Hello. I love your blog. This question has probably been asked of you before, but what are your thoughts on Paul giving the message to John (when he was in LA with May Pang) that Yoko wanted to reunite with him? This seems very odd and I can't figure out why Paul would do that. I would think he was glad J&Y weren't together anymore. I read that Yoko flew to Paul's home in London to ask him. What do you think?

The answer is actually rather straightforward to me: Paul had always cared deeply about John’s well-being. We all know how chaotic John was during the "Lost Weekend." While he was undeniably productive creatively, he was also drinking heavily and constantly making headlines for his rowdy behavior. After witnessing this downward spiral, Paul likely believed that John would be better off back with Yoko, and that she would keep him in check. Technically, John being with May Pang made it much easier for Paul to hang out and socialize with him compared to when he was with Yoko. However, in that moment, I think Paul prioritized John's health and stability over anything else. To confirm their feelings, Paul asked Yoko if she still loved John, and later asked John if he still loved Yoko; both said yes. But, as we all know, Yoko later noted that John used to say that he never understood why Paul did this.

To me, an even more intriguing question is why Yoko reached out to Paul in the first place. Accounts differ on the logistics: Paul claimed Yoko flew to England to talk to him, whereas Yoko claimed they met in New York. My theory is that Yoko anticipated how John would react once Paul tried to reunite them. She may have wanted John to be puzzled, interpreting Paul's involvement as a sign that Paul was completely fine with the relationship now and had fully moved on and "gotten over" John. I think it was that combined with Yoko's genuine belief that Paul was one of the few people John would actually listen to; the move makes total sense. John’s confusion likely stemmed from sheer bewilderment: why would Paul, who had always been so jealous of his bond with Yoko, suddenly advocate for them to be together? Deep down, John might have had mixed feelings about Paul showing no signs of possessiveness or jealousy (I'm not saying that Paul didn't feel any of this anymore; it just may have looked that way to John at that moment) and now being seemigly fine with him being with Yoko.
