Hi Astrid fans, you may be an Astrid fan but your aren’t Astrid insane like me. And I have one thing to say to the M9 animated team:
Don’t you fucking dare include her in season one.
Astrid’s affect on the narrative is impacted entirely by the fact she isn’t in the narrative. All we really get is Caleb’s deeply unreliable narration. The ‘who is Astrid and what has become of her?’ question loomed over everything, even as we left the empire, even as we slowly got more and more information about her the question was always strong and relevant. The scourger interrogation a prime example. That’s what made the first meeting with her so special, so heartbreaking.
Yes I love her as a character, yes I want to inject her into my veins. But what makes Astrid so interesting is her absence. Her existence, though we haven’t met her, is a reminder that their are still happenings outside what the Nein have been doing. There are things they don’t know. There are still stories untold. And in this case,
Less is more.
it's amazing to see my thoughts put into words so eloquently because my thoughts were just " noo argggh aaaa fuckitup and ill kmssss "
I am slowly slowly slowly coming to terms that she's serving a different narrative device/purpose in the adaptation.
However, that being said, my bitterness runs deep.
