might just start over. keep a photo diary & etc. cheers
This was very lovely to wake up to. It's completely legit, in the replies people posted videos and pictures of the 'walk for El Vaquita', the fake protest to get El Vaquita desperately needed medical attention.
The comments in the tweet lead to celebration of a another Chilean comrade doggo named Negro Matapacos. And this is exactly the kind of education I want this month.
The recent uprising in Chile is full of references to the beloved Negro Matapacos, who accompanied protesters for many years. As his legend
I love him. also

the meaning of life is summed up in the story elmer bendiner tells about how when he was a pilot the second world war, his plane was hit with a barrage of anti-aircraft fire from the nazi forces but the crew survived. and how everyone was saying it was a miracle until they investigated the shells that got in the fuselage and found there was no explosive charges in any of them. in one they found a note scribbled in czech, written by the person who had been forced to manufacture the shells, and it just said ‘this is all we can do for you now’.
every time i see someone acting tough online about how harm reduction is pointless and in some convoluted way worse than doing nothing i think about that person in some soul-destroying nazi factory in occupied czechoslovakia removing all of the explosive charges from their anti-aircraft shells and writing a note that they must have known would probably never be read, just to say ‘this is all we can do for you, and we’re going to do it’. they are trying to make us kill you and we refuse. i do think that maybe it’s all going to be okay.
pulled over to give a homeless guy some cash on the side of the road today and he pointed to my bigfoot air freshener and asked if i believed in ‘that guy’ and no, i don’t, i have the air freshener because my last car before this one (the pt cruiser) belonged to a woman named tracy who loved bigfoot and had a whole collection of bigfoot stuff including the air freshener and she died of cancer which is why her husband was selling me her car and i figured, hey, might as well keep the air freshener in her honor. and then when i had to junk the last car i couldnt bring myself to get rid of it. so now it’s just hanging off my rear view mirror again. which is probably a worse reason to have an air freshener than believing in bigfoot.
This is the meanest shit you’ve ever said to me Bob
My.Kali: "is the first LGBTQ+ webzine for and from the Middle East and North Africa. they aim to demonstrate diversity and fight repressive forms and norms with art therapy, photography, and visual innovation. The magazine tackles issues related to women’s rights, personal politics, gender related matters, freedom of speech, alt-communities, and new media. This allows for a window of hope where societies’ minorities can find solidarity, offering a safe atmosphere of reassurance and certainty in the midst of regional turmoil."

Something like this would be so colossally helpful. I'm sick and tired of trying to research specific clothing from any given culture and being met with either racist stereotypical costumes worn by yt people or ai generated garbage nonsense, and trying to be hyper specific with searches yields fuck all. Like I generally just cannot trust the legitimacy of most search results at this point. It's extremely frustrating. If there are good resources for this then they're buried deep under all the other bullshit, and idk where to start looking.

May I present to you, nationalclothing.org?
It doesn't have everything, but it's still my first source when researching traditional clothing from other cultures.
There's also this resource on historical fashion: Claire’s Historical Fashion Reference & Resources
another addition as far as physical media goes there is the encyclopedia of national dress (that i still need to buy myself bc this kind of thing is super important to my sort of fantasy designing) but yes i do agree i wish there was EVEN MORE documentation on this

I might work a little more on these, since I have until the 19th to finish, but in any case, for my Art final (my last final before graduating) we had to do a 5 piece series on whatever subject/topic we desired. So I recreated stock photos of Mexico (that I purchased), using Indigenous textiles.
Despite my professors thoughts, I made the choice to stick to one indigenous group per piece, as I don’t enjoy the common view of seeing indigenous groups as a monolith.
Putting a hardstyle track over this Bollywood movie worked amazing [x]

@gay-impressionist and everyone else who might be curious: it’s all about the control they have over their muscles. Georgian dancers are renowned (at least in the theatre world) for having some of the most complex footwork— while the males are supposed to dance mostly through their feet and keep their upper half as rigid as possible, the female dancers are supposed to express themselves through their hands and heads only, their skirts concealing their walking/gliding.
What is happening is that Georgian dancers and ballet dancers are pretty similar when it comes to the effort they must use in order to show themselves as graceful on stage as possible, but while ballet dancers are using pointes to hold themselves on their toes during certain movements, female Georgian dancers wear shoes that have a bit of high heels and are, more or less, tiptoeing across the stage, with steps as small and quick as possible so the audience doesn’t have a chance to pay attention to the way their skirts spin everytime they take another step.
tl;dr The secret is that they are tiptoeing as fast as they can in the rythm of the music while keeping up the appearance that they are gliding across the floor.
I am not a Georgian, nor have I trained myself in their traditional dances, but I appreciate their culture’s dances so I thought I might explain what is actually happening (sorry if that didn’t make too much sense, I am not a professional dancer, just a very observant admirator).
That is very cool, and the explanation makes the dancing even more impressive! Thanks for the info!
On a similar note, when I read about some character moving so smoothly they appear to glide over the floor, I will be imagining they’re taking tiny fast steps.
