Eighth and final badge!

So, I went wandering through the Winding Woods to see if I might find that Wulfric fellow along the way, since he was not available for a Gym battle.

After "wandering" getting lost for a couple of hours, I came across a little village that seemed to be secretive.  The Gym Leader was there, along with a small gathering of Pokemon.

We both returned to Snowbelle, and I worked my way through his gym.

Avan was definitely the show-stealer this time, melting the Ice types with his fire attacks.  There was a certain charm to taking out the last Gym with the same Pokemon that had been at my side through the first Gym in Kalos -- even if he had been such a cute little Fennekin back then!  Heh.

Wulfric was a strong opponent, but I was able to overcome the challenge!

I did it.

I actually obtained all eight badges... I did what I was unable to do back in Hoenn when I was younger!  This time, I did not fail!

There is only one thing left to do...  I have to take on the Pokemon League!

I am so happy right now.  I wonder if my mother will be, too...

Snowbelle City.

I traversed Routes 18 and 19, with a short stop in Couriway Town, and finally made it to Snowbelle City.

It is a pleasant little place, despite being so cold...

I was going to just go right to challenge the gym, so that I could move on quickly, but it seems that the leader went out somewhere... 

Perhaps I'll take a look around the woods that are nearby, and see if he is around to at least speak with.

Meeting and helping the Legendary Pokemon, Xerneas, was definitely an incredible opportunity.

Now if only I could get the rest of what happened at Geosenge out of my thoughts...

Seeing red.

I met up with Serena when I arrived in Geosenge and went to confront Lysandre.  She would not let me go in alone.  Honestly, I am glad for it.

She tried to argue with him about his ideals, to try and get him to see things a more reasonable way, but there was no getting through to him.

He would rather eliminate everyone else, get rid of Pokemon... just because he has no hope that there can be improvement.  That there can't really be true change for the better that will last, without doing things his way.

It was sick, it was wrong... It was twisted...

We fought our way through the building, trying to make our way to the Legendary Pokemon that he had trapped that, whose power he was siphoning to fuel the ultimate weapon. 

It took so much time battling our way there, I was so concerned that we would be too late...  However, we did manage to make it there in time...!  We were able to help free the Legendary Pokemon, Xerneas...!

Lysandre arrived again, not yet having giving up.  He just couldn't see how wrong all of it was...  Claiming to have enough power left to detonate it, he threatened us with it.  As we were leaving, he really did activate it...!

And, well... It went off.  We made it out alright, but some of the city's buildings are in ruin.

Lysandre was still inside.  I can't stop thinking about it.  Of course I can only assume that he...

I never liked him.  I always thought that he was fairly awful, well before any of this, from the very first time that I ever heard him speak and heard his thoughts about youth and beauty...

Then I found out about Team Flare, and his absolutely insane plans...

It is so easy to think that he deserves what happened; he brought it on himself.

But everyone else is just so happy that it is all over, while I just feel so ill.

Café, my ass.

To try and find Lysandre, I returned to Lumiose City and went to his little namesake cafe.  Where the staff were already on edge enough upon seeing me, to challenge me to battle... Yeah, that isn't suspicious at all.

I found what I needed to find there, as well...  An actual entrance to some secret labs.

Which were just crawling with Flare grunts... Not that they were much of a challenge, I was just concerned with time. 

Along the way, I did see Lysandre... And battled him.  When I succeeded, beating him, he praised me like a creep.  Going on about my convictions and how they pleased him...  Whatever.

At least he made it sound like I could still stop that weapon.

That, though, was apparently not true.  Someone working for him, though, tricked me... Telling me that if I pushed the right button, everything would be stopped -- he had an agenda, though, and decided to make things continue regardless of which button was touched.

Time is even more of the essence.  I have to get to Geosenge Town, where this ultimate weapon is.

Lysandre and... Team Flare?

Leaving the Anistar Gym, I saw Serena again.

As we were talking, though, our Holo Casters went off.  None other than the one face that I like to see the least... 

Lysandre.

I didn't know what sort of vain thing to expect to spill out of his mouth this time, but what he actually had to say caught Serena and I completely off guard and I am still reeling.

