queens were insane in their own way. the only difference being that her aunt perhaps had a decent sized heart. or... one to begin with. though, she supposed there was no way of really knowing. luciana’s words urge the brunette to bite onto her bottom lip harshly, a weak attempt at maintaining her emotions at bay. a slump of delicate shoulders indicates a shrug and she’s waving the words off or so she tries. ❝ i can’t force zhao to stay, luci. and even then - wouldn’t it be wrong ?? ❞ the selfless sabina knew it would be wrong. ❝ i couldn’t ever give up on you. you’re better off getting a wall to move. ❞

“your loss,” serafina replied, not surprised in the slightest. she’d known as she was asking the question that sabina would probably say no, but she’d be a bad older sister if she didn’t at least offer, right? once sabina had sat down, sera pulled her knees up to her chest and looped her arms around them, making herself appear smaller than she was. “so,” she said, “we have a lot to talk about. mom’s crazy again — what’s new? — but i wanted to know how you’re holding up. being stuck here is already a lot without having a fiance sprung on you. so, update me! spare no detail! don’t hold back!” serafina would be lying if she said she wasn’t excited to hear the details of sabina’s predicament from her own point of view. she’d only heard from the press and from their mother, and god knew those were two completely unreliable sources.

                𝐀𝐒 𝐈𝐅 𝐒𝐇𝐄 𝐖𝐀𝐒𝐍'𝐓  already overwhelmed, leave it to her sister to drop a nice metaphorical cold bucket of water on her. sabina was silent for a moment, taking in the rushed rant of statements that left the blonde. serafina could be a lot to take in, luckily for the polish princesses... sabina was fool proof to anything her sister could possibly say or do. she knew the girl meant well even when bringing up subjects that weren’t sabina’s cup of tea. ❝ she has always been crazy. ❞ the brunette lets out dryly, lack of amusement evident in hazel hues. but no amount of ranting or in depth description of their mother’s lack of sanity or... feelings would free sabina from the topic at hand. she knew that. ❝ well... rowen’s nice. he’s trying, at least. or... i think he is ?? but i guess it’s just hard to get used to all of this. ❞

now that was something barbara understood: the only person a savoy didn’t have a chance fighting against was another savoy. especially if that was one’s parent. barbie wouldn’t even dare going against catarina, it was a waste of time and a very dangerous game to be playing. “ yes, well, if you need any help you know where to find me. ” even if it were just to talk her frustrations out, the blonde knew how that helped and sometimes one just needed to vent. “ it’s nothing for you to worry about, dear, we’re dealing with this our way. hopefully it won’t be a huge fight for power and she won’t resist like king arthur did. is doing. don’t know. ”

                𝐈𝐓 𝐖𝐀𝐒 𝐁𝐄𝐒𝐓 𝐓𝐎  simply allow her mother to have her win and lose her in the process. though, she wasn’t entirely sure that simonetta even cared. ❝ you know i love you, barbie and... i really appreciate you always being there for me. ❞ she meant every word said and she hoped barbie knew that. if they were being honest, barbara played a nurturing role in the family one that sabina definitely appreciated. ❝ i guess not but - being filled in would be appreciated. especially if her putting up a fight is even a possibility. ❞

having her close stung at every inch of his skin, like strings pulled too taut, even though it should’ve been cut months and months ago. it was all bound to break again, but this tenuous friendship could at least last for a moment by the fire, in the dark, in this space. he keeps his gaze on her like a moth to any dying flame, but doesn’t move, as he usually does, to comfort or hold. “neither have i. it’s weird… recently…” he begins, cautious, fiddling with his intertwined fingers. “these days, i’ve been thinking – i know we said we were going to be friends but… i don’t want to make you uncomfortable, sab. you can tell me what you think about that – we’ll go with what you feel is right. it’s only fair… i think… but if we’re going to keep being friends, i hope – i hope we still talk, you know? like we used to.”

