if you were to have a disagreement it would always end with a swift "you're right, 'm sorry mama must'a knocked my head huh?", unless it was about your safety, or, on this occasion-
you were searching everywhere for your wallet (which was often lost due to lack of use) when you walked into the kitchen where frank was washing the dishes.
"whatcha looking for doll? lost your glasses again?" he asked, amused by your peeking into every draw and shelf. the amusement left his face when you distractedly explained what you were looking for.
"why'd you need your card? just use mine sweetheart, we been over this"
"i know frank but these earrings are expensive, i cant let you pay that much money on a whim"
frank levelled a stare that had you stopping your search as he finished washing up the last dish and dried his hands.
"go get ready, 'm taking you to that stupid designer outlet you love and buying you all the dumb shit you want. 30 minutes enough time?"
I get SO ANNOYED now that Frank showed up in the Spider-Man movie and suddenly thousands of people became "fans" without ever watching the show or knowing anything about him. He's MY MAN. Please let him stay a niche character. 😭
little self indulgent soft frank ramble before i go to bed
frank always saw you on your laptop before bed each night but he never asked what you were up to- both so he didn't disturb your peace and because he was too invested in his current read.
one night curiosity got the better of him and he glanced over, seeing a whole bunch of pictures on her sceen.
"what's this doll?" he asked gently, scooting a bit closer.
" 's my pinterest! its basically a site where people can upload pictures and you can make little sections to keep them in for various things- sort of like for mood-boarding"
" you wanna show me any? i like seeing the things you make" he mumbled, leaning his chin on her shoulder.
she nodded eagerly and opened her profile, finding a board she had made in anticipation for their upcoming trip to her family's cabin in the woods. frank smiled against her skin. he hadn't realised she was this excited.
"this is how you see it, sweetheart? how you see me?" he asked gruffly
she chuckled and nodded "frank i was making pinterest boards of you before we were even together". his mouth dropped open in a laugh- one that meant trouble, and she squirmed as he lunged for her laptop.
Oooh hit me with an (seemingly) unrequited love Frank Castle fic please! Like she is so down bad, and he is too, but he pushes her away because he thinks his life is too dangerous. She overhears him kinda bad mouthing her to someone (Peter in BND if you’re up for it) and she decides to remove herself from the situation. Turns her phone off, ignores him, but he finds her and there’s a fight. Time passes, he gets his shit together, happy ending if you wish. Thank you!!!
thank you so much for the prompt! i wrote the second half of this half asleep so i'm sorry if it's too rushed or just a bit shit but here it is- baby's first fic!!!

anyway, don't be a stranger
it was the third time in two weeks that he had stumbled up the stairs to her apartment and gathered his remaining strength to place three heavy knocks against her door.
she had quickly accepted that there would always be a bit of blood staining her couch, and had long since stopped attempting to get it out. she wasn't mad though- that one little darkened patch meant that a piece of him was always here- meant that if one day he stopped showing up she would still have some evidence he had existed in her life. she found herself staring at it more these days, wishing she would hear those heavy knocks, wishing he would come in and stay, wishing he would let more than a bloodstain belong to her. the blood didn't bother her- blood meant he was here and she could fix him, make sure he comes back bleeding next week, but she wanted more- she wanted skin, wanted touch, wanted everything that created and made him, wanted every ugly and beautiful thought that rattled his pretty head.
and yet here he was, bleeding onto her damned couch again.
"thought you were supposed to be good at fighting, hmm? must be getting sloppy in your old age" she teased whilst her steady hands finish up the nastiest of his stitches. frank took a deep breath, trying to breathe out the pain, and the corners of his mouth curled into something resembling a smile.
