The official online magazine of the Rabindranath Tagore Secondary School. It has been launched to mark the 10th anniversary of the school & it's an opportunity for students and teachers to share their favorite memories as well as to enrich their passion for reading & writing. We do hope that you will enjoy your visit!
Friendship is such a bond
that supports in times of hardships
Friendship is not a single thread
that may be broken by a small threat
To be away from one's friend is
being away from one's own half
To be separated from him
is to be punished by God
In fact a friend is one's life and
a body without life is a knife
A knife that cuts people's bonds
and explodes friendship like a bomb
So better forgive a friend as to err is humane
and to mistake is not insane
A view from the window. The RTSS is located in a serene environment along with the looming Moka range. While we see one side of the mountain, MGI, one among our several sister schools, sees the other.
We had a marvelous Gandhi Day at school today. Apart from the traditional things that we do every year, we innovated this year. The RTSS donated two artificial limbs to the Global Rainbow Foundation -Â thanks to that simple humane gesture at least one person who has lost both his or her legs will be able to walk again.
The feeling today was great. We had nearly 300 guests from Krishnanand Ashram, the paternal and maternal grandparents of RTSS pupils and the senior citizens of the vicinity. All the guests got a lot of gifts and also one medicinal plant. We prepared lunch for 1000 persons (for the guests, all the pupils and staff who were present).
I am happy that many former RTSS pupils recall Gandhi day with fond memories.
Some of the guests were really impressed by the way they were received with love and affection.
Gandhi Day is an opportunity to develop the "heart" of our pupils, their emotional development. Education is dry and dreary without the humane component. My staff and pupils lived up to my expectation and went beyond in making this day a memorable one in the lives of so many people - especially those people who are hungry and thirsty for love and affection. The inmates of Krishnanand Ashram were really happy just like everyone else. Gandhi Day is a day when we connect with so many - pupils connect with grandparents and come face to face with reality - that of those people who live in homes (couvent) when they are rejected and abandoned by dear ones.
Can you imagine my happiness of the RTSS when I see my staff and pupils extending a hand of help, a hand of love, a hand to serve. This is the legacy I want to leave, not only that of having produced laureates (surely for having produced laureates with great hearts). All my pupils deserve my admiration for the way they are imbued with this desire to serve. If they retain this one quality in life, I will feel that I have accomplished my mission.
Can you imagine the PTA, the teaching and non-teaching staff and the pupils coming as ONE and making the Gandhi Day the most revered day of our academic calendar. Today, we were showered with blessings - all the guests who came left the school brimming with joy and with blessings on their lips.
I thank Gandhiji - even today, his teachings and values can stir our humanism in the remotest corner of our BEING.
Don't you think that I should feel proud of MY RTSS, of my STAFF, of my KIDS and of my PTA. I am blessed to have these noble souls around me.
Service to man is service to God.
Humbly serving the RTSS and following the teachings of the Mahatma.
Celebrating Teachers’ Day. On Friday, the students of RTSS offered a pleasant surprise to the teachers and the non-teaching staff of the school. Watch the video to know about it.
The Campus Culture Society (CCS) of the University of Mauritius organized its annual Eid Gathering at the Octave Wiehe Auditorium in Reduit on the 29th of August 2013.
Miss Janally accompanied the students of Lower Six, Nadia Eatally and Amreen Emamdee, to this gathering. We left school at around 8.40 am in the bus provided by the RTSS. We reached the venue at around 10 am.
The students had the opportunity to get acquainted with university life and the way things are organized at the university. They had a memorable time participating in various activities and looking at the exhibitions. There was also a cultural program and the Honorable Rashid Beebeejaun was the chief guest. Students listened to a talk on the theme "social responsibility".
This trip to the university made the students reflect about their careers and the courses they intend to follow after their HSC. It also helped to trigger ideas about event organization which can be used at the school during future events.
Report prepared and submitted by Miss A Janally. Date: 30/08/2013.
Today will remain a great memorable day for all Tagorian educators, non-teaching staff and students. We were taken aback about how our wonderful kids have made the effort of preparing a huge surprise for us.
They showed their respect, love and gratitude by showering us with flowers, cards and an empirical cake. The cards touched our hearts as our kids have taken the trouble to write on each of them in order to convey their gratitude and sense of belonging.
As Educators, we always have our kids’ interest at heart and symbolically, we take the place of their second parents but today we felt pampered by our kids. It’s one of the most amazing feelings to see our children planning, organizing and teaming up to make our day a special Teachers’ Day.
Thank you my Terrific Tagorians for transforming this magical moment for us, turning the day nostalgic for us, for making us feel our importance in your lives and for sealing the genuine bond of respect and affection. We will always be there for all of you, love you all.
It gives me great pleasure to be jotting down these few lines for all of you. This online magazine comes at a crucial point in time when we are turning to a new mindset and we are investing ourselves in devising new ways of communication with the help of the modern technology. Instead of the traditional paper school magazine, the RTSS is now moving to this online magazine and we are sending a strong signal that we are endorsing the values and precepts of Maurice Ile Durable. Why rely on paper when we can use this online medium to share our views and present the multiple facets of our school and talent?
