the way granda joe calls james sonš„°
it genuinely warms my heart how the patriarch of the story accepts james as masculine and part of the family.
considering gerry as jamesā parallel, in theory joe should hate james. but he doesnāt. he doesnāt make fun of james even though his friendship with the girls is untraditional. he doesnāt cast james (or clare) out for being gay, even though that was illegal and taboo at the time (yes i know james isnāt actually gay. but i believe in bisexual james and everybody else says it often enough joe may as well think james is).
all of this to say james is loved in derry, and although he is a derry girl through and through, joe makes sure he is seen as an individual too.
even though heās english.
(i will make gifs of all the instances in the near future, give me time or send them my wayš)
