Spent forever picking outfits, adding to the set, posing and taking pictures and immediately just thought, these outfits are too good for a random post and this scenario will likely occur in the story.. nothing I make ever actually makes it to the tl because it fails at the fuzz filter…
I saw your answers in the "10 people I'd like to get to know better" from February and now I'm curious lol what are your favorite vintage bl animes? (also love fuzz and all your sims are so prettyyy)
Hii angel, thank you for asking me the question!! I'm sorry it took me so long to respond, this is truly a matter of life or death for me. First, thank you so much for the compliments!! I'm so incredibly grateful and humbled that you enjoy Fuzz, hopefully you will continue to stick with it.
Now we lock in. Here is my top three favourite VINTAGE (using this term somewhat loosely) BL/Yaoi animes
Kyo Kara Maoh (2004-2008)
Synopsis Kyou kara Maou! revolves around Yuri Shibuya, your average Japanese teenager. One day, Yuri sees a classmate being harassed by bullies. Thanks to this intervention, his friend is able to escape, but unfortunately Yuri becomes the new target of the bullies in the process and gets his head shoved into a toilet that sucks him into another world, largely resembling medieval Europe. There, he is told that he will become the next Demon King due to his black hair and black eyes, traits only possessed by the demon's royal lineage. After awakening his powers and winning a duel to prove his identity Yuri must now learn what it takes be a true Demon King.
Although not definitively under the BL genre, KKM is by far my all time favourite. It's a multiple year long obsession of mine and has stuck with me the most! The light novels more explicitly cover the relationship between Yuuri and Wolfram but essentially they're put into this arranged marriage situation that Wolfram really leans into which takes Yuuri a while to get used to but from the outset they have a lot of sweet moments! They have a really fun dynamic and end up co-parenting an adopted daughter. Kinda progressive for its time? I love it so much. Wolfram is also one of my favourite and most memorable characters and was a big part of the concept aesthetics for Ry lol.
2. Sukisho (2005)
Synopsis High-school student Sora Hashiba was hospitalized after falling from the fourth floor of his school building. On his first night back in the dormitory, he wakes to find a strange boy addressing him by the name of "Yoru". The stranger identifies himself as "Ran" and says he's Sora's new roommate. The next day, Sora's childhood friend and dorm manager, Matsuri Honjou, informs Sora that the other boy, whom Matsuri identifies as Sunao Fujimori or "Nao-kun", is actually another childhood friend of Sora. Sora doesn't remember meeting Sunao before. In fact, Sora can't remember much of anything regarding his past, and the series follows his quest to regain his memory.
This one was based off of a Visual Novel! I rewatch Sukisho at least once a year as like, an annual event. It's truly so fun and nostalgic. I feel like it really captures some of that like late 90's early 2000's tropey romance and drama whilst making full use of some pretty classic settings and themes of anime at the time. A word I use often to describe my taste is "campy" and the story and characters really fall under that descriptor of exaggerated character tropes and shenanigans. Sora and Nao are super cute and fun to watch and they have this funky cat and mouse back and forth that sort of flips back and forth throughout the story. The overall plot itself feels so fun and of the time. It may be a little clunky and might read a little funny at times but I EAT IT UP every year like clockwork. One thing i will say is I do NAWT care for the side couple lmao
3. Patalliro (1982-1983)
Synopsis Patalliro du Malyner VIII is the crown prince of the Diamond producing country of Malynera. Known for being both ugly, mischievous and with a bad personality, he is nonetheless a strong-willed prince and a good son to his father the king. Many enemies of the throne, including the Prime Minister of Malynera himself, are off to get rid of him and take control of the rich nation. Thus, Bancoran, his haughty but extremely handsome bodyguard, is off to protect the obnoxious prince, even from Bancoran's own lover, the extremely beautiful bishounen Maraihi and other bishounen assassins.
This one is truly the master of all camp. The story doesn't technically focus solely on the couple, it revolves around the lil funky white haired guy on the poster, but the visuals, trope, style, music- EVERYTHING is exactly my taste. It finds the balance between shenanigans and romance and satire. Its a really fun watch and genuinely quite stylish and nostalgic. I really love the Rose of Versailles and it really connected with me on that level when I initially watched it. I also just love Maraihi like omg. Patalliro is also one of the earliest series to have confirmed MPreg, although the nature of the work is somewhat satirical so it doesn't take itself too seriously.
Thank you for asking me this question! I had to really think hard about what i wanted to include and how i wanted to order them but i feel like this is a good top three, but I would like to mention Vassalord also. It's got an OVA, but I recommend reading the manga in its entirety. Tonally, it's quite different from the above and deserves to be taken very seriously!!
