Some concept tees which will be printed this week! Available to buy in the next couple of days. I will post a link shortly!Â
I'm a bit obsessed with wearable technology at the moment! I came across this article this morning and had to share. Recent pioneers in wearable tech allow shipyard workers in South Korea to perform their jobs with maximum efficiency. Robotic exoskeletons enable workers to bear loads of up to 30KG comfortably.
It is incredible to see how wearable technology is proliferating through numerous fields and it's different applications in context. This kind of technology could eventually be used to aid individuals with physical disabilities or perhaps be utilized on a more commercial level.Â

INTIMACY 2.0 is a wearable tech dress that turns transparent once it detects arousal
This is a great example of how technology is proliferating through contemporary culture - specifically fashion. While ideas are predominantly conceptual at present, wearable technology has inevitably undergone huge development over the past couple of decades. This idea may be far from perfect in a practical sense, however, specific technicalities of the garment are impressive! Future prospects are exciting - with some fine-tuning, interactive clothing could facilitate a heightened experience of an immediate environment.Â
I have been neglecting my blog recently so here is an update of some of my recent work. I have developed initial design ideas taken from my concept of portraying a 'Modern Identity' and settled on a final line-up. It is important to note a few minor details have been adjusted to ensure my collection reflects a cohesive aesthetic.Â
Here is my first complete silk shirt in addition to my first look at a local fundraising event. It is extremely exciting seeing my concept evolve into a collection! Just over a month until the graduate show!Â
Language as technology
Written word and language hold the key to separating physical from more transcendental human attributes - allowing thought processes and situations to be taken out of context or a fixed/immediate time frame. With this in mind, language could be described as a form of technology. Language facilitates the intersection of ideas, which inevitably aids cultural development. Digital interfaces and social media, elaborate on these existing paradigms; engineering communication for greater effect.Â

Dissertation Ideas
I would like to begin by presenting a clear definition of technology with an emphasis on its relativity and significance to fashion practice. Fashion practice is informed by popular culture and relative social paradigms – it is therefore undeniable that technology will have a notable impact on remodeling the industry as we enter the digital age. Technology holds the potential to entirely redefine perceptions of identity as well as the way in which we interact with our bodies/communicate with others. It is irrefutable that the human body and the impending propagation of prosthesis, cyborgs and artificial intelligence, must be explored in great detail in order to establish a clear distinction between biological life forms and intelligent technology. Covering these topics will allow me to facilitate further discussion encompassing the themes of technological integration, the proliferation of online presence/avatars, as well as identity/racialism and gender stereotyping in cyberspace. Ultimately, I hope to construct arguments from both utopian and dystopian perspectives to achieve a well-informed conclusion concerning the consequences of the utilization and integration of advanced technology.
Identity is perhaps the most significant theme that resonates throughout my research. I feel inclined to explore various theories in an attempt to rationalize human communication within the ‘real’ world, as well as simulated identities in cyberspace. Providing that there is a disparity in the representation of individuals in either circumstance, it shall become apparent that a divergence in social constructs is prevalent. The portrayal of identity currently lingers in a transitional limbo, as intelligent technologies are still relatively naïve. However, these fractured interpretations are potentially the predecessors to a more intelligent and comprehensive identity, with the evolution of the ‘cyborg’. I intend to pose my own philosophies regarding the influence of this development on the fashion industry, in suggesting a reformation appropriate to hypothetical constructs.
An obvious consequence of technological progression is heightened surveillance. This can be discussed from a multitude of angles. I feel it is absolutely imperative to explore the positive and negative repercussions of surveillance to incite utopian/dystopian ideologies.Â
The working title of my third year project is ‘Fantasy Landscapes’ which encompass the themes of globalization (specifically cultural integration), fashion for the future, and the implications of technological advances regarding a paradigm shift in perceptions of body image. I am primarily focused on creating a ‘Modern Identity’ through cohesively combining contrasting sources to create an aesthetic that reflects an effective unison of juxtaposing cultures. These sources include architecture, print design, ceramics/ornament and art. I have been selective with my primary sources, choosing visual imagery that connotes previously established identities or cultures. I have used the primary stages of my design journey to inspire print work, which has been integrated and digitally manipulated to feature in my collection. I resolutely believe this concept has holds a great deal of relevance in modern society as a single person’s identity becomes increasingly difficult to define. A key focus became exuding an urban quality throughout my work – evocative of a change in society and how current generations conform. In essence, I hope to display a take on modern identity from a global perspective.Â
