wanted to bring a little awareness on animal media. especially these "animal core" videos on youtube – these are often contain abuse and distressed animals for sake of views and engagement. please, don't interact with them. they want your comments, likes.
same with posting animal photos – please, i literally ask you, get a minimal understanding of the species body language and/or context of an image before posting it. yes, a wolf on a couch looks funny and you may relate to it, but wild animals mustn't be in a domestic household ever. this picture of someone petting a jaguar in a cage may be a photo from abusive center.
this is a huge problem in animal centered communities and I'd like to remind that in this times – a proper research (not fucking ai one) worth a lot. get these skills and polish them.

okay, we are making this post so we can pin it to avoid any confusion.
lets make it clear,
therianthropy is an internal identity and has never included physical nonhumanity. from its origin in the 1990s through communities like alt.horror.werewolves, The Werelist, and Project Shift, therianthropy has always described a psychological or spiritual identification with a nonhuman animal. therians understand they are physically human. this is not optional or up for interpretation- it is a core part of what the word means.
Project Shift's guide (archived): "Therians are not delusional. We do not believe we are physically nonhuman."
Therian Guide: "Being a therian does not mean you believe you are physically an animal."
The Werelist FAQ: "Therians recognize they are human beings in body, even if they identify as animals in some internal sense."
claims of being physically nonhuman contradict the fundamental definition of therianthropy. they are not valid within the community and cannot be reconciled with the term. no matter how someone feels, it is not possible to be physically nonhuman and a therian at the same time. allowing that belief under the therian label misrepresents our identity and disrespects the decades of meaning built around it.
for these reasons, we do not consider "physical therians" part of the therian community, and we do not allow those beliefs in our spaces. there are so many other labels out there, and nobody is stopping anyone from coining a new one. obviously we can't stop anyone from calling themself a physical therian, but this is OUR PAGE and we do not validate that here. so respect our dni and keep out. thank you

Listen man, I wasn't even around in the 90s and I won't pretend like I know every message written in those old forums by heart, but did those individuals back then not believe themselves to be literal werewolves? Didn't our community rise from people who identified as werewolves, physically or not?
And even if I'm wrong here, which might be the case, cause like I said, I've never been that interested in those old forums, why does it matter if the definition has always included physical identities or not?
Why would you want to exclude them? It does not matter how someone experiences their identity. Give me one good reason as to why physical therians don't belong in the community, besides you saying they don't fit into the label. Cause labels can be changed.
It doesn't matter if someone is mentally ill. Saying that it does is genuinley straight up ableist.
And physical alterhumanity doesn't even have to stem from delusions, as there's many individuals who identify physically on a philosophical level.
Also tf you mean "respect our DNI"? You can't just argue about others existence within a community while forbidding them to be part of the argument.

What happened to being kind and respecting others? As prevs already pointed out, physical nonhumans have been in the community since the beginning. Physical werewolves created the community. Who are you to tell them they are not valid? Why? Because the definition "doesn't include them"? Definitions are made up. Just like words are made up. If I decided the word therian includes physical nonhumans as well, well, there you go, physical nonhumans are there. Congratulations.
A huge part of the community are physically nonhuman. We are here to stay. It doesn't matter why we exist. Whether is a delusion, a philosophy, or whatever, only we get to experience who we are. And haters will never, ever, chase us out from our own community. You are noone to tell us how to experience our identities. I'm a physical nonhuman. I have physical wings and talons and claws. I look like an owl and I don't care what others think of it. I'm me. Fuck you. You are being mean and a hater and ableist and an exclusionist.

here's how to determine whether or not something is morally wrong:
ask yourself one question; “is this thing harming anyone or anything?” if the answer is yes, it is bad. if the answer is no, it is not bad.

It's weird to me when nonhumans post images or gifs with a caption like "wolves playing in grass!!!" and it's two huskies, when they claim to be a wolf themself. I feel like you should be able to recognize when a canid isn't a wolf if you are one. Same applies to mistaking other species, such as being a jaguar and going "This jaguar is me!!!" then posting a pic of a leopard.
It baffles me that many therians just... don't put in the legwork to research their type? Haven't even looked at the Wikipedia page for it? They just go off vibes... and assume from there that means they intrinsically know everything there is to know about that type.
My friend, have you considered that the lapses in your identity and the doubt you have surrounding your type is caused by you jumping to a label and deciding to examine it later? It's tempting to jump the gun and get all the questioning over with, but research is essential to further understanding yourself and your kin.
There's no shame in questioning a type. There's no shame in reconsidering a type and deciding to drop that label because it doesn't fit you. You aren't missing out on anything by avoiding labels until you're sure you identify with them. Its not doing you any favors to just go off vibes only to have it bite you later when you're trying to figure out why your identity doesn't feel yours.

Everytime I see a minor (I'm talking specifically like 8-16) wearing a mask and tails I can't help but "not" take them seriously. My first thought Is always "yeah you're a tiktok therian aren't you" now yeah I know not all tiktok therians are bad, but a lot of them are misinformed minors. I can't help but to see myself distance from them because I know that they're the ones thinking therians are just "past lives" or "masks and tails". I won't say anything because of course they're just kids having fun, but for you to think you're the same as me is absurd. I don't want minors to think that I'm apart of their game when I'm just trying to find others with a similar identity.
