It had been a long night, with both police and fire departments called to a home involving a domestic dispute that had gotten entirely out of hand. After a traumatic few hours, Ezhili left the police station at 3AM, exhausted. It seemed only natural at this point when their cases ended up colliding that she and Roy would finish the night in some terrible twenty-four hour diner, consuming more calories than she could count. They were both choosing to forget the fact that they’d kissed at the annual spirit party, and Ezhili’s mind had been distracted by the fact that she’d been the one to receive the tip about the potential murderer and where to find her, before it had been immediately given to the wolves to make the arrest. Bitter wasn’t a strong enough word. Still, Ezhili found herself with Roy heading to that diner anyway.
“Sorry, we have to close for cleaning soon. But we can do take-out!” The person behind the counter called out as soon as they entered. Ezhili grumbled quietly to herself and walked to the counter anyway, “Your place is close, isn’t it?” Ezhili asked Roy, “I don’t know about you but I don’t fancy eating a burger and drinking wine out of a bag on a bench. It’s my job to tell those sorts of people to move along normally.” She muttered and turned to order her food. It was a lot, but luckily Ezhili was one of those annoying people that burned calories faster than she consumed them. Once they had their food, she turned her attention back to Roy. “So what do you say?”

As expected in a big city, tension befell. It was one of the reason’s why Roy enjoyed the solitude of werewolf-only territory, and if a vampire just so happened to cross into their borders and just so happened to get mauled to death (again), well that was just the natural order of things. However, here, it seemed like the supernatural community was strict on a no contact rule, and Roy made a mental note of it. Not that he had any plans to hunt down others, considering he’d rather keep his business wolf-related, but it was still a good idea to abide by it. Plus, he was still fragile compared to some of these other creatures.
He was happy just pissing on trees and fighting fires and hanging out with the community service group, and Ezhili was on top of that list. They had kissed during the party, and Roy had to admit he kind of liked it. He’d do it again if she was willing, but he didn’t want to seem desperate for it. And when it came time to finally see her again, it was during a particularly rough situation, and one he wasn’t obviously equipped to handle save for being a massive body to keep things from escalating physically again.
By the end of the night, he was glad he got to reconnect with her, even if it was just to do their routinely dining out gig. But, of course, they were late to the punch, and not that it mattered to Roy. He’d eat off the street if it meant he could finally eat. His stomach was rumbling. “While I’d ask you where your zest in life is, sure. We can have an early morning picnic with the crackheads another time” He ordered his food and once they received it, he took the bag from the waitress. “I can’t wait to sit on my couch and take these damn boots off. Hope you like the ambiance of thirteen-hour foot sweat.”
He followed her out of the restaurant and kept in tandem at her side. Like a dog on a leash.
eduardofaukes:
Eduardo snorted at Roy’s absolute hatred. “Don’t sugar coat it will you, Roy.” The omega laughed. As much as Eduardo tended to avoid his own kind, Roy had always been decent to him and given their history, he was one of the very few wolves Eduardo felt he could trust. “Why don’t you? Go build yourself a nice den and hunt deer.” Eduardo was chuckling quietly into his glass, because he could picture it all too clearly.
Eduardo side-eyed the other wolf as he leant in to smell him again. “It has its perks.” Eduardo replied with a shrug, he was a country boy at heart but being in the city was more convenient to be able to make money to support his family, and visit his sister Hannah in the Sanitorium. “Yeah, a few. A few people I’d rather not meet again too.” Eduardo admitted with a small chuckle. “But, uh— I’ve been dating.” The omega admitted, which wasn’t a startlingly piece of information in its own, it was the next piece. “A wolf, actually.”
━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━
“Sugar coating things make things sound too sweet, and y’know I prefer a bite,” he winked. Truth be told, Eduardo was just leagues nicer than Roy was, and while Roy was amiable, he had his limits. Unfortunately, vampires were one of them. Not that he hated the blood suckers, but they always seemed to be the root of problems when it came to living creatures. “Gotta sniff out the territories, first. Don’t want to fight anyone for a hole in the ground, but I will if I gotta.”