I would like to congratulate the Editorial Team for their dedication in making this online magazine a reality. I know I can always rely on my "kids" to do great things with abnegation and seriousness. Henceforth, we will try to exploit this "virtual medium" or "online medium" of communication which is cheaper, faster, more accessible and greener way of being in touch with one another.
The RTSS is a model in itself. In the past 11 years (we started in 2003), we have achieved a lot (4 laureates, 34 pupils ranked after the laureates). But my pride knows no bounds when I realise that my kids are brought up differently at the RTSS. A Tagorean stands out in the crowd because of his/her character and personality, because of his/her values, because of his/readiness to serve in all humility. We do not do different things at the RTSS but we do things differently (as Shiv Khera would have put it). Yes, we like to be different in our approach and the way we do things.
Today, the RTSS is one of the leading educational institutions of the island, it is perhaps lost in the sugar cane fields but it is very much visible and vibrant in the educational landscape of the country. Our pupils are fully involved in myriad curricular and extra curricular activities in order to develop their personality to their best. I am happy that each Tagorean feels a sense of "humble pride" of being a member of the big RTSS family. "You will never walk alone" if you are a Tagorean because we have forged a solid and unbreakable chain of solidarity which will resist the test of time.
I would like to share the following with you so that you can ruminate and reflect upon it.
People will forgive you for your ignorance but not for your arrogance. There is a great charm and pleasure in being humble. Let people talk about you but you should not brag about yourself. Let your deeds and actions be such that they talk for you. Arrogance (ahankar) leads to destruction. Someone rightly said that humility is a sign of greatness. Let us attempt to live a life based on simplicity and humility. Our short journey on earth, in this world is an opportunity to leave behind our good deeds, nice words, the kind gestures. After we leave this world, we can still live in the hearts and minds of so many people if we have touched their hearts and minds with our good deeds. People will never remember us for our wealth, erudition (great learning), fame, beauty, power but because of our simple acts of kindness and humanism. If we lift someone who is fallen, if we dry a drop of tear, if we say a nice thing to someone who is bereaved, if we make a positive contribution in someone's life, then we leave our prints on water and on the shore of time. If we do something, let us dedicate it to the One above and let us be His instrument at the service of mankind. People will not always treat us well, some will push us towards despair, frustration and ridicule but still, let us still strive to answer back with love and affection. Humility will always defeat arrogance. When people give you the bitterness of lemon, please just add the sugar of kindness and humility, then only will you neutralise the negativity of this world. It is not always easy to be calm and to maintain poise amidst adversity and tension but each tempest is a test of our fortitude. We spit too much of venom, we get angry too easily, there are daggers in our words, eyes and intentions and we bleed silently when we stab people mercilessly. The best way to heal ourselves and this world is to handle our ego through the therapy of humility. It is not easy but at least we can try it.
Some people will doubt your potential, still you should go ahead.
Some people will create all sorts of hurdles on your way, still you go ahead.
Some people will belittle you; still you should be unwavered in your decision.
Some people will be jealous of your achievements, still you should forge ahead with unflinching determination.
If your intentions are noble, then a silent voice will come from your inner self, telling you GO AHEAD, I AM WITH YOU, then you should not be afraid of anyone. The road with be filled with hidden traps, yet your march should not never stop. We should be guided by humility, compassion, and the desire to contribute something good in the lives of others.
Dear reader, welcome to the RTSS Online Magazine.
This is it; the rtssmag is finally out from the editorial desk. In an era where technology is shaping journalism, the editorial team of the rtssmag with the counsel of our rector, could not agree more on putting an 'e' before our magazine. We are the first school in Mauritius to have an online magazine and with the growing popularity of devices like tablets, a new experience will be delivered to our readers.
It's thrilling to embark on something new and something which is malleable. Ideas sprout and creativity has no limits. At the time we are writing our thoughts, we are unaware of the innovative ideas which can be shared to improve the magazine.
Pictures can be shared, videos can be uploaded and comments can be posted in real-time. The aim is to display the utmost talent of all fellow Tagorians in a sustainable way for today and tomorrow.
The rtssmag, an idea proposed by our rector, took birth last year with four students of Lower 6 - Arts. They nurtured it and slowly, the editorial team got bigger with even more enthusiastic students and young journalists. The journey of the rtssmag does not end here. It will be ongoing and students can still submit their articles or join the editorial team. Of course, our readers should browse it on a weekly basis if they don't want to miss the upcoming gems.
The design of the rtssmag is a minimalist one and it allows our reader to have a seamless reading experience. With a simple click, students can submit their article and the editorial team will go through it. Comments can be posted and readers can share their favorite articles on Facebook or Twitter by hovering over the colorful icons.
The rtssmag is an experience which must be appreciated. It is a celebration of the 10 years of the school and a tribute to the dedication of the teachers, rectors, non-teaching staff and students.
On these words, the editorial team of the rtssmag invites you to delve in our virtual garden of words and pictures. Happy browsing!