               𝐎𝐅 𝐂𝐎𝐔𝐑𝐒𝐄 𝐈𝐓 𝐖𝐀𝐒 𝐖𝐄𝐈𝐑𝐃  they had been rid of their control and were now spiraling, at least to her. she was so far from the crown that, at best, she had hung to every inch of the possibility of marrying who she wanted. but oh how they mighty had fallen. now she was sitting besides someone she knew like the back of her hand and yet... he felt so far away. two strangers deemed so by their own blood. sabina nods slowly at his words to reflect her agreement but she remains silent as he speaks up again. there’s that horrid twist in her stomach, the tug at her heart and the undeniable falter in her breath. like we used to. every atom in her had grown impulsive when it came to him. thus, she’s unable to stop herself. ❝ nothing is how it used to be. WE aren’t like we used to be. ❞ the polish princess snaps, shaky breath following her whispered apology for her tone. her hands move to hug herself lightly as she glances away from him and back to the fire. ❝ i can’t be friends your friend... i just - i can’t. ❞ there’s defeat in her tone. God knows she tried so badly to be his friend for the simple fact that she was too selfish to let him go. sabina falls silent for a moment, gaze stuck on the flames, unable to bring herself to look at him. ❝ i can’t even look at you without... without - wishing i was someone else. ❞ her bottom lip trembles and so she brings it between her teeth, biting on it lightly.

“boring.” serafina answered the question with her trademark exaggerated eye-roll. she took a long sip from her mai tai, savoring the citric flavor as it went down. “long. full of shitty airline food.” she huffed out a long sigh and leaned over to set her drink down on the small end table beside her lounge chair. once it was out of the way, she sat up straight and reached up to grasp her sister’s hand, squeezing it gently before letting go. “sit, we’ll talk. do you want a drink? god knows the alcohol in this place is one of the few good things about it.”

               ❝ 𝐈 𝐅𝐈𝐆𝐔𝐑𝐄𝐃 𝐀𝐒 𝐌𝐔𝐂𝐇. ❞ sabina let out, slumping her shoulders in a shrug. she could understand the shitty airline food but unlike her sister - sabina wasn’t one to voice that fact. small hand is grasped by the blonde’s and she offers her a gentle smile as the princess sits besides the other, gaze lingering on her drink before she shakes her head. ❝ no, i’m alright. ❞

phuket was good for one thing: it was hot. sera had no trouble justifying putting on her nicest bikini ( a cute little dolce and gabbana number with a floral print ) and heading down to park her ass firmly by the pool. mai tai in hand, hair tied up in a messy bun, san tan lotion applied. for about twenty minutes, life was good. but fina was going stir crazy ― could you blame her? she was used to excessive travel. being stuck in one place was seriously harshing her springtime vibes. she turned restlessly on her lounge chair, not spending enough time in any one position to actually get a good tan going. on her third roll over onto her back, though, she spotted someone approaching. she couldn’t tell if they were actually heading to the pool or just passing by on their way to do something else entirely, but she could still be friendly, right? she was in dire need of entertainment. “hey!” she called out, raising a hand in greeting. “enjoying the sunshine?” ― @hshqstarters·

              𝐈𝐓 𝐖𝐀𝐒 𝐀 𝐌𝐀𝐓𝐓𝐄𝐑 𝐎𝐅  time before her sister was shipped off to phuket along with the rest of the family, that much sabina knew. but in truth, she had expected serafina to put up more of a fight. still, she had worked with her advisor to ensure her tight schedule be put on pause to welcome the blonde. not that she had much of a choice, anyways. there she was, as promised, by the pool and evidently on her last shred of patience. sabina is silent as she continues towards her, large t-shirt covering her bikini for the short trip to the pool. ❝ all five seconds of it have been exquisite. ❞ her voice is soft but her tone is as light-hearted as ever. ❝ how was your flight ?? ❞

“We really are related.”, Luciana joked in reference to the eye roll that her aunt caused Sabina to do. “And you couldn’t? The look on your face kind of makes it seem like the answer to that question is no. Do you not want to at least hear her explanation?” Being on the giving end of those questions, she now realized what her family felt like when they tried to convince her to speak to her mother still. Now that Stella seemed to be making the wrong calls, however, there was no chance of that happening again. “Alright, my villa it is. Come on.” Not how she expected to spend the night. She actually had plans of going out for dinner by herself but for Sabina, she was willng to scrap those plans. “It used to be. Now, I am honetly running out of hope.”

