“You’ll have to be some sort of bionic woman to put up with Dean for so long. As for Roxy, I've chosen to spend every day of my life with her, so I don’t think I need tell you that I disagree. All Ketamin does is make you feel drunk. I know you’re passionate about horses but please don’t try to be one. I promise you will survive these two weeks without it.”

I don’t understand why anyone would want to take a horse tranquilliser. Can’t you be satisfied with something normal? Such as —  I don’t know — beer, which has the perk of not being made for huge bloody animals.

“Those little bundles of joy running around are yours?” Maggie smiled. “They look adorable. And congratulations on the wedding; I was the photographers date, before he bailed. Your bride looks amazing.”

“They are indeed.” Rufus beamed, glancing habitually to check they were okay. “I think they had a bigger budget for their outfits than I did. Oh, Ashwin? He’s a good man. It’s a shame he couldn’t make it. But I’m sure he has good reason not to be here. Yeah. Yeah, she does.” Rufus’ proud smile was only highlighted when Maggie mentioned Roxy. “I could introduce you to her, if you’d like.”

Roxy sat silently, nervously, in the back of the car as it slowly drove through the gates of the church. She was in between Mila and Alex, her maids of honour, and in each hand she clasped onto one of theirs. When the car gradually came to a halt, she took a deep breath and got out. She hugged both of her best friends and then walked through the grand doors, her heart fluttering in her chest. But as soon as the music started playing and her eyes locked with her soon-to-be husband’s, all her nerves vanished. Her smile brightened and each step she took filled her body with excitement. She was about to become a wife, and while she was still young, she felt completely ready. She joined Rufus at the front of the church, and she reached down to take both of his hands in hers. Feeling happier than she ever had in her life, she looked up at the vicar, ready to take her vows.

Rufus didn’t look away from Roxy the entire time. Not whilst she was walking down the aisle, or as the vicar began to talk. Something budded in his chest when he saw her. An excitement so vast that he couldn’t pin an explanation to it. As he interlocked his fingers amongst hers, the church fell silent for a moment as the Vicar paused for them to take their vows. “Roxy.” He said, simply. A smile greeting his lips. “Nothing between us has happened in the usual order - or even in the right way. From the very beginning it’s been a bit of a muddle. But every single moment of it I have cherished. Throughout everything you have been my silver lining. And it’s impossible for words to do that justice. Today is the best day of my life. And I promise, Roxy Tyler, that I will do everything I can to keep you happy, to look after you, forever and ever. I ...You, Jack and Eva are my miracles. I will always be thankful that I ruined everything. So that I needed a room, which you gave...So that I met you and became your husband.” Rufus paused, staring at her with immeasurable expression. “Things happen in funny ways. And everything I have done, everything good and bad that has happened, has led me to you. To now. I truly believe that. That’s why I’m here. To love you. For every breathing moment of my existence.”

“Nah, he’s jus’ like a mini version o’ you! Ya both look gorgeous. Think Jack’s gonna be a little heartbreaker when he grows up, though.”

“You took the words right out of my mouth. Just like his father. He’s certainly going to get a taste for attention after this.”

“Jack is only taking after his Dad, and you certainly don’t have the cute advantage he has. So I’d say you’re the loser here.”

“I suppose I should invite you and Jim to dinner soon. That’s what married friends do, isn’t it? Except obviously our situation isn’t standard. In any way.”

To Have & To Hold You // Roxy & Rufus

The vein which stood amongst the centre of the church contrasted the pews which encased it - for they were humming with the excited eyes of friends and family. Yet the aisle was empty. Rufus' eyes hunted it for the image of Roxy, waiting. Waiting for the moment that would transform his existence. He would become a married man. Forever belonging to the woman he adored ferociously, forever having the title of being her husband. Eva and Jack caught Rufus' attention, who slumped in Archie's arms with an expression that begun to illustrate something of their parents. They watched with little understanding of what was going on, but their glass Aqua eyes were ingnited with joy, the simple bliss that he hoped would always guard them. They were happy. They had both Rufus and Roxy in their lives. He felt calmed. This day brought about his happy ending and he continued waiting, the pace of his heart beat steadying into a comfortable rush.

Mila raised her head from the book. “If you kill a unicorn, you will only get bad luck.”

“Ya haven’t seen a big sketchpad around here, have ya? If I lose it, tha’s like, a whole year’s worth of designs gone.”

“Ah, yes - it’s in the fridge.I know it’s a weird place, but Cosmo was looking bored and I got paranoid that he might revert back into his teething phase. And that really isn’t something you should have to deal with the week before our wedding.”

@poindexter: I have no idea how to style hair. My daughter is going to be stuck with bad hair do's for her childhood.

@RufusA_Tyler: Roxy wouldn't trust me to do anything to Eva's hair. My expertise lies in brushing and gelling. You could experiment with that?

“Umm… hey there. Excuse me? Hi. I was wondering if you could help me find the sports centre? I haven’t been here very long. Still wandering aimlessly around like a headless chicken.”

"Funnily enough, I was just headed there for a run.” Rufus replied as he gestured toward his wheelchair with a glance. “Unfortunately I’ve been stuck in Lincolnshire for long enough to know where everything is. It’d probably be easier if I just take you there... You don’t look like a headless chicken, though you might be as stupid as one if you just moved here."

Roxy raised her eyebrows quizzically as Rufus held her hand, then a smile dawned on her face. Getting hit by a car a few months earlier had really put things into perspective for her; how precious life was and she didn’t see much point in delaying either. “Really?” she asked with an excited grin. “It sounds brilliant!” Roxy reached across and kissed her fiancé. Her mind instantly began to whir with pretty wedding things, but then she thought about the cost. “How will we pay for it, though?”

Rufus felt a flow of excitement, almost as though he’d proposed all over again. He reciprocated the kiss gently, before pausing to dwell on Roxy’s concern. “Well, it doesn’t have to be extravagant. So long as I’m your husband by the end of the day, I’m happy.” His smile was light as he spoke to her. “I’ll sort it out. You don’t need to worry. What you do need to worry about is planning the decorations. Because I don’t think that’s my forte.”
