Sacred Environment is a ground-breaking new work by the Dutch-Australian composer Kate Moore and visual artist Ruben van Leer, commissioned by the Holland Festival and NTR Radio. The oratorio is being performed and sung by the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra and the Netherlands Radio Choir. The Australian singer Alex Oomens goes on a virtual reality dream-track towards the Hunter Valley in Australia, originally the territory of the Dharug, Darkinjung and Wonnarua people. The audience will follow her on a big screen in search of the stoneless temple. In this piece, the changing meaning of sacred ground in our demythologised society is being explored.
The Ballet National of Marseille and ICK launch Kindertotenlieder, a two-step performance inspired from the lyrical masterpiece five lieder by Gustav Mahler. Apparition is the first part of this creation, in which innocence and hope are exalted into a danced and sung performance. Film director Ruben van Leer got invited to create the animated stage design. A theater piece in development... (2017/2018)

SWFF BEST DOCUMENTARY SHORT FILM - The Boxer (Netherlands) by Ruben van Leer; Frank Engel is a boxer by day and a tenor singer by night. In a fight with himself, he conquers his biggest fear: to let his voice be heard in the opera to a large audience. The film is a fictionalised short drama piece, starring real-life character Frank Engel, shot during an actual opera performance in the Dutch National Opera and featuring a poem by acclaimed street-poet and voice artist Johnny Bang Reilly.
