Is it blood that determines a king’s worth? The amount of people they slay? The monuments they erect? Or is it perhaps the amount of countries they conquer? To Gaius, none of these are the qualities necessary to become a king that people need. Is is the strength of heart, the will to carry out one’s wish, that determines the qualifications of a monarch.

In that thought process, Gaius believes in destroying the tradition of inheriting the throne by lineage. It is to be decided by the people, by how many hearts have been touched by an individual.

But there does tend to be a problem when leaders never question themselves at all, and allow for none around them who will.

“I acknowledge this to be the fault of the former king whose throne that I had stolen, as I felt it the only method that would keep casualties to a bare minimum. Hands propped on each knee, legs crossed as he sits upon the throne, Gaius does not look away from the woman, his stare powerful as ever, but not unkind.

“Rest assured, that man never holds back on what he thinks, no matter if they’re a king or a god.”

“If it pleases you, your highness.” Reclines his neck to allow a bite. “Go ahead.”

Inching towards his neck, tracing his lips across the pale skin, he feigned interest in taking a bite, before tilting the man’s chin up to steal a chaste kiss instead.

Unsurprisingly, Gaius bears no patience towards those who choose to drown in self-pity, personal angst, tantrums, or in immature behavior. If one has the energy to act like a child, that energy can easily be devoted to changing their recently or long acquired fate. There is always something that can be done, so long as one is alive. In wasting his time by complaining, Gaius only has harsh words and the raw truth to offer, in order to cause for growth, or to at the very least give the individual a reality check.

Gaius’ determination and resoluteness pulled Muzet in and she was left in awe. Part of her believed that if he willed it, the heavens themselves would open before him. “If other humans learn from your example then… Yes, you are the first step. I shall remain with you to see it through.”

It was a default quality a king should possess, but Gaius thought very little of it. After all, what mattered most was how powerful one’s own heart and determination is. Gaze locking with Muzet’s, sanguine eyes flickering, the Dawn King calmly extended a hand out to her. “Then continue to follow me, and I will carry you too on my back.”
