Story Idea: Two regressors who constantly play capture the flag over the entire world. Both are morally dubious and their main goal is to kill the other so that they can use earth as a playground for their remaining years.

I thought reality shows were joking about teens when I was a young child but I really am starting to hate just about everything.

Obsessing over a world where “miracles” and “spells” are fueled by just another type of energy as common as our laws of physics.

The Law of Thaumaturgy: Everything has thaumaturge, everything’s effected by Thaumaturgy.

What is the Law of Thaumaturgy?

The Law of Thaumaturgy is a rule of physics that states that everything in the world contains the energy known as “Thaumaturge”, the energy of magic. Created by the first wizard Merlin in the 1600’s.

What is Thaumaturge?

Thaumaturge is a type of energy surrounding all the supernatural elements of life that allows things like giant man eating plants and fire breathing dragons. It’s an energy that’s responsible for things like Mages and Clerics being able to preform sorceries and miracles. Thaumaturge also has its own field of energy, like electricity is to magnets, Thaumaturge is to belief. If enough people believe or wish in something hard enough then it will happen. This is what miracles are. As opposed to sorceries which are entirely individual based, and only Mages can use them.

What’s a Mage?

A Mage is a human being born with a mutation that causes their brain to be powered mainly by. Thaumaturge instead of Electricity. Because of this they can warp reality according to their whims, and their work is the most sought after by all nations. But due to this there are almost zero normal Mages, all of them are either crazy, apathetic or aloof.

What’s a Cleric?

A Cleric is a high ranking figure in a given religion that enough people believe are powerful, and so they have the power to preform miracles at will. Miracles such as generating food and water, healing incurable sicknesses, or causing plagues to wash over enemy troops.

What’s a God?

A god is a thought-based entity created by enough people believing it exists. Because they are entirely made of thaumaturge they are incredibly powerful.

What’s a monster?

A monster is an animal that contains high amounts of thaumaturge that allows them to live even though it’s physically impossible. For example, dragons by no means should be alive they would simply be too heavy and collapse under their own weight. However, because they have a high amount of thaumaturge inside of them they naturally produce an anti-gravity field around their bodies. Allowing them to grow to size unimpeded by things like weight.

What’s a Vassal?

A Vassal is a monster created by a god or a human blessed by a god to be used as an intermediary figure and leader of their church. Because beings made of pure thaumaturge can cause major disasters by simply being around.

In the, beyond post, apocalypse. There exists a small but endlessly prevalent cult. They go around towns and cities and settlements and fixes all that needs fixing. Installing hand rails and placing signs of ill omen upon those that serve poison and claim food. They worship their Goddess Osha, of health and safety.

They are not everywhere but they are easy to find. Because of their radiant visibility vestments and hard hats. Their warriors wield bright signs of warning as battle axes proclaiming “STOP” and “WARNING”.

It is said that their grand clerics are able to summon dust storms that snuff out all flame with but the pull of a trigger. And their presence are able to make the sinners act decent .

My older brother likes the songs from hazbin hotel season 2 so much that I can chart his sleep schedule. Because at 5:20 am on the dot he starts singing songs form hazbin hotel season 2.

[Murim Log - Factions - Demonic Cult]

The Demonic Cult is one of the three major factions of the Murim. They are an unorthodox faction. They exclusively take in the lost, abandoned and forgotten of the world, specifically orphans. In the Demonic Cult being a warrior of the murim is largely optional and is almost never pressured. The one given the title of the Heavenly Demonic Sovereign is the one that has defeated everyone in the tournament of death in which the current Heavenly Demonic Sovereign is free to participate in. The name of the Demonic Cult is largely seen as an ironic one as the average commoner will view them in a higher favor than the righteous sects. Although depending on who’s ruling that belief is free to change.

Notable factions who respond to the Demonic Cult are the Mystic Scholars, The Beggars Sect, The Asura Clan, and the Imoogi.

[Murim Log - Factions - Caged Scholars]

The Caged Wisdoms of the Unorthodox Mystic Scholars are a cousin faction to the Vacuous Wisdoms. They are greater in number due to their less extreme form of eternal meditation. Much as their name implies they keep their heads in giant frost or ember iron cages. Much as their name not implies they also stitch their eyes and mouth shut. In doing so they say that, although their physical mind is caged off, their thinking and dreaming mind are free to wander the realms between life and death. Once every decade the Caged Wisdoms convent to a secret and secluded chamber in which they shed their cages and stitches, and archive and document their discoveries for 24 hours. Before once more caging themselves.

[MURIM LOG - FACTIONS - THE VACUOUS WISDOMS]

THE VACUOUS WISDOMS ARE A FACTION UNDER THE UNORTHODOX MYSTIC SCHOLARS. THEY ARE NAMED AS SUCH DUE TO THEIR UNIQUE METHOD OF MEDITATION. IN WHICH THEY CUT THEIR OWN HEADS OFF AND KEEP THEM ALIVE WITH THEIR ENDLESS QI. THIS COMPLEX AND INCREDIBLY RISKY FORM OF MEDITATION IS DONE WITH EXTREME CAUTION, AS THEY HAVE TO INSURE THAT THE PSYCHIC LINK BETWEEN THEIR MERIDIANS STAYS INTACT. THIS PROCESS USUALLY TAKES SEVERAL DAYS TO MONTHS AND HAS A ONE IN A MILLION SUCCESS RATE. THIS IS WHY THERE ARE USUALLY ONLY A FEW VACUOUS WISDOMS AT A TIME. ONCE THE BODY OF A VACUOUS WISDOM DIES THEIR HEADS ARE PRESERVED AND KEPT AS EXEMPLARS FOR THE THOUSANDS OF POTENTIAL CANDIDATES. THEY ARE ALSO KNOWN AS WHISTLERS, DUE TO THE UNIQUE WHISTLING NOISES MADE AS THEIR HEADLESS THROATS UNDULATE FROM USING INNER WHISPERING TECHNIQUES.

The Humoral Theory of Medicine is an old outdated theory of medicine that believed that there are four “humors” that the body is made up of.

These Four Humors are

- Black Bile

- Yellow Bile

- Blood

- Phlegm

Plague Doctors in the olde days believed that the four humors needed balance. And when they are out of balance disease occurs.

Dread is made up of four similar powers.

- Death

- Pain

- Helplessness

- Wrongfulness

And if you squint and examine then you can theorize how each Humor and Power correlates.

Black Bile was also called Melancholic by the ancient Greeks and it meant severe depression.

Black Bile = Helplessness

Yellow Bile was called Choleric, it meant anger and irritation.

Yellow Bile = Wrongfulness

Blood was called Sanguine and it meant sensuous pleasure. This might be considered a stretch but when flipped on its head.

Blood = Pain

And

Phlegm was called Phlegmatic and it meant calm and apathetic. Much like a corpse has a calm and apathetic disposition.

Phlegm = Death

Some of these are stretches specifically the last two but I thought that it would be cool to theorize the correlation of the Four Humors to the 4 Ingredients of Dread.