"if i wasn't sliced up i wouldn't be able to come ruin your furniture… cant have you forgetting about me can i?" he grumbled out, hissing as he stretched out a little on the couch. she huffed out a laugh, fighting to keep her eyes away from the way his muscles rippled like an angry tide- one as angry as him. she hoped one day she would feel his waves crash over her and sweep her up into the current. she finished bandaging him up and gathered her things as she mumbled "you don't have to be beat up to come here frank, you're welcome any time"
he was grateful she was moving away to clean her supplies so she couldn't see the pain on his face. he was sure she would've been able to hear his heart hammering had she been any closer. he knew admitting his feelings would be putting her life at risk and he couldn't bare to endanger her like that. the pain of his injuries was the only thing that stopped him from leaning up and kissing her most times he was here… he couldn't imagine what he would do without that weight.
frank managed to sit himself up just as his phone rang. he glanced at the screen and sighed when he saw peters contact. he took a deep breath, mentally preparing himself for a million words at once and answered the call, holding the phone to his ear.
"whatcha want kid?"
"hi mr frank! im just going to the store and i was wondering if you need anything? i accidentally ate the last of your chocolate so ill get some more of that but i-"
frank ran a bloodied a hand over his face "no i don't need an-" he started but got cut off by her voice from the kitchen "would you like some coffee frank?" he called back a "yeah thanks"
but peter had already started "oooh who is that? is that your girlfriend? the one you're always looking at on your computer? she seems nice id like to meet her, you should bring her over some time!"
"what? no kid she's not- she's no one okay, she's nothin', she doesn't matter- she just patches me up sometimes 's all"
what he didn't see was her walking in with two mugs of coffee, and a lump in her throat. she had caught the end of their conversation and it had broken her, shattering a fantasy that had narrated every interaction she had had with him since they met. shattered her hope that her feelings could ever be reciprocated. but most of all it had hurt as a friend.
she wiped away the thoughts with a polite smile as he ended the call. frank took his mug and she sat as far away from him as possible, sickening doubt and a hint of betrayal making her coffee taste that little bit more bitter.
"who was that?" she asked, praying it came across as casual and he couldn't tell he had just fractured her reality.
"roommate. kids a real pest" he grumbled in response, and sipped at his coffee.
she nodded, and suddenly felt suffocated and claustrophobic in her own home. wanting to put as much space between her and frank as possible, she came up with some poor excuse that had him finishing up his coffee and heading out with a too-quick hug and half assed goodbye. the second the door shut she let out a breath she didn't know she was holding in and began picking up the pieces of herself. she powered off her phone, needing the silence, and slumped onto the couch, putting on some shitty midday drama. something caught the corner of her eye and she glanced down at that stupid blood stain on her couch before shoving a cushion over it and abandoning the living room.
week later
after a week of moping her friends insisted she went on a night out to get out of her apartment and her own head for a few hours. so she did- she dolled herself up and left her phone at home before jumping in a cab with her friends and headed to their favourite dingy bar. she drank, she danced, she tried to forget, and she went home feeling ever so slightly better (if only because of the alcohol).
stumbling up the stairs, she fumbled for her keys and let herself in. she wasn't wasted but had had enough drinks to keep a lazy smile on her lips- one that was quickly wiped away when she was suddenly looking down the barrel end of a gun- one held by the last person she wanted to see tonight.
he quickly cursed and lowered the gun, tucking it in the back of his jeans- out of her sight.
"its you- shit doll 'm sorry" he huffs in relief, then frowned noting her appearance and glassy eyes "where the hell have you been huh?"
this had been the first night she could forget about him, and yet here he was, berating and judging her as if he had some kind of claim over her. a little more sober now (mostly from the shock of having a gun pointed at her, and well… him) she bit back "'s none of your business!` and why the fuck are you in my apartment frank?!"
he straightened up at that, voice raising slightly in frustration "why am i- christ i thought you were hurt! been calling your goddamn phone all night and i show up here to your apartment empty 'n your phone on the couch!" she rubbed a hand over her face, makeup smearing a little as she kicked off her shoes and scoffed, alcohol and hurt pushing her to mean places "pfft like you even care! sorry you had to find someone else to play doctor for the night- god forbid i actually go out and do something fun for once."
