“i’m not… bothering you or anything, am i?” taiga asked after bowing deeply. he looked up to noah a lot, as well as the rest of juno naturally. and while the two groups had gotten closer ever since daybreak debuted and spotlight put them together at various points for promotional purposes, taiga still couldn’t help but feel weird just talking to noah. “i’m allowed to ask you questions, right? i know there’s no cameras or anything around right now, so if i’m being annoying, i can leave…” @rvnoah​

noah looked over when he heard taiga walk into the recording studio he was in, telling himself not to laugh at how seriously the younger boy bowed to greet him. “it’s fine, i promise i’m not wearing a wire or anything,” the smile was obvious in his voice as he gestured towards the multiple empty seats beside him. he knew that taiga was probably just nervous around him from being his senior, but it was still almost strange to noah to see him be so unsure if he could even come up and start a conversation with him. “yeah man, you can always ask me questions. c’mon, what’s up?”

“no– i don’t want to talk to you,” chunja whined, rolling her head back. she’d been sent along to help rejectz with some errands while they performed on m!countdown, and sure enough, juno was performing too. “i can’t believe you baited me like that. i’m still mad. if we would have played that round together, i totally wouldn’t have deranked…” @rvnoah​

“play stupid games win stupid prizes, dude,” noah laughed. he probably wasn’t using the phrase right but it wasn’t like he cared when he was too busy thinking it was funny that chunja blamed him for how fast she had died in the last game they played. “you’re the one who said i was taking too long to keep up with you when we were playing together,” he gestured around the m!countdown waiting room, “and now look where you are, crawling back to ask if we can team up again.”

“i’m bored,” seola announced, putting her feet up on the desk and leaning back in her chair. “i want to do something. something regular. like walk beside a river or go to a café or something stupid like that. come do something regular with me.” @rvnoah​ @rvxjei​ @rvsuri​

noah groaned and started to peel himself off of seola’s bed, though it was from still not having gotten up rather than being against her idea. maybe staying up most of the night for no good reason and sleeping in most of the day wasn’t the best plan  ––  and besides, he liked the idea of actually going out and doing something with seola. “we could do both, grab something to eat or from a coffee shop and then go to the river,” he said as he got up, already beginning to sound more energetic, “just let me change really quick and we can go.”

“is it alright if we took a little break?” nathan asked with a sigh. he hated to ask it. he prided himself on being able to do good work no matter the circumstances. but honestly, he was exhausted. “i’m running into a lot of block, and i think i just need to sleep for like…a week. and spend time with my family. not like a long hiatus or anything but just… a vacation.” @rvjaebin​ @rvminhyuk​ @rvnoah​

“damn, first joon and now this?” noah laughed, though he was trying more to make the conversation more lighthearted than outright making a joke out of nathan’s ask. noah was willing to go on hiatus for that dude’s sake alone, it felt to noah like nathan hadn’t slept since they debuted, and even that might not be too much of an exaggeration. he shrugged, “don’t worry about it dude, we haven’t really taken a break since we were trainees. besides, i could catch up on verses i’d said i write for features anyway.” he paused, trying to be reassuring. he knew nathan wouldn’t have brought it up if he hadn’t already been seriously thinking about it, and noah didn’t want to tell his friend that he looked exhausted. “take break, get some sleep for once, man. hang out with your baby brother. juno’ll be okay.”

“i think maybe we should reshuffle the dorm arrangements,” joonie admitted. “like, i know we’re all used to the rooms we’re in, and like who we room with and all that, but let’s be real– we have one room in this dorm where all three occupants aren’t even sleeping there half the time. we probably should spread that out, so that the members who actually do sleep here have more room…” @rvnoah​ @rvxnathan​ @rvjaebin​ @rvminhyuk

noah leaned up on his elbows from where he was laying back on juno’s couch, raising his eyebrows in mostly-feigned shock. “are nathan and i not good enough for you now?” the usual laughter in his voice cut through any seriousness that noah could’ve given off. the few days he had said it’d be since the last time he had slept in his own bed in their shared triple had grown into almost two weeks now. if he hadn’t clouded his own memory already, he was pretty sure joonie hadn’t been there that night anyway. “you don’t want me as your joonmate anymore?”

