My Colleagues-in-sentiment and Countrymen:

I was glad to receive your letter regarding the orderly and good work of my comrades-in-sentiment there. However, I have no advice except the following:

1. It is still untimely for us to separate from Spanish sovereignty, because there is no other nation that could govern us like the present government, as I had observef in the governments of other places. But, for the moment, we need only to drive away first the corrupt Spanish friars because when they are gone, we will have no more obstacle in our search for different kinds of knowledge until we reach the state of learning we so desire, likewise independence, too.

2. Regarding our being an ally of Germany, let us not enter into this. It would be harder for us to be caught between two rocks.

If you haven’t seen the trailer of Jerrold Tarog’s “Heneral Luna,” and you’re a Philippine history enthusiast, please do. It may perhaps be one of the films set in the Philippine-American War that we could be proud of. We only have a few films set in that historical period, and not that many people know of the Philippine-American War. The film is set to be released in 2015. The quality of the film is seamless, and because it’s a Jerrold Tarog film, I’m expecting a down-to-earth treatment to the historical figures. His film Sana Dati is a favorite. 

When I saw the photos of the cast of Heneral Luna on Facebook, I couldn’t help but gasp at some of the actors’ portrayal of their character. To show you what I mean, I took the photos of the cast and put it side by side with the actual photos of the historical figures they portrayed. (I hope the director won’t mind). Look, and be amazed!!!

to padres mariano gomez, jose burgos, and jacinto zamora: death by garrote is much much quicker than accepting this fate. this dark fate.

to the first expatriates in europe: you left your country with high hopes. our hearts wish to leave now too, but She needs us most.

to graciano lopez jaena: you may have fooled a lot of people with your speeches, but that’s nothing compared to how they fool us now.

to marcelo del pilar: could it be possible as well for him (or her) to give up the position for someone much worthier?
