thoughts abt tadc! (spoilers for Soma too ig)

so my honest opinion about tadc, the ending is a little too depressing for my taste and the 'silver lining' the characters come away with at the end doesnt rlly help much. overall felt unsatisfied.

i get abstraction is meant to represent suicide and unabstraction would remove its weight, but part of me still wishes there's a way to bring them back. i feel the silver lining for being trapped in the circus should've been that they get re-dos.

(cont'd) ill personally headcanon unabstraction is possible through very extensive rehabilitation and care, and why they didn't hold a funeral for jax is because they aren't giving up on her- any of them- just yet. however, it doesn't seem like the writing wants you to think that, even if the epilogue almost made that feel plausible :(

it also doesn't sit well with me that everyone's just. okay with being stuck forever just because they get closure that their real selves are doing okay. ik everyone has thought tadc is "soma but /pos" at least once by now, but i honestly think soma's horror interpretation is way more believable. if i 'lost the coinflip' and had to live with that, yeah i think i'd be bitter and angry and probably abstract on the spot.

i also get it's implied that the reason their irl counterparts got their brains scanned is because they needed the money C&A was offering, but i feel like it shouldve been explored better in the epilogue. imo the characters couldve at least find solace in the fact that taking the C&A money helped their real counterparts get back on their feet, so their predicament isn't ENTIRELY meaningless. but no matter how you slice it, a revelation like that would've needed multiple arcs before everyone's finally on board.
