The tones of dialing and then the sound of the emergency hotline sprung into the air around the two. After a second, an operator responded with the usual “911, what is your emergency?”
Dialon smirked and grasped the now persistently stinging wound on his arm. He uttered a few quiet things, then looked up at Charlotte as he put his cellphone away. “Perfect. They’re on their way.”
The sound of shouting could be heard from the alley Charlotte was watching, followed by a gunshot and the pained groans of a bum that resided within.
The freelance pulled his new acquaintance down and swore. “Shit…poor timing…”
At his response, she smiled at him and turned back to face him. Her eyes falling to his arm for a moment before she opened her mouth to speak. “We should get somewhere to clean that up before it’s infected.” She suggested, motioning to his arm with her hand.
She hadn’t a second to step forward and look at his arm closer before she heard the loud bang. A squeal left her lips as she was pulled towards the ground. Her head turned to the detective as he swore quietly. “What do you mean poor timing? What happening?” She said, her breathing increasing slightly as she spoke.
"Oh y'know, I was silently hoping we would be in the clear, but they've caught onto me again. How fast can you run, Charlotte?"
Another gunshot rang out and pinged off a nearby metallic surface, followed by an angry voice. "If we let that asshole get away we're screwed!"
