Whenever people tell me subs are always superior to dubs, I refer back to this scene
Footage of Marilyn Monroe during the making of The Misfits, 1961.
The Lady of the Dunes
On July 26, 1974, Sandra Lee (who later became a crime writer) and her sister discovered a body while exploring in Provincetown, Massachusetts. The body was of a woman. She was naked, laying facedown on a towel, with a pair of jeans and a bandana under her head.
The damage her body went through was excessive. She was almost completely decapitated, possibly as a result of strangulation, though cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head; several teeth had been removed by her killer and both hands had been cut off, presumably to hinder identification; and she’d been sexually assaulted with a piece of wood, most likely after death.
The woman is described as being between 20 and 49 years of age, approximately 5 foot 6 inches, and weighing around 145 pounds. She had auburn or red hair that was in a ponytail at the time of her death. Her toenails were also painted pink, and she had extensive dental work. Despite many reconstructions of the woman, no match has ever been found and she remains unidentified.
One theory as to her identity is that she was an extra in the 1975 film Jaws, which was filmed in Massachusetts in 1974. The theory sprung when Joe Hill, son of horror author Stephen King, noticed that an extra in the film looked remarkably like the reconstruction of The Lady of the Dunes, and that the extra was wearing jeans and a bandana, just like what was found at the crime scene.
One suspect in her murder is mobster Whitey Bulger, as she resembles a woman seen with him at the time of her death and he was known for removing the teeth of his victims. Another suspect was serial killer Tony Costa, but he was eliminated since he had died before the death of The Lady of the Dunes. Additionally, serial killer Hadden Clark confessed to her murder but it is believed to be a false confession because Clark is a known liar and is also a paranoid schizophrenic.
After over 40 years, The Lady of the Dunes is still unidentified. If you have any information regarding her identity or her murder please call the Provincetown Police Department at 1-508-487-1212 or 1-508-487-1213.
