Double DD’s.
Brother duo film makers is where it’s at. From The Duplass Brothers (yes I’ve mentioned them again) to the Duffer Brothers (Stranger Things), to the Dardenne brothers - dynamic, sibling duos (beginning with D’s it seems) are where it’s at.
Where my sister duo’s at? Please send some my way if there are any you like!
There’s something super cool about seeing the word ‘brothers’ written at the end of a credit. Sisters would be equally amazing :) or ‘siblings’. Whatever!
Some dynamic duo’s that i’m into/want to get into/explore :
DUPLASS BROTHERS
DUFFER BROTHERS
DARDENNE BROTHERS
COEN BROTHERS
NORA AND DELIA EPHRON
WACHOWSKIS...
You get my drift.

Mumblecore.
Yes this is a word and yes this is the word used to describe a certain genre of film. Who woulda thunk it? I’d be lying if I said I didn’t enjoy this genre of film which is mainly recognised by the likes of Greta Gerwig, the Duplass Brothers, Noah Baumbach to name but a few indie film household lovin’ names.
The official Wikipedia term: which we all know means it’s legit is:
“Mumblecore is a subgenre of independent film characterized by naturalistic acting and dialogue (often improvised), low-budget film production, an emphasis on dialogue over plot, and a focus on the personal relationships of people in their 20s and 30s.”
A few films/programmes (some ended ALAS) that are of this Genre I believe and that I enjoy are:
-Mistress America
-Togetherness (The Duplass Brothers, they can do no wrong in my eyes)
- Transparent - not sure this qualifies but it’s hands down one of the best written things out there right now.
-Frances Ha.
There are many many more!
A great article on it on the BFI website -

TICKLED PINK.
Lake Hillier, otherwise known as Pink Lake is on the edge of Middle Island off the West coast of Australia. It is one of the many Pink lakes found across the world as a result of algae that produces carotenoids, such as Dunaliella salina, a type of halophile green micro-algae especially found in sea salt fields.

PURE SIN. Making your inner devil truly healthy.
Well well well. It was only a matter of time before I wrote a post about my incredible mother.
She is a force of nature and has recently launched a vegan/raw/refined sugar free/gluten free dessert company. Ladies and gents I give you...Pure...Sin. Get it?!
I could write for days on why my mother is such a ridiculously incredible human being but for now I will focus on her incredibly delicious treats. After contracting Lymphedema 20 years after having cervical cancer, my mother, the brave woman that she is - embarked on another health battle that life had thrown at her. Being the graceful lady that she is, she took it in her stride, constantly apologising for the slightest complaint.
The truth is, it hasn’t been easy, although she has made it look so. Having gone from being someone who really does have the most beautiful feet I’ve ever seen! (she still does) but from having been someone who always had presentable feet and like most of us - never thought twice about wearing sandals in the summer, apart from the tiny worry that our feet may be not in acceptable displaying condition - she now has to wear a compression sock. All the time. Every day. It is incredibly tight and thick and on a hot day is enough to put you in a foul mood, but being the trooper she is - she has come to terms with the fact that her new wardrobe consists of beautiful trainers now and less of the Manolo’s she has been tendering to since their purchase 10 years ago.
This new journey she is on, lead her to putting her culinary skills to remarkable use. Now I know everyone loves their mama’s cooking but when I say mine is an insatiable cook, I really am NOT lying. She really was given the magic touch, passed down from my grandmother, the real OG.
Mum’s troubles with her leg lead her to research the condition that is Lymphedema and with everything in life, what you ingest is truly so important and affective on your mind and body. Now for someone with a sweet tooth - the thought of never being ‘naughty’ again, in addition to having a tight sock on your leg all year round is not really the path you may have been hoping for.
Enter Pure Sin, the treats that taste sinful but are made up of raw ingredients and I am not being biased when I say are the tastiest damn things I have ever eaten. This is coming from a junk food addict. A connoisseur if you will. She has nailed it. They are bitesized and are the perfect answer to that craving one gets after a meal.
Pure Sin currently has three flavours. They are bitesize and come in cup form. These flavours are:
1. Peanut Butter and Chocolate Cup (even tastier than a reese’s cup and with no refined sugar, it exists people!!!!!)
2. The vanilla cheesecake.
3. The raw chocolate cheesecake.
My mother and I are quite the cheesecake snobs so you can imagine what my face looked like when she told me that she was creating a ‘vegan cheesecake’. I’m proud to say that it is something I willingly eat all the time and knowing the health benefits over a New York cheesecake leaves me feeling all smug after I’ve consumed about 4 of them, they’re are only 95 cals a cups ;)

DUPLASSED.
I give you Mark and Jay Duplass .a.k.a my favourite brother-duo-writers-actors-producers-general badasses-who are also really cute.
They have their own production company called ‘The Duplass Brothers’, go figure - but they also dabble in all aspects of film making. As a young actor they are very much an inspiration to me. It’s also nice to have a partner in crime, especially one that as a birthright probably loves you.
Mark has a recurring role on the Mindy Project and now is one of the main characters in ‘Togetherness’ which is his and Jay’s HBO show, and Jay is the son of his transgender parent Moira in the amazing Transparent. Both are fantastic shows if you haven’t watched either - I highly recommend them both.
These two are a great inspiration in terms of making your own work and getting it out there, not to mention the fact that they have produced so many things you are likely to have heard of.
Here are just a few of their credits for one reason or another:
- The Puffy Chair
-Jeff who lives at Home
-Togetherness
- Cyrus
-The skeleton twins
-Tangerine
The list goes on...
Mark on the left, Jay on the right.
MAN I FEEL LIKE A WOMAN.
Ever since I was a kid I have been very comfortable with my masculine side, with being in my ‘man.’ From a young age I was obsessed with spats (the english turned gangster associated shoes) - not sure where it came from...not to mention tail coats, top hats...the list goes on. Any occasion where this side of my personality may be warranted always brings a smile to my face. I just wanted to take a minute to nod to all the women who made trousers/suits/women dressing in what was typically known for men, GOD DAMN SEXY and not a big deal. Because it shouldn’t be. This is to and for them.
Coco. Marlene.Katharine.Diane. Thank you.
You led the way, effortlessly and fearlessly.
