Which of your PMD teams are your favorite?
That is a really good question, actually! Ysee the thing is I like them all a lot and its hard to pick a favorite.
Team Beachball with Camellia and Destin is the most standard pmd team. Two best friends versus the world, nothing much more, nothing much less. The friendship between the two is really fun to portray, plus I really feel like sandshrew and popplio are underrepresented in pmd. They're just really fun overall.
DraGun with Addy and Beatrix is just a fun idea, making pmd urban fantasy. I also like how they are opposite extremes, Addy's blind hopelessness and Beatrix's blind naivety both balancing each other out, helping each other see the reality that not everything is at its best, but that doesn't mean we should give up. Also, the yuri!!! Addy learning to fall in love with the world through falling in love with Beatrix, Beatrix learning to see reality through seeing all of Addy. It's very wholesome. And I love them.
Even though I have cancelled the comic about Team Masquerade with Rivers, Aspen, and Silver, I still think they are really fun! Found family is something really important, and I think the stories of these three who can't face their biological families and who consider each other family is wholesome as hell. I love Aspen and Silver serving as foils to each other, the impoverished outlaw finding unconditional support and the rich abuse victim finding unconditional love. The thing that makes it really hard is that I don't know where Rivers would fit into it. That's why I felt so much doubt. She fits, as a misfit from another world, but I had no idea how to work and develop her character. I do like how she works with Aspen in the new comic idea. Almost a neo Team Masquerade if you will. Again, it keeps the elements of found family, and how Aspen's backstory is able to keep showing his parents as not exactly black nor white, and how their dynamic also involves solidarity between predator and prey, too. They are still very fun!
And Team Fairytale with Sonia and Alyx. The ones I'm making my comic about now. The way that they are foils of each other, Sonia being reckless but determined while Alyx is a little too safe, Sonia's selfishness stemming from selflessness while Alyx's selflessness stems from their selfishness. They're about grieving a past you can't return to, and moving on to a present where you can be free to be yourself. And again, found family. They are so different yet they would give anything for each other. Their setting is nice too, I think post-apocalypse fits pmd very well and im surprised I don't seem to see it very often. Very fun, and with species you don't see all too much either!
Overall, while I think Fairytale is more narratively compelling, Masquerade still holds a special place in my heart and I think they are still my favorite.