He let out a gruffy laugh and took another small sip of his drink. He almost spit it out at the reveal, and he sat up straighter, curiosity painting on his face. “Really! Really? Wow that’s definitely something I thought I’d never hear in a thousand years.” He ran his fingers through his beard. “How did she convince you? Must be something special. Or she’s super hot. Or both?”
layla-kassin:
–
“ Dinosaurs were weak creatures that couldn’t handle a little fire.” Now dragons were more to her liking. Winged and majestic creatures that bend the fire to their will. The demon felt some affinity towards them. “ Gutter dirty secrets that the Tattler will spread around town. You think you can handle it? I will be gentle, promise. Do you want to start or do I?” Two shots were poured and waited for his answer.
━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━
“I don’t know about that. Didn’t you watch Jurassic Park? Made me a fan of spinosauruses....spinosauri? Well, whatever the plural is.” Roy bit his lip and twirled his glass around the bar top as he thought it over. The Tattler must be the supernatural social media around here, but considering that it seemed like more than half of the population was born pre-internet by a few hundred years, he wouldn’t be surprised if it was still on paper. How niche. “Well, I don’t like gentle, but I will say I’m sensitive. So take that as you will.”
He pulled one of the shot glasses toward him. “I guess I can start off small. Give you like a foreplay of an answer and then build from there, yeah? So, my first dirty secret is that when I went to high school, I was part of the memories club. Y’know, had to show a college that I wasn’t some bum, and I was tasked with burying the time capsule. Easy right? ‘Cause I’m a wolf and I got some hella digging claws, but then I forgot to make the map to it’s location. So the class of ‘97′s memories are lost somewhere in the northwestern woods.”
augustine-lycaon:
Augustine’s body language relaxed once he realized who it was, but he still jolted in Roy’s direction, tackling the other wolf in an aggressive fit of frustration. He moved to nip at the other wolf in a display of dominance, even though he had no real intentions of getting into a fight with the other lone wolf. The fuck do you think you’re doing, idiot? Your snout’s not broken. Surely Roy could smell with ease that the tree was spoken for– if the scratches on the tree’s bark weren’t enough of a sign as well. Stop trying to encroach on territory and go find another place to piss, wannabe pack leader. And Augustine genuinely did find it idiotic, wondering if the lone wolf had a death wish. He had been lucky from Augustine’s perspective that he had been fucking with another lone wolf’s markings, versus an alpha associated with a pack.
━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━
Roy let out a yelp, more out of surprise than out of fear. Rolling onto his side, he bared his fangs and licked at them, keeping himself as neutral to his little joke as possible. He wouldn’t show his belly or throat, even if he did find a small air of comfort from the other lone wolf. If Augustine was keen to teach the big puppy a lesson, Roy would defend himself.
He snorted to ease the tension vibrating through his sinews and slapped his paw on the ground again. Damn, you acted like I was being serious! Granted, he was, considering he was testing what he could or could not do around these hills. It was apparent that he jumped a little too close to the fire. Slowly and with his teeth still on display and ears pinned to his neck, he eased himself up, haunches still close to the ground. He was trying to show he was sorry without being too submissive. Can I at least mark the one next to yours? I almost pissed myself when you came barrelin’ through, tough guy.

“ Did that just happen? Or am I having hallucinations?” He wasn’t getting younger, no matter his youthful appearance. His children did imply that the elf elder could use a break or vacation far away from Vievecor. Humans never stop surprising him. Self-destructive creatures that somehow managed to survive while pushing other species to extinction.
