Christian Dior Prefall 2014 collection
This Rick Owens collection really, truly renewed my hope in the fashion industry. I have neglected fashion as of late due to the very reason that it eroded my self confidence, thrived on others' cultures and appropriating them, excluding PoC just to name a few factors. I became fucking tired of the same, absolute same shit that no longer fascinated me.
Rick Owens' collection was incredible. Dancing, chanting, women of colour, women that were not size 0, fierce women. I loved it all. It was more than a breath of fresh air to me; it was a much need storm relieving an endless tyrannical, oppressive and exclusive drought that is the fashion industry. Although this isn't necessarily the end of problematic issues, and is far, far from perfect, it is a crucial step towards representation of all women and broadening the category of "beauty" (not that anyone should strive for 'beautiful' if that's not what they're about).
I hope more designers seek change, promote it and see what power they hold for the benefit for people everywhere.
