RoundAbout Kits

RoundAbout Kits is a community project taking place in Kitsilano, Vancouver throughout Spring/Summer 2013. Green Streets Gardeners and Kits residents are invited to join RoundAbout Kits as we explore ways to enhance the neighbourhood with bird and bee-friendly structures, eco-art and community-building pieces.

We had amazing weather for our 2013 RoundAbout wrap-up on Aug. 25. About a dozen walkers joined the group as we toured through Kits, visiting pallet herb gardens, bee and butterfly-friendly bulge gardens and a gorgeous roof-top garden at Linden Place. Thanks to all who came out!

Join the RoundAbout team for our final gathering of the summer on August 25. As an Earthwalks Vancouver participant, we'll take a walk to visit some of the Green Streets gardens tended by volunteers in traffic circles and corner bulges around Kitsilano and see how gardeners are encouraging bee and butterfly habitat and building community connections through creative use of their gardens.

What a beautiful day at Vancouver's Khatsahlano festival July 13! The RoundAbout crew were on hand to chat about our various gardening projects and let people know about the second round of our mini-grants. Check out the snazzy blue tees complete with the RoundAbout Kits logo stitched on! A workshop participant donated the shirts so that we look amazing when we're out and "About"

RoundAbout Kits Grants

Thanks to funding from the City of Vancouver and Vancouver Foundation, RoundAbout Kits has money available for individual projects that align with our goal of making local gardens more bee, butterfly and community friendly.

Up to $100 is available for each project. Anyone in Kitsilano can apply, provided that the project meets our funding criteria:

The garden is accessible to the public (this can include gardens on private property, where non-residents are encouraged and welcomed into the space).

The project will be completed by September.

The project will enhance the garden in one or more of the following ways:

By making it more bee-friendly (eg. mason bee houses)

By making it more butterfly-friendly (eg. boxes for flowers)

By encouraging community connections and interactions between neighbours (eg. signs, seed/book swap stations)

It was a beautiful day for Kits Car Free Day. The RoundAbout crew were at the block party on 1st & Trafalgar, painting garden signs and chatting about mason bees.

Scroll through for pics from our first RoundAbout workshop held on May 25 at the Trafalgar Co-op common room. Ten participants plus five organizers -- a pretty good turnout! We chatted about our gardens and brainstormed ideas for using signage as a way to welcome others into the garden spaces we tend.

First RoundAbout Workshop is Saturday, May 25!

Come and work on making your garden more community (and bee/butterfly) friendly. Join us at the co-op on 5th & Trafalgar for the first workshop in the RoundAbout Kits series - meant for anyone who’s interested, and especially RoundAbout (traffic circle) gardeners who’d like to enhance their gardens for community building and bee and butterfly habitat. We’ll be creating signage for our gardens and brainstorming ideas for further sessions.