frank tilted his head in that way that meant he was trying to figure something out, like a puppy shown a new trick "you're drunk."
she walked past, dropped her purse on the couch, and let her shoulder hit him as she crossed the room. she was more drunk on emotion than alcohol now. "i'm not drunk asshole, go home. i'm going to bed" she turned, heading for her room but he grabbed her shoulder before she could run from him. "what's up with you huh? one week you're all sweet 'n 'you're welcome here whenever frank' and now you're pushing me out the door. what changed?!" they were both getting frustrated now, staring at each other with so many words left unsaid, cramming the space between them. as frank stepped closer a couple words slipped free "i'm nothing, i don't matter." she mumbles.
"whatcha on about now?"
"i'm nothing. that's what you told your room mate frank. that i don't matter- i just patch you up sometimes… is that all i am to you?" frank frowns, remembering the conversation with peter from a week ago. he throws up his hands, not seeing the situation. "that's what this is all about? christ you must be drunk. i just told him that to shut him up okay?"
she was basically sober now, sober, fed up, and sick of crying. his words and misunderstanding hurt more than anything and she could hardly find the will to stand before him and have this conversation.
"so you don't mean it?" she holds his gaze, her damp eyes tired but needing an answer.
"no, of course not!" he scoffs, frustrated. "why has this got you so worked up huh?"
she was going to lose her mind- this man who had lead military operations, who could defuse a bomb in 30 seconds and learn a persons weakness in minutes couldn't figure out that the one thing driving her to the brink of insanity was him. she had spent so long falling in love with him from afar that she couldn't stand it anymore- couldn't stand not knowing if that look in his eye was love or pity. fuelled by what little liquid courage was left in her system, she let the words and tears break free from her.
"for fucks sake frank! because i love you okay! i thought you'd have figured it out by now!"
everything seemed to go still, the only sign of life being the cars outside and the silent tears rolling down her cheeks. frank didn't move, didn't even blink, just stared at her that way only he can.
"shit, i just-" she began, trying to pick up the pieces of her broken heart she had just spewed all over the floor- as if she could hide them away, pretend they'd never been revealed. she stumbled out empty words, heart hammering so hard she didn't even notice him charge across the room until her lips were pressed to his. it took her a second to realise what was happening but quickly she melted into him, into the taste of cigarette smoke and cinnamon, the taste of home.
۶ৎ frank castle is terrified of commitment. not because he does not love you, but because he truly does. frank never meant to fall for you. yet somewhere along the way, you become the very person he could never bring himself to walk away from. so whenever frank’s connection to you becomes too good to be true, he always pulls back. you certainly notice his way of denying his raw feelings for you. he turns out to be quieter than before, his stares are emotionless, and he keeps his distance away from you. though frank does everything he can to forget you, you always find your way back to him.
۶ৎ frank castle struggles to say the statements “i love you” and “i promise”. he can fight inside a room that is filled with countless armed men without a doubt. but saying those simple words to you, suddenly it’s more than a challenge. to him, that words are sacred—a vow that should not be spoken impulsively and without meaning. he had broken many promises before. so now, he is extra careful with his words, especially when it comes to you.
۶ৎ frank castle shows his utmost affection by your daily routines. if he notices your stress level increases, he will just turn on the television, switch the channel to your favorite series, and let you lay on his chest comfortably. he refuses to move even when his arm goes numb. if you do not feel like cooking, frank will not just order food online—he will throw on an apron, prepare various bowls and saucepans, and quietly follow a recipe he finds on the internet. if you are running late for work, he’ll offer to help you make your coffee—just like the way you do it everyday.
