WARDROBE AESTHETIC : BORIS. 2 / ?
WARDROBE AESTHETIC : BORIS. 1 / ?
we’re dressed in black from head to toe, we’ve got guns hidden under our petticoats.
BORIS - > BEDROOM.
MATRYOSHKA DOLL - the russian nesting doll that is sitting on top of the television. the nesting doll is associated with the importance of family and fertility. they are a traditional representation of a mother carrying a child in womb and can be seen as a lineage. the particular doll resting on boris’ television set is the only thing out of his mothers belongings that he has kept with him through each move he has made with his father around the world. this russian nesting doll was likely passed down from boris’ maternal grandmother to his mother. despite his blasé attitude towards his mothers death, this remains one of the few things that he keeps in memory of her.
VIRGIN MARY CANDLE - despite not being a religious person, he holds onto this candle. not for any religious purposes but rather because the candle was gifted to him by lux lisbon ( @stohnefox ) in the early stages of their friendship. given the complex feelings that boris has surrounding lux lisbon, it’s something he holds on to. initially, a candle that he did light and use. however, after time, it’s soon been a place that has collected dust and ash from cigarettes.
FLAG OF THE SOVIET UNION - this flag was originally the official national flag of the ‘union of soviet socialist republics’ aka the ussr from 1922 until it was relinquished in 1991. the flag itself emerged during the russian revolution and has also been an international symbol of the communist movement, originally paid tribute to the workers’ revolution. boris’ family originates from the ukraine, upon the border of poland but he did frequently live in other slavic nations which were once apart of the ussr. despite this flag being relinquished and russia and the ukraine having new national flags, this is something he carries with him, often aligning his views on the far left and finding a distaste for the american political environment.
DINOSAUR SKULL - a gift from an old friend when he was living in russia. it’s fake, obviously. he’s kept it since after losing contact with that friend. it holds memories of a childhood with slightly simpler times. this skull will eventually be lost in one of his many moves, soon losing it’s importance.
LUGGAGE TRUNKS - boris doesn’t have many belongings, especially once he ends up leaving his fathers house. eventually, he loses those trunks and mainly carries the few belongings he has within garbage bags and his backpack because it is easier to move around. for the longest time, the few belongings he did have, were placed within those trunks and as we can see, they became furniture / stands to place items on. while the trunks themselves are old, they don’t hold that much significance to him.
OTHER NOTES - boris is not a neat person. clothing can be seen in disarray through his room on the floor, he doesn’t have much in the way of clothing and rotates through them until they’re washed or he steals something else for himself. he has very limited belongings. empty beer bottles are frequently left on his nightstand or on the floor, along with cigarette butts on his nightstand. he doesn’t particularly illuminate his living space, keeping lights dim with lamps and other lights.
