He rolled his eyes, as the words the other spoke swirled in his brain. Rusty let out a sigh. For once he had nothing more to say. "I really don't care for you at all. I don't know why you'd assume I care." Rusty told him being the tough guy he tried to be. As they got outside the cool air felt nice on his skin. He was so hot from sitting inside the warm house. While Bradley was on the phone he took out his own checking for any texts. It was a relief to find the sitter wasn't looking for him. Tonight, was his night to watch Parker but opted on going to the party with friends. "Stop using the word daddy." He yelled. This gave Rusty no time to agree to the race. Bradley just took off and he followed close behind.
He sighed as he raked his fingers through his slicked back hair. "Well, I was needed to be a waiter. So here I am."
In the past Rusty had tried applying for jobs in other kitchen. And to that people weren't looking for a guy from the ghetto with no high school diploma or college degree. It made no sense all that countered the years of experience he had in the kitchen. "Nobody wants to take a chance on my skills." He sighed, as he rubbed his temples. Rusty flashed her a small smile, "I've been here long enough." It was eight years to be exact. To Rusty, it made sense why he cared so much. He'd been there long enough and didn't want it to fail. If he went further away from the diner he'd have to think about it. He couldn't accept a job anywhere unless it would benefit Parker in someway. "I'd have to think about it."
Rusty smirked. “Whenever you are ready, dude.” Mentally he kicked himself for sounding so easy. He bit his lip, “We’d think of some sort of payment plan.” One thing was for sure many of his costumers who came into the diner could barely pay for their meals. So when the ginger said he couldn’t afford anything it was nothing new. “Me? Why’d you come in for that?” He give him a skeptical look. Rusty laughed and shook his head as that’s what anyone would give the male if he came here. His fingers brushed against Spencer’s. A soft blush fell on his cheeks. “Taking me some place good?” Rusty removed his apron ready to go on an adventure.
Rusty nodded his head, because that he understood. His eyebrows furrowed as Bradley tried explaining how he was the daddy. “Not at all. But even if I knew what it meant, you aren’t a daddy.” He declared, shaking his head. Rusty played with the beer bottle in his hands before placing it on the floor next to the one Bradley just dropped. Since he had just arrived at the party a little bit ago, he wasn’t feeling anything. Not even a little buzz. “Are you trying to impress me with a car, so you can get me to say those words?” He joked, with a grin. Rusty couldn’t even afford a car at the moment, as it was high on his list of things to get. Right as they were about to leave, he felt Bradley’s hand slap his ass. His blue orbs narrowed at the other. “I’m going to fucking kill you for that.” Rusty had no clue if he was talking to the person on the line or him.
Natalia was much better than he was when it came to trying the food. After he saw her do it he popped it into his mouth. For a pancake it wasn’t horrible but it wasn’t good. Rusty couldn’t find himself going in for another bite, so he placed his dirty fork on the counter. “That’s all that is required to work here.” Rusty could never afford culinary school so he was going off his years of experience. He watched as she continued to eat the pancake and bit his lip. “Even if I had the money, I’d do something smart with it. I wouldn’t invest in this dump.” He nodded at her comment. The decor hasn't changed since he was a kid. Even with manager changes they just kept it the same. At the time, looked nice. Now the diner had a very dated look. “For some reason, I seem to give a shit about this place. So yeah, things would change.” He replied as he shook his head. Rusty flipped her off for her joke. “I can’t work far away from the apartment. You know that. What if Parker needs me?”
It bothered Rusty so much he couldn’t help Marnie at all. He knew that he was the one to take over when Parker had a full diaper, at that given moment in time he couldn’t do it. Rusty did feel bad about the situation, but wasn’t going to dwell. He busted through the kitchen door, glaring at any of the chefs who were telling him he needed to be the waiter. His glare was stone cold and anyone who tried telling him otherwise stopped. Rusty rummaged through the kitchen looking for the freshest of ingredients. Eventually, he managed to find pancake batter, eggs, and bacon. For anyone he wouldn’t have gone though such lengths to cook, but Parker was a whole different story. A short while passes by and Rusty came out with two plates of food. Mickey mouse pancakes, with a side order of scrambled eggs and then a plate of food for Marnie, which was scrambled eggs and bacon. He slide into the booth sitting across from the mother and son. “Did you come here for free food?” He asked skeptically.
