Will paused for a second, considering Hannah’s confession. His initial instinct was to protect her at all costs and volunteer to go into the basement alone so that she wouldn’t have to think about anything sad. But he knew Hannah better than that. Hannah was very brave. It was one of the things he admired about her. So they would go into the basement together. He would be there to support her in any way she might need though. “If there’s any boogeymen down there I’ll scare them off,” he promised. He knew that it wasn’t boogeymen lurking down there but painful memories of people who were no longer there. “Not that you need it. You can definitely kick butts yourself cause you’re awesome like that. I wouldn’t blame you if you don’t want to go down there though, too many spiders. I’m not a big fan of them myself.” He was giving her the opportunity to back out if she needed to, if it was too painful. “With you at my side though, I think I might be able to handle it.” He was reminding her that as long as they had each other, they could face anything together. All the while he was being silly and attempting to keep the tone light and playful, while he knew the true meaning behind his words would be understood because Hannah was not just brave but also very smart. Will reached for her, giving her hand a comforting and gentle squeeze with his own.
Hannah found Will adorable, he wasn’t like the guys she used to date before she became a wolf but that was because she sought out the bad guys. She wanted to rebel and do things she wasn’t supposed to do and bad guys were good at that stuff. Today she finds it very silly, she was so stupid back then and Will was different, a nice kind of different. Hannah could understand what he was trying to do, the basement was filled with memories, filled with stuff from people that were no longer or people that were wolves at the current moment. Sure it hurt sometimes seeing their stuff but there were a lot of things that were painful. Like the way she left things with her birth family. She hadn’t seen them since she was 16, even if they hadn’t seen her for who she was she missed them but she had accepted her fate. Hannah had learned to live with the pain, so yes going down to the basement could end up being painful but Hannah would do it because she was used to being hurt. The female looked over at Will and smiled squeezing his hand gently back “We will face the boogeymen and the spiders together.” she replied appreciating the offer of getting out of going downstairs. Holding his hand she led the two of them to the door of the basement, opened the door and turned on the light and then walked down.
