meet me in the hallway, for a cup of coffee by the stairs. we're both in a hurry, let's steal a minute when there's no one there. both our hoodies red, you're in my head. yeah, there's no pressure, at least that's what we always said. i was keeping it together i guess i didn't understand, that I fell for you. i lost my cool, it hit me like a sucker punch. just one look and I'm out of touch. i'm freaking out 'cause, i'm scared this might end bad. but I still come back for that, sucker punch.

“Yes,” he immediately answered the woman, jumping up from the bar stool. Dick loved playing pool, so much so that it was the main reason he even went to the bars. Sure the drinks were good but he definitely could’ve been happy staying in and drinking a beer. But his house sadly didn’t have a pool table. “I’ll rack and you can break?” 

a laugh left ruby’s lips, “awesome!” she was just happy to have someone to play with, she’d been eyeing up the table for awhile. with none of her friends wanting to play with her, “sure, that sounds good to me” she had no idea what he meant but she was going to give it a go anyway.

“oh, you haven’t?” he looked over at her. “i thought you owned this? huh.” he turned his attention back to the screen. she seemed like the type to own all the rom-coms. he had been wrong before. “you know what sucks about movies? nothing is as simple as that.” noah looked back at ruby. “everything is tied in a big bow. nice and neat and life is…messy.” why was he thinking this seriously about a keanu reeves movie?

"nope! i just wanted to watch a film” she replies with a shrug and a laugh. she went back to watching the film for a little bit before noah spoke again, he was really thinking too much into this. “if real life was like the movies, it would be so boring. what’s wrong with a little mess. huh?” she gives him a teasing grin.

Niklaus snickered before he could stop himself. “You’re not imposing, Ruby.” she was always welcome at his place. In fact, he wished she spent more time with both him and Alaia at the same time. He loved those occasional outings they did as a family. Just him, Ruby and Alaia. It reminded him of the times when they had actually been together. Back when Alaia was still a baby. He walked over to a few chairs in the back of the studio, where a couple of other parents were sitting and watching their children. “If you’re so concerned about me getting a good night’s sleep too, then we could share the bed. It’s nothing we haven’t done before. I’ll be up early decorating for when Alaia gets up anyway so, y’know— she won’t know.” he didn’t want to confuse the child, after all. Alaia knew her parents weren’t together anymore. 

part of her wished that she didn't have to feel this way, that same part also wished that they’d never broken up in the first place. she tried to ignore those feelings, by seeing other people. but recently, that hadn’t been helping. she knew that she was always welcome at his place. and if she wasn’t so nervous, she’d be round all the time. ruby loved spending time with the two of them, they’d had so many great times as a trio in the past. “thanks” she says, giving him an awkward smile. she follows him to the chairs, unsure of how to reply to him, of course they’d shared a bed before (when they were a couple and when they weren’t....).  it wasn’t much of a big deal. “uh -- sure -- yeah. that makes more sense. it’ll be a busy day tomorrow, we both need rest” she pauses, “you’re not doing that on your own, i’ll help too. of course, don’t wanna confuse her” alaia had gotten used to her parents not being together anymore, ruby didn’t want to stress her out.

“Right. I’ll make sure I stick with one slice only.” Niklaus replied with a small smirk— even if the only mom at the school he was actually interested in was the one currently with him right now. He smiled when Alaia said it was okay for him to join in on the fort building. The blonde was happy to be spending the entire evening/morning with both of them. They were his only real family in town, after all. Niklaus didn’t really speak with his parents anymore, and his siblings were all the way back in in New York, so he didn’t see them either.

Niklaus nodded. He understood. If it was Ruby’s time with Alaia on one of her birthday’s he would have loved to be with his child as well. He momentarily let his focus move back to their daughter as the teacher called all the dancers together to begin the class, however— Ruby’s next words had his head turning back to her quickly. “You…wanna sleep on the couch?” his brow raised slightly. Had things gotten that awkward between them? He’d gone from living with this woman, and sharing a bed with her every single night to suddenly hearing her suggest she sleep on the couch in his place. “You’ll take my bed. I’ll take the couch. I’m not letting you sleep on that. Do you know how uncomfortable it is?” the blonde shook his head.

"good idea" ruby was glad that they could still joke like this, even if she was trying to deflect from the fact that she still did feel something for him. of course, she had no idea if he felt the same and she didn’t want to ruin the relationship they had already. ruby was looking forward to spending the rest of the day with both nik and alaia. they were going to have the best time, she was hoping to make the day really special for the little girl. 

the class had started, ruby’s eyes went back to watching alaia, she looked adorable in her dance uniform. “well yeah...” she mutters in reply, she wished things had never got this awkward. it was weird to think that a few years a go, they shared a bed, a house, everything and now they didn’t. “are you sure? i don’t wanna impose and you deserve to get a goodnights sleep too”  ruby replies, looking over at him. “that couch has never been comfy” she pauses for a moment, “if you really want to give up your bed, then sure. i’ll sleep in it”.