Team Flare is going to revive the ultimate weapon... he is a part of Team Flare?  Of course, he had to say things about beauty... about making the world beautiful again, about how if nothing changes that it will be ugly... 

How could I have not seen this before?!  I just thought that he was genuinely shallow and misguided about looks and aesthetics...!  I did not realize that it would be anything like this!  But I should have, I should have been smarter than this, damn it!

Something has to be done, I have to do something, fast.

Seven badges down!

Before going to face Olympia, I wanted to take a good look at the sundial that I kept hearing so much about.

I am glad that I did... It really was a wonder to behold, that sundial was just beautiful!  The way that the light shines off of the reflective surfaces, the way that it is cut in such a natural appearing way like some kind of gemstone, and oh my the colors...

In such a fantastic place, too, with the water just behind it... So that the light reflects off the surface of rippling waves as well.  Oh, my, I could have stayed there and stared at that sundial and the area around it all day!

I had other plans, of course, so I did leave... After meeting up with Phil the Photo Guy to get a nice little shot taken!

Now then, the Anistar Gym.  That place was also a bit of a wonder... It was rather glorious on the inside, reality seeming to fall away to be replaced with space, with stars and constellations.

I am not afraid of heights, but... Surely these paths aren't safe.

After navigating my way through them, carefully, I made it to Olympia.  Who is an interesting woman.  I suppose that should have been expected, after traversing a Gym such as this to get to her, but.  Yes.

That is an interesting way to put it.  Like I said, interesting woman.

For this battle, I actually ended up using a member of my back-up team that I had brought along for the experience... And she absolutely swept the floor with Olympia's entire team, thoroughly impressing me!  I knew that Sion, my Doublade, had a type advantage here... but I did not think that she would come out completely untouched, that the entire battle would go as smoothly as it did, with her at a similar level!

Success!  That's seven badges!

I cannot believe how close I am this time.  After my failure back in Hoenn when I was little... I really am going to do it this time.  I will not stop now, I must not give up like I did back then.

I can't disappoint my mom again.

Serena...

I had been taking some time to speak with the locals and get a feel for the culture of the area, when I decided that I should meet up with Serena in front of the Anistar Gym for the battle that she wanted with me.

She certainly has shown improvement, she managed to make three of my team members faint, which is more than she had ever pulled off in our previous battles.  I was especially surprised to see her take down Russo, my Gallade.

Kurtsza stood strong, though!  She delivered the final blow with a Crunch.

All in all, I was impressed by her performance this time.  She really had improved!  So I was disappointed when she was down on herself.

...Not with an attitude like that, probably not!

While I am sure that you do, too... I have been working really hard for this... 

...Oh, a little encouragement!  Some courtesy and kind words!

Riding a Mamoswine along Route 17...

A fellow just outside the gate here told me about how the Mamoswine had returned... When he heard about the Abomasnow being harassed in the cavern, he mentioned something about how this Mamoswine had made friends with one that had once carried it into town when it was injured.  Maybe the reason it was so upset was because it was worried about the Abomasnow that it was considering its friend...

That was such a touching thought...!

The only way to make it through this way to Anistar City is to actually ride the Mamoswine, as the snow is too deep to go on foot.  The Mamoswine was a very calm and considerate Pokemon, though, so it wasn't too bad needing to do things this way.

It made for a less interesting and engaging path than others, though.  Just needed to go at the Mamoswine's pace through the deep snow, to get from Dendemille to Anistar with no real interruptions along the way.

As soon as I finally made it out of the snow, I received a holo clip from Serena.  All that she had to say is that she challenges me to a battle in front of the Anistar City Gym.

Really?  That is it?  No hello or how are you, at least?  Okay.  I mean, I had been feeling a bit guilty about just how easily I had been beating her each time she wanted to battle me before, but, if she cannot even show a little common courtesy along the way, I suppose I would not be so bothered this time.

I still would not mind if she were to win, though... I feel like she really needs it.  It would be demeaning to just let her, however, so I will not stoop to something so low "for her sake."

Now that I am getting warm in Anistar, I shall catch some rest before taking a look around and then indulging Serena in that battle before also challenging the Gym.
