it’s so wild to me when ppl say aroaces are “basically straight” or “straight by default”. i’ve NEVER been romantically and sexually attracted to a man in my whole life. that’s not straight. HOW is that straight? just because i’m also not romantically or sexually attracted to women either? being straight doesn’t mean you AREN’T attracted to ppl of the same sex, it means you ARE attracted to ppl of the opposite sex. i literally don’t know how else to explain it. i have as much in common with straight ppl that lesbians do, which is nothing.

i’m not out here asking for shit except to not be referred to as straight. that’s all i want.

people are so entrenched in heteronormativity they expect you to prove not-straightness in the manner and to the degree they find acceptable because ‘you are straight’ is their baseline

and the weirdest thing is, it’s queer people doing it

It becomes evident that aspec is queer within 60 seconds of trying to explain asexuality and/or aromanticism to the average straight person.

They do not understand it, they think it’s made up and doesn’t exist, they think it’s weird, they say “I could never”.

Which is where the entire concept of queer came from.

Queer is what we got called for existing and behaving differently from the norm. And cishets think we aspecs are really fucking confusing and weird.

The simple fact that it’s something we have to explain and correct a misassumption on (that we’re allo) makes us queer, by definition.

(And the same is true of polyamory and kink.)