━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━
“Kids these days,” Roy said with a gruffy laugh, and he ran his fingers through his thick beard. The scene had only happened for a split second. A young man with long, curly hair streaked through the crowd in a bright red men’s monokini, a football helmet, and his skin was painted with the local college’s colors. A trail of fully clothed men followed him with their phones out, all chanting what Roy assumed was the mascot. He sniffed the air. “Yep, definitely alcohol was involved in this stunt. They reek of it. The football team must be amazing here, and if not, at least the fans have fun.”
beni-flores:
@vievecorcitystarters
“Have we met before? I don’t think I would have forgotten a face like yours,” Beni asked smoothly, flashing a charming smile at the stranger. The line may have been cheesy, but he sold it with confidence and ease, able to make it appear far more genuine than it often was. He was determined to get them to open up a bit in order to get to know them better– including what they could ultimately do for him. “I’m Benigno, but friends call me Beni.”
━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━
“If I had a nickel for every time I heard that pick up line, I would have no nickels,” Roy replied merrily, flashing a genuine smile back. “Sorry to say, buddy, but I don’t actually swing for the bats. Only the bases. If you get my drift.”
Even so, Roy couldn’t help enjoy the stroke of his ego. “Nice to meet ya. I’m Roy. My friends call me Roy. Or they would if I had any friends. You new in town or somethin’?”
eduardofaukes:
“Not sure that’s how alcohol works, Roy.” Eduardo huffed a laugh, but was glad when he didn’t force a shot down him. After his last drunken escapades he didn’t really want to have a repeat of it for Esme’s sake. “C’mon, vampires aren’t that bad.” In fact Eduardo had dated a few of them in his life, mostly because it felt like the easiest way to avoid his own kind. “And if anyone’s going to get caught stealing a ham from a burning building, it’s you.” The omega chuckled, “I smell different? Don’t think so. Maybe your nose is finally broken from all that smoke inhalation.” Eduardo shrugged, though Roy would probably be surprised to learn that Eduardo had willingly been on a date and smitten with another wolf. “How’ve you been finding it so far? Managed to find some people to put up with you yet?” Eduardo grinned to at least show that he was teasing.
━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━
“Shh, let me believe anyways,” Roy said with mirth. Even so, his nose wrinkled at the idea of being friends with a vampire. He didn’t hate them. Not really. They had to live, for lack of a better word, like everyone else, but he couldn’t tell Eduardo how many times he had ran out stray bats from his territory up north. He hated the way they smelled and made a mess of everything, and if people were killed in the forests, they weren’t blaming vamps. They were blaming bears and big wolves like himself. “Eh, I don’t really trust ‘em. Just glad they don’t have a reason to leech off of me, y’know. They just smell like shit.”
He laughed loudly. “It ain’t stealin’ if you are helping. Like honorary payment. And hams are expensive these days. Have you seen the price of a flank. I’d rather just go hunt my food like some caveman.”
He leaned in closer to inhale the omega’s scent. Yeah, something definitely was different, but to be fair, Roy hadn’t smelled him in years. Age and time did things to scents, and Roy wouldn’t doubt that his years fighting fires made his nose wonky. He leaned back and took another sip of his beer. “It seems cool. Definitely a far cry from what I’m used to. Can’t smell the trees or the weather here because everything is so overwhelming. Can’t believe you talked me into coming. But, I’ve met some cool folks. Nothing cemented, though. How about you?”
augustine-lycaon:
Augustine let out a rather pleased howl as he took off into the woods. It was almost sunrise– nearing time to shift back. The night had been pleasantly exhausting though, spending most of it running when he wasn’t curled up by his favorite tree, which had just barely escaped the barrier magic of the closed off area of the woods. He had been headed back to said tree– his clothing tucked high into one of its branches, when the wolf spotted a figure near the tree as well. His tree. He immediately became more defensive, growling as he approached and their figure became closer. Augustine wasn’t deaf– he knew he was an easy suspect after the recent murder of a vampire at the hands of a supposed wolf. He was innocent. But that certainly wouldn’t change other’s opinions and assumptions, leaving him slightly on edge and rather defensive when it came to unexpected surprises as of late. The lack of space to run due to the barrier had left him feeling even more territorial of the space than prior, and visitors were both unexpected and not typically welcome.