               𝐍𝐎 𝐃𝐎𝐔𝐁𝐓 𝐀𝐁𝐎𝐔𝐓 𝐈𝐓,  they were definitely blood. ❝ simonetta would probably sell her soul to the devil before she truly apologized to anyone and that includes her own children. either way, there isn’t a single half assed explanation she could give me that would justify anything she’s said and done. ❞ she meant every word she spoke. a prince had already been involved with sabina and the reason why her mother had ignored their relationship was because he wasn’t first in line. she nods in agreement as they begin on their way to luci’s villa. ❝ and that is exactly why you’ve got me. ❞ sabina offers another smile but she knows it’ll do little to ease her cousin’s worries. ❝ i know you’ll find a reason not to run all out. ❞

zhaohui knew this wasn’t how break-ups went – not nighttime jaunts and bonfires on colder nights, if it was colder, and only when no one was watching. there was something enchanting about seeing fire burn at things. fire could look like anything it wanted to be, but when he looked at the woman who joined him, she could only ever look beautiful. “hey, sab.” the last few days had been rough; he wasn’t compelled to smile as he would in the sun. he pat the space beside him, even though there was another free log opposite him. “i didn’t know you’d still be awake. are you okay?”

              𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐑𝐄 𝐈𝐒 𝐀 𝐂𝐄𝐑𝐓𝐀𝐈𝐍  tenderness that claims her gaze when in his presence and... well, somethings just never changed. her gaze drifts towards the spot he taps and against her better judgement, she obliges. small frame settles onto the log swiftly, eyes drifting towards the flickering flames. ❝ i could say the same for you. ❞ she lets out lightly, as best she can. if she lies to him, he’ll know - as he always did. and so sabina decides against denying her predicament. ❝ i haven’t been sleeping well. ❞ the polish princess admits softly, hands resting on her knees before she finally turns her head to glance at him.

“But what if she has something to say to you? Something that is worth listening to.” Luciana may have been past the point of thinking of her own mother the same way but she still had hope for Sabina and her aunt, hope that they were going to make things better. “Where would you like to get it?”, she asked, unsure if it would be a good idea for them to go to a bar or to stay in her villa. “It makes me happy that your arrangement did not take away the hope that you have. Don’t lose it.”

              𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐑𝐄'𝐒 𝐀 𝐑𝐎𝐋𝐋 𝐎𝐅  hazel eyes at the mere thought of her mother wanting to speak to her. it was very unlikely. ❝ she has three other children that could use an apology from her. they’d probably care for her words a lot more than i would... might as well get to them. ❞ it was true. simonetta hadn’t been as kind to her other children, whatever weight the word kind even held for her was unknown. the italian was a strong and power hungry woman, a truth she was no longer blind towards. ❝ we could always order the drinks ?? ❞ her betrothal wasn’t particularly something she wished to discuss with luciana and it was entirely due to the emotional ties she and rowen shared. it didn’t take a genius to know the mention of the engagement hurt her cousin and that had been the last thing she wished to do. ❝ it’s somewhere in you, too. ❞

“I cannot blame you for that.” Maybe it would have been better if she tried to convince her cousin to speak to her mother again, but that would make her a hypocrite and she did not want that. “Do you want to get a drink? It might help you take your mind off things.”, she suggested. “Maybe. I’m not sure.” She just shrugged. “For the lucky ones, yes. As for the not so lucky ones, well, it might not come.”

            ❝ 𝐈 𝐇𝐀𝐕𝐄 𝐍𝐎𝐓𝐇𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐓𝐎 say to her. ❞ sabina shrugs, gaze drifting away from her in hopes of hiding just how hard it had been for her to understand that herself. there had been an unfamiliar resentment towards her mother but now ?? now it was far too familiar. it had absolutely nothing to do with rowen but all to do with zhaohui. her mother knew better or, well, she should have. ❝ sure, luci. ❞ in truth, she didn’t agree because she, herself, needed the drink but mostly because she thought that her cousin did. ❝ it comes to everyone. you just have to be patient and open enough to it. ❞