۶ৎ frank castle doesn’t believe in fancy or extravagant dates. even when you both celebrate your anniversary, he will take you out to the beach, to the park, and to fast food chains. in his beliefs, these kinds of event do not need to be romantic or intimate. he does not care about giving or receiving expensive gifts and wearing glamorous clothing, frank just wishes to spend his valuable time with you. he wants your dates with him to be real—something you two can cherish for a long time. he will let you capture timeless memories with your camera, particularly the dishes served in front of you and his wide smiles.
“delete that picture woman, i look like shit n’that.”
“what do you mean ‘delete’? you look so cute in the picture, look!”
۶ৎ frank castle isn’t the type of man who reads a book with you before bedtime—yet it slowly becomes a habit he’s grown attached to. he and you sit together against the headboard, a book rests in one hand while the other clings around you. while he reads the written words aloud, you settle on his chest. there are also instances when frank will speak the dialogues with different voices and different expressions, and his hands will sarcastically mimic the actions in the book. and most of the times, you manage to fall asleep before he finishes one chapter of the book. he’ll adjust the blanket, close the book, and place it on the nightstand. frank will stay still so that he doesn’t disturb you. and before you drift off into a deep sleep, you’ll feel a kiss on your head and his hand delicately caressing your shoulders.
۶ৎ frank castle lets you wear his dog tags from his former profession in the army. for him, it is not a sign of his identification—it is a sentiment that he could no longer protect. frank does not just casually hand them over to other people. it may be insignificant to them, but to him—it holds an unbearable amount of meaning. but there is one moment that without a doubt, he gently places the chains against your neck. the metal settles carefully against your skin, which gives frank a strange sense of intimacy. sometimes, he gets to be quite protective with it. he’ll just carefully move and adjust the plates just for you to wear them with comfort. and if it gets tangled, he will fix it without a thought. frank also notices your fingers absentmindedly fidgeting with the tags on any occasion, but pretends not to. because in his mind, his dog tags are symbols of him being a piece of you.
۶ৎ frank castle is an incredibly light sleeper. countless years in a constant state of alertness have made sleeps and naps almost completely foreign to him. a creaking on the floor, a car passing in front of the building, a dog barking down the street, and even the softest noise in the place will jolt him awake. yet the thing is, frank’s able to peacefully rest when he is with you beside him. and eventually, he starts sleeping deeper than he ever does. his head settles soundly against your chest, quietly snoring and arms hugging tightly around your waist. still, there are some parts of him that remain awake in times of possible danger—and that’s not bad at all!
۶ৎ frank castle will always leave his weapons scattered across your apartment. it is as if your place is an extension of his hideout. there are loaded guns tucked inside your closet, a knife inside the nightstand and your vanity table, a multiple sets of medical supplies in drawers, and a bunch of magazines all throughout the living room. and one room is no exception. he even sneaks a small flip knife inside your purse to keep you secured when he is not around you. frank will always tell you that he just “forgot to bring them back to his place.” but deep inside him, he purposefully leaves those weapons. despite the massive number of them around the room, he is extremely careful about keeping everything safe and secured. to anyone else, it’s reckless and excessive. but to you and to frank, it’s perfectly normal.
۶ৎ frank castle has a terrible habit of shutting down when arguments become too personal and too difficult to handle. your relationship with him is always filled with twists and turns—indeed there are moments of misunderstandings along the way. he is not the type of man who immediately raises his voice and throws away stuff around. but when situations are too tough to manage, he will just withdraw behind a deafening silence. frank’s wrath makes him more grounded and quieter. his expressions becomes much harder to read, his shoulders are tense, and his jaw tightens. frank will only leave without any words spoken.
frank isn’t capable of apologizing directly. it’s that he struggles to properly express his regrets into words. he’ll just leave the room because he knows that staying will make things worse.
frank also doesn’t always forget your arguments with him—they will continue to repeatedly haunt him for weeks. even when you both “forgive and forget”, he can spend days, hours, and minutes lying awake and staring blankly at the ceiling while regrets and fear linger around him. fear of hurting you. fear of losing you.
