Early Mornings in Delhi and Friends
By :Rudraksh N.|Pune|23rd January
Delhi: An early morning flight to the national capital turned into a heartwarming reunion and a lively night of celebration for a young traveler visiting friends in the city.
The traveler departed at dawn after sharing emotional goodbyes with family members. The farewell was especially meaningful, as the traveler’s brother—who is rarely home due to work commitments—was present to see them off.
Upon landing in Delhi, the visitor immediately noticed the city’s poor Air Quality Index (AQI), reflecting on the contrast with the cleaner air of Northeast India, where they were born and raised. Despite the smoggy conditions, the mood quickly brightened when two close friends were spotted waiting at the airport with their car.
The reunion was marked by warm hugs and excitement after a long time apart. The group then drove through the cold city streets while listening to music by Canadian artist Drake, catching up on life during the ride.
After arriving at one friend’s residence, the group rested from the early travel. Later in the day, they freshened up and headed to another friend’s home for a small get-together. Although they arrived later than planned due to unexpected stops along the way, the evening was filled with laughter, music, and new introductions.
The night concluded with a midnight food order after realizing they had skipped dinner at the gathering. The friends shared a meal while watching a Bollywood film before continuing conversations late into the night. The reunion finally came to an end at dawn, closing a day marked by friendship, nostalgia, and celebration.
MUSIC,RAIN AND OTHER CLICHES
On a cold, rainy evening, Lily was cleaning her house when she found a letter inside a drawer in her room. Her cat, Jelly, sat beside her as she opened the letter.
The letter looked old and had her name written on it. Curious, Lily opened it. The handwriting looked very similar to her mother’s, who had passed away a few years ago. It read, “Do you remember the old radio that we used to listen to all the time when you were little?” Lily felt confused. The radio had been broken for years. Just then, lightning flashed, and the radio suddenly started making a crackling sound. It began playing one of Lily’s and her mother’s favorite songs.
Lily’s heart started beating fast. She was confused about what was happening. She went closer to the radio, which was all dirty and dusty, playing without any source of power. The rain grew heavier, and the lights flickered. Even her cat looked nervous and hid behind her.
Suddenly, the radio volume increased on its own. This time, it felt like her mother was speaking softly behind the song.
Lily was overwhelmed, trying to process everything. She could not help but call out to her mother. She said, “Mom, is that you? Please don’t scare me like this. You know I don’t do well with scary stuff.”
The old radio stopped abruptly. Lily felt the aura and the aroma of the room change, as if she were with her mother all over again, spending time together on a rainy day.
As she called for her mother again, the radio started playing once more. This time, it was only her mother speaking softly to her: “I will always be with you. I’m sorry I had to go, but I know you’re a strong girl, and you’ll always make me proud.” The voice slowly vanished as the radio faded into the last song Lily and her mother had listened to together.
Lily broke down crying, still in disbelief that she got to hear her mother speak to her. She wiped her tears, got up, and started dancing to the song. She felt as if she were with her mother again, smiling and singing every word of the song. When the song ended, she took a deep breath and switched off the radio. She finally got the closure she had always wanted, as she never got to say goodbye properly. Knowing that her mother would always be within her made her feel at ease.
The room became silent. The rain slowly became lighter. Lily smiled and picked up her cat. She kept the letter safely in a drawer and cleaned the radio carefully.
From that day on, whenever it rained, she would turn on the radio to listen to the music she and her mother loved and adored.
The House of Pomegranates is a collection of fairy tales written by the Irish author, poet, and playwright Oscar Wilde. One of the fairy tales from that collection is The Star-Child. I think it is a very beautiful piece of writing, and this is how I would have written the climax of the story from my perspective. (i have attached a link to download the pdf of the story if anyone is interested reading it)
STAR-CHILD :THE CLIMAX
When the Star-Child finds the beggar woman and the leper, he kisses their feet, weeping, and asks for forgiveness for the way he treated them in the past, for which he is suffering every day. Later, they are revealed to be a King and Queen—his parents. Seeing this, the Star-Child is left utterly shocked and in awe of what is happening. He thinks that they will forgive him, recognize him as their son, and give him the throne, but that does not happen.
Instead, his parents tell him that his actions have consequences and that he must figure out what to do in order to redeem himself. The Star-Child is in denial after what he has just heard because he expected his real biological parents to accept him despite his ugly behavior and wrongdoings.
After that, the Star-Child begins treating everyone with more kindness than before, expecting nothing in return and trying to become a better version of himself. Years pass, and he lives a humble life. Then, a soldier from the King comes to tell him that he has been chosen to be the successor of his father because he has become known as a helpful and kind person throughout the village and the kingdom. This makes the Star-Child’s parents realize that he has indeed redeemed himself and is worthy of serving as King.
The Star-Child is very pleased to hear this and feels that all his yearning and remorse over the years have finally come to an end. While walking to meet the King and Queen, he comes across a person who seems very familiar. The man is visibly shaking and sweating. He looks distressed, as if something he has been waiting to say or do for a long time is finally about to happen.
When the Star-Child comes close to speak to him, the man pulls out a small knife he has been holding behind his back and stabs him in the chest, cutting his face as well. The Star-Child screams in agony, trying to process what is happening. When he asks why he is being attacked, the man replies that he is someone whom the Star-Child once tortured and harassed because he was ugly and poor and “did not deserve to live.”
After hearing this, the Star-Child realizes why the man seemed familiar. He accepts his fate of dying at the hands of someone he once said “does not deserve to live.” It is a full-circle moment for him as he slowly closes his eyes.
The Star-Child is found as a baby by two woodcutters in the forest. They take him home but he grows up to be a cruel, arrogant boy who torme