━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━
Roy had had such a lovely moon time. He dug up roots, terrorized a family of bunnies, rolled in dirt, and sang to the stars. In the expanse of the werewolf territory, apparently confined due to some murdered vampire (who cares they were already dead anyways?), he was surprised he only came across one solo wolf. A young female who accepted his play request, and the two took turns chasing each other and nipping at flanks until it was time to move on. He hoped to see her again.
Closer to dawn, he took the liberty to sniff out any remaining places he may have missed, and lo and behold, he found another wolf’s tree. The scent of the marking was familiar. Too familiar, and Roy yipped in delight. He knew he’d find Augustine’s eventually!
The wolf glanced around him before he hiked a hind leg to tell the other wolf he found it. In retrospect, he had a desire to take the territory, as in his nature, but mostly this would be as a joke more than anything. But before he could mark it, a large, white wolf was rushing toward him. Roy jumped back, baring his teeth in both defense and in embarrassment. Easily caught.
He wagged his tail and stuck out a paw, slapping it to the ground as if to tell Augustine to calm down. Hey, buddy. Where you been this whole time?
augustine-lycaon:
Augustine couldn’t help his amusement at the other wolf’s latter comment, lips breaking into a thin lipped smile. The man obviously had no clue who he was, or probably wouldn’t have cracked such a joke. “Nah you’re not my type,” he reassured in jest. “Now witches on the other hand…” He winked as he reached for his drink to take another sip. “No… Us loners don’t have much, do we? Not even enough to fight over,” Augustine added softly with a sigh, mildly concerned as he watched how quickly the other alpha was tossing back drinks. “Hey–” His voice rose slightly, looking to get Roy’s attention as he gestured to the drink. “What’s your hurry, hm?”
━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━
Roy’s unease dissipated briefly at the other wolf’s smile, as small as it was. That was a good sign to say the least, and even more so when Augustine joked. Humor was easier for Roy to understand, and his shoulders relaxed. “Damn and here I thought big, beefy, and hairy was everyone’s type in some way,” he quipped. He hummed at the question, unsure how to answer it. As a loner, there was so much to lose and everything to gain, and Roy liked to focus on the latter. “Less to worry about, I suppose, but being alone ain’t all that it’s cracked up to be, y’know.”
The walls came back up the moment Augustine raised his voice, and Roy stifled a growl. He gripped his glass tighter, eyes looking down to his feet like a child who got caught. “I just like drinkin’.”
makena-harris:
“Are we gonna see who gets floored first? ‘Cause I’m pretty sure I can keep up. I might not look it, but I’ve had a few decades worth of drinking in me,” Makena responded with a wink. She made grabby hands when the bartender returned with a bottle and watched as the man poured them their next round of shots. A laugh sounded out at his description and that really only meant that he was a werewolf. Or just someone with a fondness for streaking.
“Not goats, but I’ve woken up in some strange places before. It usually involves me being in a tree,” she grinned as she pulled her next shot towards her and lifted the glass to his. “I’m Makena, by the way. Cheers!”
━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━
“You’re short and tiny, so I bet it’s you. I’m like a big, toasty bear. I burn through alcohol pretty fast,” he replied with a challenging smile. It was weird not having to hide what he was or dance around the idea of having to disappear from society during full moons.
“Ah, a druid. Yeah, don’t be surprised that I know that word and can guess what you are by your smell.” He took his shot and clinked it against hers. “I’m Roy. Here’s to a budding friendship.”
ezhiliparekh:
Ezhili’s lips curved into a slow, mildly flirtatious smile. “As if I would waste my handcuffs on you, Roy.” She teased him before she pushed one of the tequila shots toward him. She shook the salt into her wrist, “Cheers.” There was a mischievous glimmer before he tongue swiped across the salt on her wrist and she swiftly followed it with the shot. In her opinion, tequila was the devil, but that wouldn’t stop her shotting it. She sucked the lime juice and discarded it into the empty shot, “Why did you pick tequila of all the shots?” Ezhili laughed at him. “I think we should play a game with the rest.”
