The Promise of a Quick Return
The young patient came to the clinic for what was supposed to be a simple, routine examination—nothing serious, as he had been told over the phone. The doctors were polite and confident, constantly assuring him that everything being done was strictly for his own good. They explained that the unusual immobilization and “temporary therapy” were necessary to help his body recover, and that he would be back home very soon.
Now he sits in a wheelchair in a sterile hospital corridor, completely immobilized in thick plaster casts and a neck brace, staring straight ahead. A nurse calmly pushes him further down the hallway, as if everything is proceeding exactly as planned. He still believes it will not last long. But in reality, this experiment is only the beginning, and he will remain within the walls of this clinic for a very long time.
