Nyxwings, a place of wonder and magic, takes great pride in its reasonable yet essential set of rules that prioritize the safety and well-being of its staff, students, visitors, and familiars. While these rules ensure a secure environment, they also encourage personal growth, self-expression, and the development of manners and respect.
💫 Students are to remain within the specified Nyxwings grounds, with exceptions granted only when accompanied by a faculty member or with explicit permission from the Headmaster. Parent or guardian collection is also allowed under specific circumstances.
💫 Third through Seventh Years have the opportunity to leave Nyxwings on designated weekends with a permission slip from their parent or guardian. They may explore Nyxbrooke or venture elsewhere after classes on Friday until curfew, returning to Nyxwings before curfew on the same day. The freedom to explore extends to Saturday and Sunday, spanning from breakfast to curfew.
💫 Visitors, including family members of students and Official Council personnel, must obtain permission from the Headmaster or Deputy Headmaster before entering Nyxwings.
Building Rules at Nyxwings
💫 Students are expected to maintain cleanliness and safety within the school premises, respecting and cherishing their environment. Bullying is strictly prohibited and carries consequences ranging from mild to severe, depending on the number of offenses.
💫 To foster a conducive learning atmosphere, students should refrain from bringing personal items from home that may pose distractions or safety concerns.
💫 Students are encouraged to treat their peers with respect and compassion at all times. If you notice a fellow student struggling, extend a helping hand if possible.
💫 Attentiveness and active listening are paramount in the classroom. Sleeping during class may result in mild disciplinary actions. Following instructions and seeking clarification when needed are essential for a fruitful learning experience.
💫 Students should never hesitate to seek help when needed. If you feel uncomfortable or encounter any challenges, please reach out to a school counselor, who will communicate with the faculty to address the issue promptly.
💫 Respect for others and their property is crucial, encompassing fellow students, faculty members, visitors, and the school spirits. Physical harm or casting harmful magic upon others is strictly forbidden.
💫 Students are not permitted in faculty areas, including the faculty lounge, offices, and classrooms outside of class hours, unless they possess a valid reason or written permission from a faculty member. Lords and Ladies of Covens may enter faculty areas to investigate violations of this rule.
💫 Access to dormitories is strictly controlled, with boys prohibited from entering the girls' dormitories. Spells are in place to prevent any attempts, except in emergency situations involving a Lord of the Coven.
💫 Members of another house may enter a common room that is not their own with the permission of a member from that house. However, this privilege is limited until 30 minutes before curfew (10:30 pm).
The Fairwild Forest Rules
💫 The Fairwild Forest is off-limits to students without a faculty escort due to the presence of redcaps and other mythical creatures known for their hostility and tricks.
💫 Swimming in Shivers Lake is strictly prohibited without faculty supervision.
💫 Boating on the lake requires prior faculty permission. Although the juvenile sea serpent Shivers is friendly, other inhabitants of the lake, such as merfolk and kelpies, along with carnivorous marine plants and the cold itself, can pose potential dangers.
The Pearl Mountains Rules
💫 Scaling the mountain range near the school is strictly prohibited as it is home to Pearl, an iridescent dragon who considers the school her hoard and keeps a watchful eye on the students.
💫 While Pearl is friendly, it is the goats, cliffs, and dislodged boulders that present real hazards.
💫 Pearl occasionally descends from the mountains to visit the school and acquaint herself with new students. As an overseer of safety and holding administrative authority, she is considered an integral part of the school's ecosystem.
Restricted Section of the Library Rules
💫 The Restricted Section is strictly off-limits to students unless they present a signed note from a faculty member, specifying either a specific book or subject. Not all books within the Restricted Section are accessible to students.
💫 Books from the Restricted Section must not be removed from the area and should be utilized within the designated desks provided.
💫 Students are encouraged to use magic primarily for academic purposes or approved extracurricular activities.
💫 Spells relevant to their studies may be cast within classrooms and designated study areas, including Coven Lounge areas and the Grand Ballroom when not used for meals.
💫 Magic unrelated to studies should only be performed with valid reasons, such as quality-of-life spells for cleaning or levitating heavy objects.
💫 Dueling is only permitted on the dueling stage under direct faculty supervision or during dueling club activities.
💫 Students have the right to employ magic for self-defense or during emergencies.
Personal Runic Technology Rules
💫 Rune Phones and other wizarding technology are not allowed during class. However, note-taking on a Runelap (Laptop) or Runetablet (Tablet) may be permitted with professor approval.
School Runedeskies (Computers) Rules
💫 Students must never share personal information with individuals encountered online, particularly when it involves suspicious-looking Leymails (emails).
💫 Students are advised to promptly inform a professor if they come across any uncomfortable or inappropriate content. Cyberbullying or inappropriate graphics are typically filtered or Recantated (firewalled).
💫 Students should not download anything without permission, be it applications or files, as unauthorized downloads may jeopardize the equipment and Leynets (networks).
💫 Students are free to print schoolwork or appropriate personal documents. However, any last-minute printing resulting in late submissions is the student's responsibility.
💫 Settings on school Runedeskies must not be altered without permission, especially those related to safety, website access, and antivirus protection.
💫 Students must submit a form registering their animals with the school, and each animal should have a tag, either on the animal itself or on its cage/tank.
💫 Familiars should remain with their respective students unless otherwise specified, as they play a vital role in alleviating academic stress.
💫 Students from first to sixth year are required to attend all scheduled classes, meals, and assemblies.
💫 Seventh-year students may skip meals and assemblies but must provide valid reasons, such as mental rest, additional studies, or overlapping commitments.
💫 Absences can only be excused with written or verbal permission from the Headmaster or a faculty member.
💫 Nyxwings, as a boarding school, fosters a close-knit community where watchful eyes and tattling children (students, faculty, ghosts, paintings, etc.) make it nearly impossible to escape attention. Skipping classes is bound to be noticed and carries consequences.
💫 While attendance at all meals is expected, enforcement is somewhat lenient. The faculty understands the need for flexibility but also recognizes that skipped meals may provide opportunities for mischief.
💫 During mealtimes, students may sit with friends from any house. However, if issues arise, this privilege may be revoked, and students will be required to sit with members of their own house.
💫 Students must be in their dormitories and in bed by the 11:00 p.m. curfew.
💫 Students are not permitted to leave their Coven Lounge until 6:00 a.m.
💫 Coven Lords and Ladies may be out of bed after hours for scheduled patrol duty. However, they must remain within the castle during patrols.
Decorum and Behavioral Rules
💫 Students must uphold proper decorum and exhibit good behavior at all times. While enforcement is flexible, stricter measures may be implemented when necessary.
💫 During school events or outings, students are expected to remain calm, speak quietly, respond when spoken to by event directors or adults, and maintain good posture and respect throughout.
💫 Swearing, excessive displays of affection, shouting in the halls, vandalism, and fighting are strictly forbidden.
💫 During school events or pep rallies, the audience is expected to sit quietly and attentively, displaying appropriate appreciation. Entering and exiting should be done in an orderly manner.
💫 Alcohol and tobacco are strictly prohibited on Nyxwings grounds. However, Rootwine may be consumed in Nyxbrooke but cannot be brought back to the school.
💫 Natural Vapor (wizard nicotine) and Weeded Florals (witchy weed) are permitted for students with signed permission slips from their parent or guardian, as well as approval from their doctor, recognizing the potential relief they offer for severe anxiety.
At Nyxwings, rules act as guiding stars, ensuring a safe and nurturing environment where students can thrive, explore their potential, and discover the wonders of magic.