On the weekends, Nick could breathe a little. Dad’s home, Harper’s happy, the boys got to chill some, too. The youngest wasn’t anywhere close to legal and yet. Here they were, hanging out, brotherly times. They’d abandoned him to go get  drinks though, and when he turned around to look for them, there was a pretty girl. “Oh hello,” Nick said. “I’m down for that, I gotta warn ya I’m really fuckin’ good at pool.” 

she loved being a mom, and spending time with alaia but sometimes it was nice just to be ruby again (it was less stressful). tonight, she was going to be just that, ruby, with no cares in the world. she wanted to have some fun, which is why she approached the handsome stranger.  she gives him a grin, “hey” drunk ruby was so much more confident than sober ruby. “good! is that the case? i was a professional pool player in my past life, soooo...” she says with a shrug, “we shall see who is actually really fuckin’ good”

Alanza flashed the woman a bright smile. “For sure!” she said. “I haven’t played pool in forever, so you’re basically guaranteed a free drink. But why not, right? I could surprise myself.” She grinned at her again. “Do you want to, um…what’s it called? Break?”

ruby smiled back at the girl, "just what i wanted to hear". she shakes her head at alanza, “you could be a pro pool player and we have no idea. don’t put yourself down like that”. the two made their way over to the pool table, she had no idea what the girl was talking about, it was a pool thing. “sure! i can do that...”.

Ace turned around at the familiar sweet voice seemingly addressing to him and as he face the woman he smiled down at her, his eyes focusing on her face for a couple of seconds, arms crossing across his chest. “Now, do you really want to play against me, darlin’? A professional? I mean, I don’t mind, I’m gonna get a free drink.”  Ace teased her before nodding towards the table. “Let’s go. I’ll teach you a thing or two.”

of course, it was just her luck that the first person she spoke to at bootleggers, turns out to be him. now the night had just gotten interesting, ruby gives the older male a playful grin. “yeah, i really do. oh? for all you know, i could be a professional too” a giggle escapes her lips, “don’t be so sure”. she tugs him towards the pool table, “mhm. we’ll see about that”. drunk ruby liked to think she’s good at pool, but in reality, she was rubbish and he was going to get his free drink.

“Only Alaia’s birthday, got it.” Niklaus nodded, glancing at Ruby momentarily before his eyes were back on the road again. It didn’t take long for them to reach the studio. Small town just meant that everything was close by. “Can dad get in on that fort making? I’m pretty great at making them— not to brag or anything.” the blonde laughed as he pulled into an empty car space. “Of course! We all have to make one together. It has to be really big.” Alaia smiled, stretching her arms out to indicate how big the fort had to be.

After getting out of the car, Niklaus walked with both girls to the entrance of the studio and once they were actually inside, Alaia hurried over to a couple of her friends to greet them, leaving the parents with a few minutes alone. “Hey— you’re definitely okay with staying the night?” he asked. After all, those few seconds of silence that had followed their daughter’s question hadn’t gone unnoticed by the blonde. Even he realised he’d gone quiet too. 

"yep! we've gotta keep you in shape, for the other moms at school" ruby teases him, this of course went way over their daughter’s head as she was still young. “what do you think little one? shall we let dad join in?” the little girl answers, ruby can’t help but smile. “this fort already sounds awesome” the trio pull into the car park of the dance studio, with frostford being small, it didn’t take long to get to places.

they soon made their way into the dance studio, alaia running off to meet her friends. leaving both ruby and nik alone, she feels awkward, so she keeps her eyes on the little girl. just to make sure she wasn’t getting into any trouble, until nik speaks. her eyes dart back to him, “definitely. if it’s what alaia wants, she’s gonna get it. plus, i wanted to see her open her presents anyway” now she’s rambling, “i’ll just sleep on your couch or something. it’s not a big deal”. she was clearly lying, but she didn’t want to make her feelings too obvious, just yet.

ruby was at bootleggers with some friends, it was nik’s weekend with alaia and so she had a bit more freedom. she’d had a few drinks, she was now a little tipsy and she thought it would be a great idea to play pool. but none of her friends wanted to join her, so she bounces up towards a stranger. a smile on her lips, “do you wanna play some pool? winner buys the other a drink”. @frostfordstart

being at @rubywalkcr‘s house seemed to be an often occurrence for noah as of lately. who could blame him? she was cute and they had a good time whenever they were together. it was just simple fun, nothing more than that. currently, he was sitting on her couch watching a movie she had put on about thirty minutes ago. noah couldn’t recall what the title was, but didn’t care enough to ask. “so, how can these two communicate through letters via this mailbox? how does that make sense?”

ruby sits with the male on the sofa, she'd put a film on, it was cheesy but she was getting into it.. she fancied doing something different, before they ended up doing what they normally did whenever the hung out. right now ruby was enjoying the single life, she wasn’t in a rush to settle down. she just wanted simple right now. the girl shrugs, “you know i’ve not watched the film before either? i’m just as clueless, it’s magic or somethin’”.
