Last year in March we had what 30? 40? cases in Ontario and the entire province was locked down. Not pretend locked down. Legit locked down...online learning, only go out for groceries and essentials, no malls, no shopping, curb site pick-up only, no travel, stay in your own city, one person per household in the grocery store kind of lockdown. Now we have over 3000 cases average in Ontario and we are in a pretend lockdown. I’m frustrated by the selfishness and the entitlement I’m seeing. Mall parking lots should not be full of cars right now. Leisure shopping isn’t necessary. This won’t end until it’s under control, and it won’t be under control until Ford legit locks things down for real. Yes it will hurt, yes it’s frustrating but it’s better having a short term lockdown than a long term drawn out process of continuously dealing with half way measures that don’t really do anything to control cases. Meanwhile variants are now affecting younger completely healthy people in essential service jobs and vulnerable situations in life threatening ways. Vaccines are being distributed at pharmacies in more affluent neighbourhoods in Hamilton instead of widely disrupted down the mountain and downtown in areas with higher case numbers. The social and economic disparities continue to widen, and it breaks my heart.
