Tumblr’s violating your privacy by default again

Hey guys, a quick note. Tumblr just added a ‘feature’ that shows if you’re online or not. The only place I see it is in the messenger, though it might be elsewhere. It’s showing a friend as online even though they just have a tumblr tab open that they haven’t looked at in hours. It also shows how long ago they were active. I don’t know how it interacts with the app.

I have a few problems with this:

I personally don’t like the feeling of being stalked

People could actually stalk you

Person A could get mad at Person B because it said Person B was online but they weren’t (and thus didn’t respond) - or just wasn’t up to talking

Person X could message Person Y and get anxious when person Y doesn’t respond, since it says they’re online

I found the place to turn it off in account settings. There’s a section called “Availability” where you can toggle off the functionality.

I’ve been pretty dead and just been putting stuff into my drafts lately (it almost counts 900 lol) and my initial plan was actually to make sure the fanarts aren’t reposts but the thought of having to go through all of that isn’t just overwhelming but also irritates me a lot bc it actually should be normal for them to not be reposts.

In the FMA fandom I see them less frequent than in others but they are still there and just seeing a single one with over 200 notes makes me feel so disgusted.

This also reminded me of how that was the exact reason why I left tumblr for three years and started using twitter which I never stopped using even after I returned to this place. I’ll continue to lurk and update my art blog from time to time but yeah I’ll pretty much continue to be a dead blog except if I feel like tagging stuff again.

I didn’t want to post this yet but I have to post it somehow so I can consider this finished even if it isn’t actually. I just want to stop working on this so I can practice more and if possible stabilize my style into something like this.

I love how this turned out. Of course I heavily used his SSR artwork as reference but still I have so much fun drawing Vane. I freaking love him. He’s so cute.

Hey, I know how you feel! For me I don't think that feeling ever really goes away, because there's always something "better" out there that makes me feel like my art is not that good. But even though everyone out there may not need your art, you do need your art! So yeah, just try to enjoy what you are doing. I fail at that all the time, but yeah.

I need my art huh… That’s a really nice way to approach it actually. For me it’s mostly a stress reliever when things flow nicely while drawing but if they don’t it becomes more of an additional stress factor. But I have been distracting myself since so I feel better already. That’s also the reason why I haven’t seen this reply yet. I guess I need to remind myself to not draw when things don’t go how I want them to go.
