The House of Pomegranates is a collection of fairy tales written by the Irish author, poet, and playwright Oscar Wilde. One of the fairy tales from that collection is The Star-Child. I think it is a very beautiful piece of writing, and this is how I would have written the climax of the story from my perspective. (i have attached a link to download the pdf of the story if anyone is interested reading it)

STAR-CHILD :THE CLIMAX

When the Star-Child finds the beggar woman and the leper, he kisses their feet, weeping, and asks for forgiveness for the way he treated them in the past, for which he is suffering every day. Later, they are revealed to be a King and Queen—his parents. Seeing this, the Star-Child is left utterly shocked and in awe of what is happening. He thinks that they will forgive him, recognize him as their son, and give him the throne, but that does not happen.

Instead, his parents tell him that his actions have consequences and that he must figure out what to do in order to redeem himself. The Star-Child is in denial after what he has just heard because he expected his real biological parents to accept him despite his ugly behavior and wrongdoings.

After that, the Star-Child begins treating everyone with more kindness than before, expecting nothing in return and trying to become a better version of himself. Years pass, and he lives a humble life. Then, a soldier from the King comes to tell him that he has been chosen to be the successor of his father because he has become known as a helpful and kind person throughout the village and the kingdom. This makes the Star-Child’s parents realize that he has indeed redeemed himself and is worthy of serving as King.

The Star-Child is very pleased to hear this and feels that all his yearning and remorse over the years have finally come to an end. While walking to meet the King and Queen, he comes across a person who seems very familiar. The man is visibly shaking and sweating. He looks distressed, as if something he has been waiting to say or do for a long time is finally about to happen.

When the Star-Child comes close to speak to him, the man pulls out a small knife he has been holding behind his back and stabs him in the chest, cutting his face as well. The Star-Child screams in agony, trying to process what is happening. When he asks why he is being attacked, the man replies that he is someone whom the Star-Child once tortured and harassed because he was ugly and poor and “did not deserve to live.”

After hearing this, the Star-Child realizes why the man seemed familiar. He accepts his fate of dying at the hands of someone he once said “does not deserve to live.” It is a full-circle moment for him as he slowly closes his eyes.
