Okay I’ve only watched Rebels and the first two episodes of Ahsoka… did anyone else not like Sabine in Ahsoka? They just randomly threw force powers at her and took away her massive character development that she had in rebels and undid Ezra’s sacrifice to have a plot IMO.
Sabine is so multi-talented and so smart and such a beautifully written character in rebels. I simply adore her. In a way making her force sensitive ( and Leia) takes away from showing the significance non-force users can have in a galaxy far far away… Its almost metaphorical that the writers thought that the only way to make this gorgeous girl interesting was to give her power, change her character and strip her of her identity… Its like they don’t even understand the messages of the Star Wars universe.
It’s like they don’t even know who Sabine is. She’s the girl that was closed off and quick to anger. The girl who was tempted to abuse her power to torture those that hurt her, but turned away and chose good. She’s the girl that betrayed her family and came tail between her legs to Mandalore to save them and her people. She’s the girl who takes responsibility for her actions and carries the weight of the world on her shoulders. Most importantly, she is not perfect. She is not all powerful. She is not stagnant.
It feels like a way to milk rebels and advertise the story and characters to people who don’t care for the medium of animation. Maybe the other episodes are better. I do like the actors, and the effort put into the production. I just have beef with disney Execs and the writers room. Also I did not like Sabine’s long hair ( that wig pisses me off its kinda fugly and dry) they should’ve kept her short hair.
Also the incessant ass shots like it’s a porno … ugh. The writers ran with rule 34. We could have romance or sexy costumes instead but no… We’re appealing to the audience by zooming in so much to everyone’s ass that I could probably see it if someone so much as farted.
I think focusing on rebuilding and organizing new government and healing in a post empire world ( also there are still remnants of the empire to destroy even though their supreme leader is dead.) could be just as engaging plot wise with competent writers and people that are actually invested in Star Wars as a universe.
Also we know that facism re-emerges in the sequel trilogy ( which I LOATHE for a litany of reasons) so this could set up why and how that happens.
Maybe the New Republic fails to re-establish the power, and authority of the previous Republic. Maybe they themselves in their quest for stability in a MASSIVE galaxy fall into corruption. How do you establish order without being a tyrant? How does a fledgling government undo the damage of about two decades of starvation and subjugation and violence upon the galaxy? Some of Disney’s work to the Star Wars universe has been great and some of it has been absolute ass ( Martez sisters arc my beloathed).
