Hanzo Hasashi, Bi Han and Kuai Liang. Also known as Scorpion, Sub-Zero and Tundra.
All three characters are connected by a very tragic story that happened because of evil demon sorcerer Quan Chi.
Hanzo Hasashi was a member of Japanese ninja clan called Shirai Ryu. Bi Han and Kuai Liang were members of Chinese ninja clan called Lin Kuei. Both clans didn’t have stable relationships. And this is exactly what Quan Chi used for his game.
Quan Chi disguised himself as Bi Han and in this form he slaughtered all Shirai Ryu clan. He also killed Hanzo Hasashi’s wife and son. And then he finished Hanzo Hasashi himself. Quan Chi then resurrected Hanzo Hasashi as Netherrealm’s demon warrior known as Scorpion, who was fill with desire of revenge on Bi Han.
So during the tournament, that happened in the first Mortal Kombat game, Scorpion “avenged” his family and clan and killed Bi Han, who was fighting as Sub-Zero in the tournament. But it wasn’t the end - it was only the beginning. Quan Chi resurrected Sub-Zero as Noob Saibot, making him as another warrior of Netherrealm who is controlled by Quan Chi and his deception.
During Mortal Kombat tournament in Outworld, that happened in second game, Kuai Liang went for the search of Shang Tsung to uncover the truth about his brother Bi Han. And even though his original nickname is Tundra, he took his brother’s nickname Sub-Zero to honor his memory and also to draw attention to himself from the murderer of his brother.
In the new timeline, that happened because of Raiden’s time travel after Armageddon, Kuai Liang was captured by his clan during Outworld’s tournament. A little about that: Lin Kuei’s grandmasters decided to turn their students into cyborgs, thinking that technology combined with skills of a ninja can create an unstoppable killing machine. This idea wasn’t so well received by Tundra and his best friend Smoke. They ran from their clan and went to the Outworld’s Mortal Kombat tournament. Unfortunately for them “no one leaves Lin Kuei alive”. In the original timeline Lin Kuei captured Smoke and turned him into cyborg, while he sacrificed himself to save his best friend Tundra. But when Raiden started disrupting the flow of time, he saved Smoke from this fate, but instead of him Tundra was captured and turned into a cyborg.
This is their story. They once were humans (Bi Han and Kuai Liang were actually cryomancers, descendants of very ancient human race, that has the ability to control ice), but know each of the became a flawed version of themselves.
Hanzo Hasashi became a Netherrealm’s demon Scorpion.
Sub-Zero became a Netherrealm’s demon Noob Saibot.
Tundra became a cyborg.
How their fate turns out this time? I wish I knew. We will discover it only in upcoming Mortal Kombat 10.
