( ◉ ) - Nearly a year after she’d started to lose her voice, and the episodes caused by her exsphere had, for the most part, settled down. It had been close to a full year since her voice started to get weaker. Some days she could hardly speak, until eventually, she couldn’t talk at all. People assumed she’d taken a nasty hit from an enemy on the road that cost her her voice. Anna knew it was related to the exsphere. She wasn’t sure how, but she just knew it.
It wasn’t easy to acquire mercenary work when she couldn’t speak to negotiate price, which was why she’d taken to carrying around a journal and notepad. She kept herself stocked on writing materials for when she needed work. Some days, when she couldn’t get any mercenary work, she would instead work at the Palmacosta Academy, helping out in the kitchen. At least there she wasn’t required to talk, and she got a free meal out of it by working hard (though she hardly ate anything anymore).
The changes had all happened so slowly, but she’d grown used to them. She no longer ate, or even slept. Her sense of touch had left her over a year ago, but her voice had gone closer to the end of that year, just before the worlds united as one. At least she’d had time to adjust to losing her voice, slowly. People had noticed she seemed different, and she couldn’t deny that she had changed.
It was more than just the physical changes, the heightened senses, the heightened physical strength. Her personality had been diminished. She could barely feel anything, including her own emotions. Anna was far from apathetic, but she was certainly more subdued than she’d ever been in the Asgard Human Ranch. She wasn’t really sure what to do anymore, her life felt like some sick joke.
Being taken to the Human Ranch, only to somehow escape and end up with a missing memory, then to have these changes occur without any warning or reason. Yet she wasn’t the type of person to think of suicide, regardless of her situation. She would persevere, even if she couldn’t feel, even if she couldn’t sleep. Even if all the hours of her remaining life were spent wondering how she ended up this way, she would not kill herself.
Anna had taken up an almost permanent residence within the Palmacosta Inn, her work provided enough coin to afford her room for a month at a time. That was the way she operated. Mercenary fees were not cheap, and she wasn’t going to lower her prices just to get more customers. Though today was not going quite as planned. One of her clients was being difficult, and she couldn’t accurately express her annoyance with him.
She had to resort to glaring, which was a far cry from what her body was physically feeling. There was just an emptiness there, and she hated it. Or, at the very least, she disliked it.
Her client ended up storming away before she could and she stared after him blankly for a moment. Curse these stupid changes, it was far from ideal. Anna let out a breath, almost a sigh, before she turned and began to head towards the Inn. Hardly paying attention as she got caught up in her thoughts, she ended up bumping into someone. For a moment, she stumbled and her hand found purchase against the broken glass window of an abandoned house.
Correcting her balance she pulled her hand away and stared at it, noting the blood dripping to the cobbled street. Well, that was even less than ideal. Frowning only slightly she pulled a glass shard from her hand. That was going to leave a scar.
She looked at the person she’d bumped into and smiled slightly, bowing her head in apology before she started to brush past them. It’s not like she could voice her apology anyway. The glimmer of blue from her exsphere was just exposed enough, but at this point she could hardly care to worry about it.