━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━
“I’m a fantastic time killer, though. Do it anyways,” he replied, winking at her. He took his shot with all the manly grace of a frat boy in a circle of his friends. He chose not to use salt, and while he normally shot tequila straight, he did enjoy citrus. He sucked on his lime and discarded it in the empty glass.
“Man, you took that like a champ. I chose it because I wanted to see your tequila face. You can figure out a lot about a person by they face they make when they shoot tequila.” He smiled and leaned his elbow on the bar. “What game are ya thinking?”
esmeraldabheriya:
-
Given the nature of the spirit party, Esme felt safe enough spilling secrets about who she was. There was no need to hide when everyone else at the party was some form of supernatural creature. “I thought I’d gotten too old for shots,” she admitted. Age was starting to catch up with her now and Esme wasn’t ashamed to admit it. “Just one?” she asked. The wolf looked like he was ready to drink anyone under the table who dared give into the peer pressure.
“I think it’s supposedly not healthy, though that depends on your definition of healthy,” she replied, shrugging her shoulders. Now she was close to the bar, she glanced at what was on offer before pointing to an expensive looking bottle of tequila. Waving over a bartender, she gave them a friendly smile before giving her order. “A shot of that for me and my new friend.”
━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━
“Nah, you’re never too old. At least not in the moment. The next morning might be a different story.” He rubbed his hands together at her question and gave her a cheeky, challenging smile. “Yeah, just one. I would try and convince ya to do more, but I still gotta do all the fun stuff. Also, I don’t think it would be kind of me to stumble drunk on someone having a moment at the river.”
He probably still would anyways. He had a lot of lanterns to light and to yell at for those spirits leaving him.
“I wouldn’t say I’m any bit healthier or unhealthier. I’m just average health, but I do like to mess with folks, so they probably consider me toxic.” When the shot reached them, he lifted his glass up to her to recite a quick cheer. “Here’s to those who wish us well. All the rest can go to hell.”
lillian--reed:
His joke earned him the quirking of her lips. “It’s just harder to tell who’s done with their partying days, if we all look young forever,” she responded, laughing a little. She wasn’t sure if she would join him, even if she was young enough to be interested in partying, but she may have entertained the idea a little more seriously. She lifted her glass with him, nodding her head before taking a larger than customary gulp of her wine. She could, and would, at least do that.
She couldn’t tell if he was just restless or if he was thinking of a polite way to excuse himself for more lively company. Lillian wasn’t entirely sure of the answer at his next inquiry, honestly, but since he hadn’t insulted her, she was willing to linger awhile longer. “Not a lot,” she admitted. She would not be admitting she had been skulking around and making a list of people to avoid. It’d bring up more questions than she wanted to answer. “I normally release a lantern before the night is over, but I have time. I am… honestly somewhat scared of the illusion places, but if you wanted company and didn’t have anyone else, I would give it a try.”
━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━
“Ah, yeah. I didn’t think about that,” he nodded, running his hand over his chin. Though, he wasn’t sure if he should tell her that from what he has seen in his short life (short in terms of wolf years), supernaturals tended to party the hardest. Maybe it was the near immortality they all seemed to share, even if his kind and many others were much more fragile than they appeared.
He smiled when he saw her drink from her cup. At least she was humoring him, even though she was hard to read. Though, her admittance made him blink. “You’re scared? What do you have to be scared of in there? It’s all fake shit, I’m sure. Bet it’s like a haunted house.”
augustine-lycaon:
Augustine resisted rolling his eyes, not feeling inclined to explain his drinking habits, nor his vices, to a stranger. He took a sip of his non-alcoholic drink, asking, “You always nosey with folks you just meet, or do shot just make you chipper?”
━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━
Roy eyed the white-haired wolf carefully, but despite his nature, he doubted the other would find competition in him. Maybe. Possibly...
If he was an alpha, and a big one at that, he could easily take top spot on brute strength alone.
After a moment, Roy shrugged and finished his drink. As if the bartender knew he was going to ask, another slid to him. “Both, actually, but maybe the excitement of a party is getting to my head. Plus, it ain’t every day I get to meet another loner who isn’t trying to rip my throat out.”
