⋆˚࿔ Beach Day Confessions

Mike Wheeler x Reader, set after graduation, kissing, swearing, El is still alive bcuz I said so!!

Req. “Would you be open to writing a beach day with the party and Mike finally confesses his feelings to reader” — Anon

Things had been weird between you and Mike.

It wasn’t necessarily anyone’s fault, there was just tension. You had been blaming it on how busy you two had been. With Vecna, the Abyss, Graduation and so on. But now that all of that was over…you had no excuses.

You had all officially graduated from high school only a few weeks ago. You’d all made plans to go to the coast to spend a few days near the beach together before you all went your seperate ways.

Now, you were leaning back on your beach towel next to Will, watching your friends who were all scattered a little further down the beach. Lucas, Max and Dustin were all splashing each other in the water, seeing you could dunk one of the others first.

A little bit closer to you though, was El and Mike, building castles in the sand together. Mike kept glancing up at you from his pile of sand, El flicking his head if he stayed watching for too long.

“Is there a reason he keeps staring at you..?”

Will say up beside you. You looked over at his as he pushed his sunglasses back. You sighed deeply and fell backwards against the towel.

“No. Things have been weird since…all the stuff. Y’know.”

“Uh huh.”

Will have you a look. You gave him one back, confused.

“What?”

“You don’t think he, oh I don’t know, likes you?”

“What?!”

To be honest, the idea wasn’t a totally alien concept to you. You had thought of the probability that maybe he had feelings for you, and that maybe to reciprocated those said feelings, but you never took it too seriously. There had been too much going on.

But now that your mind was clear, the thought had been floating in your head more often.

“Listen, I’m not saying it’s a definite. But those looks aren’t usual friendship looks. I’d know.”

You groaned, sitting up next to your friend and looking down the beach once more. Lucas, Max and Dustin were moving closer to the shore, getting out of the water. El and Mike still sat at their almost dome sand castle.

Fuck it. You stood up, telling will you’d be back, maybe, and headed towards Mike and El.

“Hi.”

“Hey?”

You stood over him and put your hand out for him to take.

“Come in the water with me? El you don’t mind if I steal him for a sec?”

“Take him. He’s ruining my castle.”

You chuckled at your friend, thanking her as Mike pulled himself up, holding your hand. You both walked down to the water in silence. The sun had started to set, the tide had come up a little and the beach was mainly clear of people.

“Fuck, that’s cold!”

Mike stopped in his tracks as he felt the water at his feet. You only laughed, grabbing for his hand and trying to pull himself forward.

“Don’t be a baby, wheeler.”

It was indeed cold, and you were certainly putting up an act just to get him in the water. It worked, so it was worth it. With a loud groan of protest, the boy with black hair came following you.

You both ended up getting waist deep in the water, Mike (you) refusing to get any deeper. You both stayed close, swaying slightly in the waves.

They weren’t big waves, just the kind that begin to form into the typical ones you would see curling at the shore. They carried enough pressure to knock you over, which they did. You fell forward into mikes chest, and he gladly caught you.

You both laughed.

“Sorry.”

“Not your fault.”

He held your arms. You held his shoulders. You looked at each other, at your eyes. His were so deep you found that you could never look away easily.

“Y/n, can I ask you something?”

“What?”

You felt the adrenaline begin to pump to your chest, both of you not moving to let go of each other.

“Hypothetically, what would I do if I wanted to ask a girl out, but she’s way out of my league and she’s so…everything that I’m not.”

“What do you mean?”

He took a deep breath and moved his hands slowly, up your arms to your shoulders, his thumb grazing your neck. You could feel your own pulse quicken.

“Well, she’s kind, and she cares about her friends. She has these eyes that are just, kind of unreal. She looks after people she cares about. She’s just, perfect. Basically.”

He moved his hand to your jaw. You bit the inside of your cheek. This couldn’t be real. What if you haven’t defeated Vecna after all, what if this was one of his visions?

“And I’m not. And I have no clue how to tell her all of that without making myself look like a complete idiot.”

You let out a breath, you were so close to him now, you could feel every minuscule movement of his hand on your jaw. You were lost on what to say, you’d never seen him so focus on something before, so concentrated on each word that left his lips.

“Mike, do I know this girl?”

“Pretty well, yeah. What would she do? When she hears me say all that to her?”

You couldn’t help but laugh softly. He smiled down at you, listening.

“I think she’d be very impressed. She’d think that’s the sweetest thing she’d ever heard.”

You steadily moved your hands, sliding them around to relax behind his neck.

“I also think, that she’d want you to kiss her, if you’re ok with that.”

This was really happening. Your mind and heart were moving at a million miles an hour, adrenaline went through every one of your veins. He leant in closer, smiling.

“I think I’d be ok with that.”

Your first thought was blank when his lips touched yours. Everything froze in that second, closing your eyes. Then when your senses came back, you acknowledged how soft his lips were. You felt how shaky he was, how much he cared about this moment. He pulled back first. You looked at each other again, smiled pulling at both of your lips.

“I think you should kiss her better than that though.”

You grinned as he laughed, his head dipping to rest on your shoulder. You could faintly hear your friends yelling as you started laughing with him.
