I just finished ep 28 and i was equally shocked. Like Mariko's father's whole speech about how he thinks of himself a good person despite:

● leaving his wife and child for a former "adult" actress

● hardly communicating with them it seems (esp. when it comes to the mom)

It genuinely sounds like he gaslit himself and Mariko into thinking he's a good person despite that and feels very self-serving. He doesn't even properly address the fact that he's a huge part of the reason why Mariko hates herself. And while im not done with the series, i can tell that there will never be a deeper conversation about this whole thing and there is, it's gonna paint Mariko's father is a better light. Like, again, you left your family for a former adult actress; you have no legs to stand on.

Tl;dr, Mariko was right about men. Her father is exhibit a, but the show refuses to accept it