“you know, it’s nice being not-famous here yet,” zak admitted. “i know that’s gonna change when my group debuts, but i couldn’t walk anywhere in LA without getting someone pointing at me. it’s cool to be normal for a few months.”

noah looked over at zak, the complete lack of knowledge of child stars he was exposed to before his mom drop kicked him to korea years ago showing through. regardless, he knew he should least try to not come off as thick-headed, and still failed at that too. “... am i supposed to know who you are back in the states?”

xifeng.

“how long do i need to be an idol for before i can get a full sleeve tattoo,” xifeng mused aloud. “like, i don’t even know if i want one yet. but i just want to know…”

“sleeves aren’t even that crazy anymore, though. be the first idol with a face tattoo.”

joonie.

“i mean…you’re partially right i guess. that’s probably part of it. but to me…the appeal of an idol group vs any other group is the performance element of it all. there’s singing, there’s rapping, there’s dancing, there’s incredible visual elements. a good dancer shouldn’t need to hold a chorus if they don’t have to, you know?” joonie sighed deeply. “runaway was really good, don’t get me wrong. i like the song. i just would like it better if i didn’t have rap lines. you’re right– why do we need to pretend like daeyeon isn’t gone when he so obviously is and isn’t coming back?”

“dancers should be in the center or whatever during the choruses but they shouldn’t have to also carry the actual song while that’s happening, i don’t get why some companies are so set on making people that aren’t rappers try to come off as rap gods or something,” noah knew joonie was right, he just didn’t know what else he should say, “like, you’re good dude, but i don’t know why spotlight wants to waste you as a vocalist. they know you’re good at singing so it’s just stupid for them to do.” he paused and glanced back over at joonie, laughing a little at his last comment, “runaway was good but it feels like a song for vocalists, dude, nathan and i spent way too long just making sure my part didn’t feel like it was interrupting the rest of the song.”

“i mean, i was thinking more a superkick, but that one’s fun too,” lance laughed. “that’s the thing about wrestling, man. the victim does all the work– i can teach you how to suplex me– i’m the one who does all the flailing and selling. all you need to do is look like you know what you’re doing.”

“i dunno what that means, but if you want me to be your sidekick that’s chill,” noah laughed. he shrugged, “it’s cool dude, i’d be down for you to show me but, like, aren’t i kinda too lanky? you’re gonna look like you’re throwing one of those blow up dudes outside of car dealerships over your shoulder.”

“if you put that out into the universe and it actually ends up happening, i’m going to kick your ass, noah.”

“bet.” noah kept bugging her, “they’re gonna bedazzle it. you’re gonna have to perform on stage with it and it’ll be so blinding no one will be able to see you.”

seola.

“a suspect. but who could suspect lil ol me for long? im like 5′2 and built like a twig. i couldn’t hurt a fly,” she answered him innocently, rolling her eyes. seola was acutely aware of how she felt about noah, but also fairly aware of how that could mess everything up– she was content with compartmentalizing her feelings and just letting things continue how they were. “oh, i know. and i’ve made sure my manager’s spoken to someone about it, so we’ll see if it happens again but….i know these music shows. they want to stir up this shit way too much.”

“yeah right, if you’re a twig than what am i?” noah let out a laugh before seola putting herself down so casually could even register to him. her words sounded a little funny to him with his hand barely a couple inches from her ass, but it wasn’t like that was uncommon for them at all at this point. noah didn’t know how exactly to describe how the felt about seola, but even though he knew he was a little biased, he had no idea that seola didn’t see herself the same way he saw her. “still, it’s stupid,” he brushed off his earlier confusion, bending over slightly so he could rest the side of his head on top of hers. “i don’t get why people are so obsessed with when people leave groups, it’s like they care more once people leave than when everyone was in the group anyway. why can’t they just talk to you as you?”

