Good morning, I am here to write upon this since I have dreamt/thought of something similar. In another comment, I will post the very short bible-style book I have written in spanish that I will translate to english so you can read it. You and any other that stumbles upon this combination, for this is quite extraordinary.
What you dreamt was a different perspective/definition of the same conundrum: It's about being set to live truly. For some references that don't point too far off:
1. Read the book of Revelations from the bible if you haven't, even if you skim through it.
2. That segment of the paintings where Sans, (the other brother), and Kris were on a bridge reminded me of that painting from Indiana Jones of the Holy Grail and the knights. Where some knights would fall into the abyss while one picked up the grail. To me, that signifies the bridge; That those there were safe, seeing as you are the one that plays as Kris...
3. In the end when it seems like the credits roll, "Chapter X" means from the roman numerals the number 10; One and Zero as an example of life and death. More specifically, the sun and the moon (As you had seen both of the fountains in front of you.)
The dream is segmented to quite the identical chronological order of events from what I have, which is:
A scene of confrontation/judgement (Kris's spiral into painting various pieces), (from the book I have written: 4:2-4:18)
A scene of search (Which I have as that the man has already searched for it.) (Kris's creeping culmination of paintings), (4:7)
A scene of revelation (Kris staring at the world they have created with tears streaming down their face), (4:11)
A scene of arriving to the truth, which would be the "end" (Kris finds the third ending), (4:18)
Some other things that shine out of this is: I have personally thought that there could also be a third that is missing, even though there's two already; Even though there's light and dark. The paintings mean different lives, with the weird route being any single other life instead of the true one that should be lived. The fact that buttercups are poisonous signifies that living any of the other lives (Which would not be the true one. (Partaking in the weird route.)) signifies being dead while being alive.