Rusty didn’t have the ability to stay annoyed long enough at Bradley. Ever since they were little they would swear each other off. It was something they just did. His eyes went wide as Bradley spoke. “Big daddy my ass. You aren’t even a daddy.” Rusty laughed. He didn’t answer the other for a few moments. His smarter judgement was telling him he shouldn’t get in a car with Bradley, when he didn’t know how much he drank. But the other part of him gave no shits. “I’m so honored my smarts is just okay company. You should be grateful I’m even going with you.” After Bradley took a swig he took the last of them from the bottle. Rusty hated himself every time Bradley was looking for a fuck, he was right there desperate, and begging him to do it. As always the other was making him utter the words he could never say. “I’m not saying those words.”
“Yeah, I know.” If Rusty wasn’t so close with Stella things might have been a lot different. He wasn’t much of a people person, so his attitude towards other people might have rubbed then the wrong way. Behind the counter he grabbed milk and sugar. “Let me know if you want anything else with that.” He told her. “Don’t worry, I’d find a way to take you down with me.”
Rusty ordered such a simple thing for Natalia to get, a chocolate chip pancake. But even he was nervous since it didn’t exactly look like one. Grabbing a fork from behind the counter he cut into the small piece of pancake. Rusty had a habit of smelling food that looked funny to him, because if it smelled bad he wouldn’t eat it. To his surprise it didn’t smell as bad as the food looked.“Am I supposed to be the brave one and try it first?” He asked arching his eyebrow. “I’m hoping this isn’t so bad.” When he was younger Rusty always wanted to cook for the diner. It was one of the few places he was able to afford to go with his younger siblings. At the time it was run by someone who really made an effort to make the diner something special. Since then that owner passed and a new one took charge. As years passed by the style in management slowly worsened. Rusty worried when his boss would close the restaurant down, he needed the job. Money was everything to him. A sigh escaped his lips as he played with the food on his fork. “I don’t know? I don’t have the money at all. I can’t throw all my eggs in this basket. This place has years of debt I cannot afford. Plus, this place needs an upgrade. Even if you helped it wouldn’t do much.” Rusty shook his head. “I don’t have it.”
Parenting had come very natural to Rusty. It was so easy for him to pick up the child and shower him with affection. While he watched Marnie and could see her struggling. He witnessed this first hand during her pregnancy. If he wasn’t around to keep a close eye on Marnie who knows what would have happened to Parker. That was something he didn’t want to think about. The child wriggled in his arms as the menu was out on display in front of him. When Parker let out such elated squeals he couldn’t help but grin even more. Despite just arriving at work, he would take a break to enjoy a family meal. “Yeah, I’ll take the order to the back and make it. Just hang tight.” Right before he handed Parker over to the other he made a repulsed face. He raised the tot in the air sniffing his butt. “You might want to change him. I think he just pooped.” Rusty hated giving Parker back to his mom with a BM, he just couldn’t change him when he was on the clock.
He rolled his eyes and shook his head. It was taking long and his fuse was only getting shorter.“Then I’ll give it to you slow and steady.” Rusty smirked at the ginger, as their gazes met. Rusty wasn’t blind to him flirting, he just didn’t know how exactly to do that. Before he spoke, he bit his lip. “Nothing other than coffee. If I’m not cooking I wouldn’t trust it.” He glanced back in the kitchen and made a disgusted face. “They don’t know what the fuck they are doing back there. I can throw in some pie, it’s not fresh, but it’s the lest I can serve with a coffee.”
His attitude quickly changed when he saw it was Marnie and their beautiful baby boy. It was hard to not give a shit when the two year old was around, because he cared so much for the young one. All Rusty wanted to be was the father he never had. With that came responsibility, and he quickly adjusted to that lifestyle. “I’m impressed with you, Mar. He’s adorable when he smiles.” It warmed his heart to see Marnie sitting with their son. He knew how she got when it came to being a mother, and this was one of those rare moments. Rusty was going to take it in before Marnie was over it, and the baby would be his responsibility. The chef hoped that after they ate the child wouldn’t be in his care. He was working and would not be able to have someone cover for him. “Get whatever you want, it’s on me.” Rusty couldn’t bare standing behind the bar and not give his son a kiss. He walked around and held him in his arms, softly kissing his cheek.
“Can you just shut the fuck up already? You just don’t stop the talking.” He rolled his eyes, actually getting annoyed with the other. “Why do I keep coming back to you when you refer to me as your princess. I’m insulted.” Bradley knew what to say to get some sort of emotion out of him, like always it worked. “Then sober up and go drive?” He suggested. Rusty took the beer and took a nice long swig. “You want me drunk so you can take me off to a room and you can have your way with me.” He scooted closer to Bradley and growled in his ear, “You know you can always those words and we can move this party some place private.”