“i don’t know, i bet i could be a passable rapper,” jaebin announced, holding his hands up in surrender. “river’s old lines could just have gone to me! i need more lines anyway. and then no one would get mad about our vocalists getting way too many lines anymore!” // @rvnate​ @rvjoonie​ @rvnoah​

noah almost felt bad when he listened to jaebin’s idea – he never had to worry about lines, and definitely never had to worry about if he should try to be a rapper. or maybe he was just an asshole for worrying that maybe he wasn’t the best person to be on a song next to if the younger member thought he might only be passable at rapping. still, noah nodded, “yeah sure dude,” he replied earnestly, “it doesn’t really seem like spotlight has solid ideas for what to do with his parts anyway, if you want to try them out, why shouldn’t we?”

joonie.

“well, that’s nice of you to say,” joonie laughed. “but i dunno. the whole structure of idol groups is to feature the best talents of each member. that’s why, say, pansy doesn’t get a ton of lines, but still works in the group– her job is dancing, and she’s a great dancer. i’m a really good vocalist– i don’t see why the choice was made to turn me into a rapper, besides me being one of the more popular members on some metric. or maybe i look alternative and spotlight decided that’s all it takes. i don’t know. it just doesn’t sit right with me– especially since there are other members who could use the lines more.”

noah shrugged a little as his friend spoke, “that’s a nicer way to put it, sometimes i figure they put rappers in groups just to give dancers something to do or to stop a herd of idols from sounding like a choir’s youth group,” he laughed. noah knew that joonie had a point though, and he always was up front about how if he sounded like joonie singing, he’d never shut up. “dude, i don’t get it. writing rap lyrics are different than writing, like, vocal parts anyway, when a rap part in a pop song sticks out it in a weird way it could ruin the whole song, honestly.” he felt kinda bad thinking that spotlight should just let him take up more time on a song if they needed more rap parts for juno that badly when there were vocalists who needed more lines, but he didn’t understand what the big deal was. “daeyeon’s great but he’s not in the group anymore, why do we need to figure out how to make it sound like he’s still here?”

“okay, are you sure you want me to teach you how to do this? cuz i can, but i don’t want you to hurt yourself,” lance replied. of course he was down to show noah how to do one of his finishers, but it was noah. the potential for chaos was huge. // @rvnoah·

“uhhh...,” noah paused, it finally clicking that when he kept insisting do that on me or nah it’s not that hard, i could do that to annoy lance whenever his friend did some crazy wrestling move, it made it seem like he actually wanted to try wrestling. “i mean, you can try suplexing me but i think i’d be the one who managed to snap my spine.”

“god, don’t remind me. we’ve been working on upcoming songs and….. well, let’s just say, if i don’t end up with a separated shoulder after a months worth of promotions, i’ll be lucky.”

“nah, your stylists would prob make you keep going with a sling and say it’s part of your outfit.”

“well… i mean…. it sure is now,” hyosang snorted. “brichard. should he have another name too to make it fancier? sir brichard shin the third….”

“wouldn’t there have to be two other bricks though if he was brichard shin the third?” noah laughed, “lord brichard, first of his name.”

seola.

“i wouldn’t be so sure. spotlight’s made itself plenty of enemies at this point,” seola said with a snort, rolling her eyes and curling a little more into noah. the only think keeping her from really tearing the company down was him. whether she wanted to admit it or not, she cared about him, and she didn’t ever want to do something that could trickle down and affect his career. “i’ve been trying. or been trying to stand near rewind, since i guess they’re my labelmates…but at inkigayo last week, the stage assistant fucking took me by the wrist and moved me next to sara, so that’s clearly going great,” she scoffed.

“okay fine, you’d be a suspect then,” noah corrected himself, laughing as he changed what he said to go along with seola. it wasn’t as though he didn’t notice that she moved to be even closer to him, but his brain was always so much on autopilot whenever he was around her that his free hand instinctively to move back up seola’s side to rest there without him thinking anything of that either. ever since they had first crossed the line of what being friends meant, just being so touchy with seola had already added itself to the long list of noah’s habits. he sighed, “that’s fucking bullshit, dude.” he felt part of himself get annoyed along with her that show runners were clearly trying to play into seola having left juliette, “don’t they have anything better to set up to record? isn’t there always some rookie crying that they can zoom in too close on?”
