@ruby-peterson // Charlie finished setting up the bed in the attic space that he had cleared out to make room for Sophie… and little Jocelyn. They got out of the hospital in a couple of days, for good, and he was kind of… panicking. He sort of felt like he was in the twilight zone, still, because how could this actually be happening? He wasn’t even sure if he was feeling it all or if he was simply on autopilot. He looked down as Alaska wound herself around his ankles. “Why do you keep following me up here, weirdo?” It occurred to him just how weird it was… when Sophie disappeared, Alaska had still been a kitten. He shook his head, picked her up, and carried her down before placing her on the floor and heading downstairs. Hope practically came flying at him and he swept her up into his arms and spun her round. “Careful, butterfly, you’ll fly away!” She was still laughing as he returned her to the floor and padded towards the couch, dropping down beside Ruby and hiding his face against her shoulder, groaning in a way that clearly said he was tired.
Ruby didn’t know how Charlie was managing to keep everything together at the moment. There was so much to do and to worry over, she wasn’t surprised by how exhausted he seemed. She just wished she knew what to do or how to help. Him and Sophie… but at the same time, wondered if helping might be in the form of disappearing. Ruby didn’t want to make things any weirder or harder for her than it had to be already. But as usual, she wasn’t sure what was the best thing and so.. she mainly focused on the littles. That was a job that never ran out of things to do or problems to solve. Charlie broke her out of the tunnel her thoughts had become and she smiled slightly at the familiarity of it. “Poor you..” she murmured, rubbing the back of his neck.
